My 2 cents on a couple of those sticks.

The Saitek x45 may look kinda cool but it feels very awkward to handle and almost too toy like in it's action.  Also if you can find enough deskspace for it, god bless you.

I personally use the Saitek Cyborg 3D gold, and I can tell you it is a very nice stick.  It can be converted easily to left or right handed, and is very smooth and responsive.  Has a fairly simple throttle bar which gets the job done well.  I have no idea how SOE plans on utilizing programmable joysticks but this stick probably has plenty of buttons for anything the JTLS will throw at us.

Friend of mine bought a Saitek Evo, and i must say, yes it has lots of adjustments and looks kinda cool, but using it is very average.

i'm not sure the exact length limitations on USB and what happens when you get past them), I think they usually cost around $10 or $15 US.

ok..
i went with the saitek evo wireless
goddamn since its installation (usbdriver)it f´d up my firewall, which i cant reinstall since..also the stick never worked...damn it felt really nice

and the usb issue.. i asked my tech guy in work and he stated usb specs are limited to bout 5m, but u can extend it with a usb->cat5 adapter and back
the x-series ...hmm dunno bout hotas...need a hand for the keyboard aswell...
thx anyways...

JungleKing, I bought one the other week and it's still not compatible. There is a thread in the tech support forum about it. I was just checking this thread to see if the readers of this thread were aware of the issue, because I found the X52 because of this thread.

Where to buy? I'm in the UK and got mine from gamecase (.co.uk) it was £25 less than retail.
Not sure about the US or wherever else, but a search on google or price check websites should come back with some results.

I'd just like to point out that even though it's incompatible with JTL (at this point in time), it's an amazing joystick and works excellent with all my other flight sims.

ive been a hardcore desert combat fighter pilot for a long time, and i burned through 4 logitechs before i got my saitek cyborg.  the logitechs do have a great feel to them, but they wear out fast and will lose accuracy.  the saitek has lasted me three times as long as any logitech has, but its starting to spike on the z-axis now too, so i might need a new one soon.

if you are going for a logitech, buy it from a store that offers an extended warrenty and make them honor it when you wear it out a month down the road.

I just bought a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force , it is awesome. The 3D rudder makes turning very quick and it has amazing force feedback and resistance. Gets a bit tricky to aim ion cannons with the amount of recoil you get but for me it makes it much more immersive. Try testing the forces out in the calibration menu, you can feel chainsaws, miniguns and even a lightsaber, wow that really rocked.

I have an old school Saitek X36 throttle and stick. Do these currently work with JTL? The X36 is basically like the new X series when joysticks werent requitred to have dorky colors and stickers on them. I have used the X36 in everything from Mechwarrior series to Freespace 2 and I love it, but I dont want to go through the trouble of recinfigging all my controls only to find out it doesnt work. I dont like single sticke because my twist handle logitech was unusable witht hat stupid twisty stick. Any force imparted on it would add in roll and got me killed way to many times before I gave it away.

Not sure if anyone still looks at this, but...

I have a logitech extreme 3d pro. It is a very nice joystick, except it does not stay calibrated, and there is no calibration software. The only way around this that I've found, is un-plugging it, and plugging it back in.

Since devs announce JTL will have joystick support many players have sought out to find that "perfect" joystick. Many sticks have been suggested all differing in style, price, and comfort. I took the time out to do some research on joysticks and thought i'd keep a compiled list of the favorites in the market today. Some of the sticks below have reviews attached but all direct you to the stick itself for your own look. Over time i'll continue to bump and add to the list and i welcome the community to add thier own stick suggestions as well. I'll look it up, post a link and find a review if there is one out there. I hope this helps the confused out there or those who've yet to evolve beyond the keyboard and mouse cause it is hard to find that one stick you really would like to enjoy and doesnt have things you dont need yet lacks the stuff you want.

Its totally time to update your posting... The x52 now works and has to be the best controller on the market. Feels amazing and honestly I cant use any other stick and throttle after using this godly stick. If you dont own one of these you are using garbage.

Try an Evenstrain Cougar, if you can get one.  You can expect to pay about $1000 for it, sans rudder pedals.  (For rudders, I recommend Sim Peds.)  It's pricey, but you can't beat the performance.  (And if you can afford a Ducati, then you can afford the Evenstrain Cougar.)  There is nothing that comes close.
