Anyone know of a good option for someone who wants a near HOTAS solution with force feedback? i like the Saitek x45 and x52 but from what i gather they have no feedback.  The only one i've found is the Top gun afterburner 2 ... which seems a little shy on the buttons,  Anyone got any suggestions?

I just bought the X 45 and while it seems neat, it also seems it's going to be a pain to learn to use

I support removing combat classes if keeping them in results in a "dumbed down" game

Are thrustmasters discontinued? Or can anyone recommend a good site that has a bunch of these controllers? I am leaning toward the Thrustmasters.....Hotas if I can afford it, Afterburner 2 if not.

Just curious I have the X45's too, what is difficult about learning? Perhaps I can assist.

I have a saitek x45

The throttle is a bit... sluggish, but I've gotten used to it, and play it in BF1942. For my fellow JTL waiters, you should get the galactic conquest mod for BF1942, the space combat in it is really really fun, and I love playing it with my joystick.

I've got a USB adaptor for a PS2 controller. I'll probably end up using that if it's compatible.

Cheers,

The difficulty I have with the X-45 is figuring out how to map the buttons. I'm used to console joysticks that is done in the game menu, I guess.
AN example is X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. I have no idea how to get the "missle" button under the safety to actually fire the missles.
I feel stupid for not knowing because the software seems so easy but I can't seem to find any realtionship between the neat 3-d menu and the current game I'm playing lol.

I bet my 11 year old son will figure it out though!

i suspect that joystick set up will be farely easy. simply just go iinto keymap in option in SWG and choose the fuction you want. Let say you want to bind a joystick button to fire at ships. Choose fire, when the screen comes up to change the key that you want to be fire, just hot the button on the joystick and that button will be on. Joysticks have a classification in games through buttons. the trigger may be Joystick button 0, side button may be Joystick button 1, etc.. Simply just map the stick out through keymap just how you want it. Its said that JTL will be stick compatable off the bat, keys are configured already for joysticks, so you may not have to do much configuring if any at all. Just take my word on it

Good post, I personally really like my Saitek Evo. Although it looks weird and uncomfortablt its actually very comfortable for my hands as I have pretty big hands.

I've got the Saitek Cyborg USB 3D gold....

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.   I've yet to have an issue with fading sensitivity...and I'm pretty rough on them.  (Commanche 4 anyone?)  I've had it about a year now, and no skips or glitches yet......of course after this glowing review, I'll have to go buy a new one.......lol

Aye this is exactly how the process works. If you've installed the accompanying Saitek software and launch the applet you will notice they silouette out both the throttle and the flightstick. It is a matter of selecting a button, say that missile button and then telling the software what actual keyboard stroke or mouseclick that button will represent, now we don't know exactly what controls yet will be used in JTLS but it's generally just a process of taking all the possible commands from JTLS which are keystrokes and mouseclicks and using the pictures on the softare to map these keystrokes/clicks to the particular button shown on the throttle/flightstick. In the case of the throttle up/down most flight or simulation software generally uses say the + key to increase thrust and the - key to reduce thrust so the saitek software will use throttle forward as a sequential + or - on the throttle so whatever the thrust increase keys are on JTLS you will map them also in the software. If you do have any problems once the game comes out please send me a message here and I'll see if  I can maybe better assist you live over yahoo or aim.

I got my hands on a Logitech Force 3D a few days ago. I normally never play flight simulator games though I thought I'd better have some Force Feedback for the space dogfights in JtL
