Last weekend we had our first ever Influencers Summit. It was a lot of fun, and I have to say I learned quite a bit. We deliberately brought people in that were some of our biggest criitics. We wanted to hear directly from them and understand the issues they had.
At one point I spent an hour or so talking with a group of the Star Wars Galaxies players that had come. It was a very interesting and enlightening discussion, and I wanted to thank all of them for their candor.
I wanted to make sure I close the loop on that discussion because I walked away with some new priorities.
Here are my thoughts:
1) Content is the single biggest thing people playing SWG want. - this surprised me. From our perspective we had thought revising the systems in the game (i.e. expertise revamps) was a bigger deal. While they did say this was important, I was susprised they ranked this higher than working on PVP.
2) This lead to a discussion about involving the community in the decision making process. They pointed out that we do a lousy job at this, and they're right. As such, you can expect a poll in the near future to help us prioritize things for the next 6-12 months.
3) Guild Management tools in SWG aren't up to snuff - I went ballistic when I heard you can only manage your guild through the terminal. We need to fix this.
4) Server consolidation - we need to fasttrack this - it's a very hard problem, and the team has had other priorities.
5) We need to explain ourselves and the thinking behind changes a lot better
6) Once we got past the "please bring back the pre-NGE servers" (no, we're never going to do that) the discussion really got down to brass tacks. Many people ask me why I don't post a lot here, and the simple answer is that it's hard to follow a thread when many of the posts end up being "bring back pre-NGE servers" and other issues we've moved past. Please don't misunderstand me on this - I get why some people want this. It's just that it isn't possible and at some point if we're going to move the game forward new ideas are at the top of the list of things we should be discussing. That's my view anyways.
Smed
lol,
well smed may have "moved past" bringing back teh preNGE
game, but alot of people havent, or at the very least would still like
to see it happen. I understand it cant...but hey, smed, when you yank a long term MMO out from under your customers feet, destroy their achievements, make most of their items useless, and destroy there game play, people will not forget it nor will they think kindly of the devnoobs that did it. So you get to live with unhappy customers, just like they had to live with a miserable product, or "vote with their feet".
The other thing Im glad of is that you got the "must have new content message"
really
dont see how smed was surprised by this...what does he think the
customer pays continuously for? the same old dungeons and the same old
loot??? Expertise is great, but when you HAVE NOTHING NEW TO USE NEW ABILITIES WITH....it is pointless.
We need new dungeons/instances and new content...here is a quick list of quick implementation options:
1)
Reintroduce Ancient krayts that cant be solo'd, and have them drop
flawless pearls again...I mean something that will take 5 or 6 players
to bring down....would be really nice to add some cool stuff/abilities to teh flawless pearls, since jedi are COMPLETELY left out of teh chapt 5 weapon slot/powerup features that is going to INCREASE THE POWER of every other class...
2) Jedi enclaves....fill the light one with
sith npcs, and the dark one with light jedi npcs (or vice
versa)....throw in some rare drops, UBER boss mobs and a dual bladed
hilt schematic (Mauls will do here) /some named color crystals and you
have a MEGA winner. Make TIMES, say 2 or 3 days a week where they are
mandatory pvp zones like restuss, and beef up the drops then...
3) The village...enough posts on this
4)
The great Massassi temple on Yavin - this has always been a great area
that is woefully underused...make it the next Restuss, add a
starport....rebs trying to evacuate, Imps pouring in...throw in a
stardestroyer blockade in Yavin space with a bunch of mon cals and neb
b's as well. Again, add in drops, GCW bonuses, etc.
5) Any number of other ideas....all of these use EXISTING art resources, primarily....comeon guys....
Then of course there is the stardestroyer as a battlefield, etc, etc.
Imagine
if guilds could build their own cap ships or space stations, in a
modular fashion...oh my...but that would take real dev work...

I'm just gonna come out and say it...you guys suck, really.
This post of yours shows how little you listen to us. When you take out the sandbox, you need content. Restuss is a poor excuse for content. The only thing I see it as is a centralized PvP spot due to the lack of players we have now. It's been over a year...come on now...
Why exactly is Pre-CU so impossible Sir? You say it's impossible...why? How come a few nerds can do it, yet you guys can't?
I really thing you guys want this game to fail. If NGE was not a hit (My God it was a disaster) when it first came out, it never will be. No matter how much you put on a crap base, it's still going to be crap.

Then can we expect "more" communications form the team, what about some info on the expansion that is planned.
Why does it have to be an expansion? I'd settle for some more high end stuff to do in the current setting - DWB was created in 2004, as were the Vette instances. I would rather have more like this (but erm, more challenging plese) than being led by the nose round some new planet.

1) Duh PVE is more liked how could you get it so wrong
2) you DO do a lousy job you constantly nerf and do things and change things that we didnt even ask for (NGE for the largest example)
3) Your just learning this? you need to get up to date with this game + the guild terminal needs extra things dont change the terminals just add stuff to them
4) Wrong the team said there was no need for them (Wouldnt you be admitting the NGE was wrong by doing this?)
5) We have only been telling you this for the last 3/4 years and even though you say this it wont happen because you said about the communication last time and its barely improved
6) New ideas? most of your ideas seem to be WoW remade to SWG (like the GCW system which WoW removed) and more than the few which you speak of want a pre nge server
The reason we want content, is because the game mechanics (while it had its fair share of problems) were just fine prior to the NGE. However when you changed the game for the worse, you not only left content out, but you also destroyed the games mechanics. So now you have have two HUGE messes to clean up.
I know you guys have been working hard to get things sort of right and back to normal, but its still very far from finished.
I say you create two teams over there (depending on your staff), one for Content only, the other to fix the game inherent and annoying bugs.
For the bugs portion, lets work on Targeting/Combat, User Interface, More in-depth Expertise or multi-classing again.
As far as content goes, Jedi need an FRS type system again, BH and Smuggler systems need to be more robust. Each profession should have roles in the game, not just a couple uber skills.
Then you would have a well oiled machine and not a kludge.
So whenever you can lay out a Publish Plan for us, of what is to come after Chap 5 and do the voting thing, then will I be on board with you guys.
I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

More vocal minority spin? I think you need to reverse that stance, in fact, it is a pretty safe bet to say that some people want the NGE, while the remaining masses want either CU or Pre-CU. And why would this be impossible? There is a group of folks out there who re-created the pre-cu version, the same group that you didn't have a lot of faith in, so if they can do it, why can't your team figure it out?
When will we ever get any kind of direct answers? Oh and Garva...I know you're all ready and hyped up to ban folks on the new forums per your last thread, but try to keep it down to a low roar.

Could we get an updated outline for where the game is heading? We have not had one for ages. Content is very important, and yes the community is screaming for it. There are a lot of issue we would like a response too, for example pack-up of houses on inactive accounts. More communication please... talk to us. Answer our questions. Thank you.
