Last weekend we had our first ever Influencers Summit. It was a lot of fun, and I have to say I learned quite a bit. We deliberately brought people in that were some of our biggest criitics. We wanted to hear directly from them and understand the issues they had.
At one point I spent an hour or so talking with a group of the Star Wars Galaxies players that had come. It was a very interesting and enlightening discussion, and I wanted to thank all of them for their candor.
I wanted to make sure I close the loop on that discussion because I walked away with some new priorities.
Here are my thoughts:
1) Content is the single biggest thing people playing SWG want. - this surprised me. From our perspective we had thought revising the systems in the game (i.e. expertise revamps) was a bigger deal. While they did say this was important, I was susprised they ranked this higher than working on PVP.
2) This lead to a discussion about involving the community in the decision making process. They pointed out that we do a lousy job at this, and they're right. As such, you can expect a poll in the near future to help us prioritize things for the next 6-12 months.
3) Guild Management tools in SWG aren't up to snuff - I went ballistic when I heard you can only manage your guild through the terminal. We need to fix this.
4) Server consolidation - we need to fasttrack this - it's a very hard problem, and the team has had other priorities.
5) We need to explain ourselves and the thinking behind changes a lot better
6) Once we got past the "please bring back the pre-NGE servers" (no, we're never going to do that) the discussion really got down to brass tacks. Many people ask me why I don't post a lot here, and the simple answer is that it's hard to follow a thread when many of the posts end up being "bring back pre-NGE servers" and other issues we've moved past. Please don't misunderstand me on this - I get why some people want this. It's just that it isn't possible and at some point if we're going to move the game forward new ideas are at the top of the list of things we should be discussing. That's my view anyways.

I'm just gonna come out and say it...you guys suck, really.
This post of yours shows how little you listen to us. When you take out the sandbox, you need content. Restuss is a poor excuse for content. The only thing I see it as is a centralized PvP spot due to the lack of players we have now. It's been over a year...come on now...
Why exactly is Pre-CU so impossible Sir? You say it's impossible...why? How come a few nerds can do it, yet you guys can't?
I really thing you guys want this game to fail. If NGE was not a hit (My God it was a disaster) when it first came out, it never will be. No matter how much you put on a crap base, it's still going to be crap.
The sky is really falling...
OMG. People want more communication from the devs - they try to listen to the players and head toward making the necessary changes, but whenever a dev posts his/her views all they get is flamed for it.
Really people can't anything just be a constructive discussion?

Why does everyone, including you Mr. Smedley apparently, think that content has to be and is limited to pve only? Content is important to the game as a whole. Their has to be balance, if you concentrate on just one aspect of the game you are half-assing it plain and simple. Yes we want content, for both PVE and PVP. As a PvP'er I would admittedly like to see more PvE content. And it should be CHALLENGING. MMORPGsare most fun when you accomplish something challenging as a group. That is the big difference between PvE and PvP and why so many end up choosing PvP. Simply put, other players are a smarter, adaptive, inventive foe that are a challenge. Often PvP requires large groups to accomplish victory. So in summary:
Content is needed, but don't limit to either PvE or PvP.
People want a challenge
People ultimately are social creatures and enjoy teamwork

Then can we expect "more" communications form the team, what about some info on the expansion that is planned.
Why does it have to be an expansion? I'd settle for some more high end stuff to do in the current setting - DWB was created in 2004, as were the Vette instances. I would rather have more like this (but erm, more challenging plese) than being led by the nose round some new planet.
Agreed - figuring out those dungeons back in the day was awesome. Some challenging dungeons for the modern game would be fantastic

We have been screaming about this for a year now, im mad it took you (SOE) this long to hear our plea's for more content, but i hope you are finally going to listen to us.
We never wanted this game to be geared towards only PvP, its why we all played preCU and the CU, it offered us PvP if we wanted it, now its the only thing you seem to be developing on, and for a majority of us, we could care less about PvP.
I think we should move past the 'insulting' phase and start posting some more ideas. We don't want him to dissapear for another 6 months.

Dude...Smed...this has ALWAYS been the case and has ALWAYS been stated here on the forums. 5 minutes of reading a "what we'd like" thread would have given you this mystical information.
Content BLOWS right now and it is JUST NOW coming to your attention?
Get in-game some night. Learn your customers. You think I give a rats ass what my customer wants for their products? NO. I really don't care - I'd really prefer to just send them an invoice and have them pay it. BUT...because it matters to them and they pay my bills, it becomes my JOB to give MY customers what they want. I also usually have to ASK what they want.
And don't let this cheap remark be a cop out to not fixing bounty hunter like we've been told would happen.
what people need to understand is Smed is at the top of the company he doesn't know all the details of the games or problems within them. He most likely relies on the people below him to accurately report this information to him. Sounds like he's been getting fed bad info and actually took a face to face with players to enlighten him.

I'm sorry Smed, but I can't wait 6-12 months for new content. As a three year vet I've exhausted the majority of avenues this game offers and I'm unwilling to sit it out for another 6 months to be presented with a $20 expansion pack with 100 new quests.
Combat Vehicles
Capital Ships
3 years to make them and yet they don't exist in the live game...
I've waited patiently and sat through the changes, supported a lot of them and continued paying my subscription despite the game being incomplete. My loyalty and paitence is wearing thin and I can tell you that 6-12 months for content is unacceptable to me and I very much doubt I will stick around to see this 'content'.
