Hmm, maybe its XP generated in total in certain categories?  Might explain the killing the critter being key - maybe the weapon used needed X amount of XP.  The mastering a profession is a way to get to that total without giving numbers.

I suspect someone else has alluded to this already.

Ok I've been reading the hyp and flaming on this thread with some interest. It's great that the game has its first Jedi...nice to see. However, grinding out 10 professions to Master is not my idea of fun. Monika, (who is a 34 year old man btw) admitted he plays 5 hours a day and more on weekends. Hmmm well unfortunately I don't have that kind of time to play (I do have a job). So it looks like the powergamers are going to be the Jedi's...well done SOE! Furthermore we are no further ahead on what exactly we need to do to open the FS. Personally I'm not going to gimp my toon for a "chance" of becoming jedi. Nice marketing ploy to keep us suckers in the dark and more importantly....paying each month!

Well I'm not sure about this but thought I would post it anyways...

Looks to me like the DEVS have made the FSS a means to grow community and game play enrichment.  As in declaring residence, thus making the proposed Player Cities more successfull.  Also the holocrons could very well be meaningless, perhaps the Mastering of skills is set such that people must aquire a certain amount of apprentice points creating more player to player content.  Thus making specific skills to be Mastered irrelevent maybe all we need is 3200 points in Apprentice.  And of course the theme parks are the DEVS reply to the thousands of cries that we have no content...

Just a thought... chase the holocron or be your own...

If you want a holocron, group up with friends. Decide who gets the holo first, then second, then third.. etc..

It is a lot more fun this way. If you trust someone enough, you can have fun.

In reply to my flamed post - It's a fair call I agree I havent unlocked it sure, and I agree hole heartedly with on this and in your position would most likely say a similar thing if it wasn't for the three million posts from DEV's saying that it is not a requirement to use a holocron to achieve the FSCS.  But hey it's just the programers right they can be wrong ooo they could be lying to us phea! mor elikely thye are telling you everything you need to here but your not listening.

My post was agro I appologise for those who took offense, I had just come from a long meeting with Electronic arts the Oz distributers for the game sorry the meeting was terrible and I apologise for my post however it still does not chnage my view that it has very little to do with holocrons.  Someone reworded the question and it makes much more sense that way and I congratulate them on doing so.

If you ask the DEV's again I'm sure you will find they agree on the holocron side of things but yes it would be nice to know if it is preset or random or doesn't amtter at all but I guess the biggest thing against the holocron method and it only a small factor, that the new jedi did not unlock there slots while using holos it was during the normal grind of gameplay that the slots were unlocked not through skill mastering so there you go again an opinion not a force method, like it or not it's mine.

I would like to appologise again for the manner in which my previous post came across when re read even I was affended and I worte the **edit** thing *LOL* all that said I am only echoing the stated words of the men and women who built the game...

And I must again repost a question to the jedi out there what was the level of your skillz allowance at the time of unlocking i.e. how many of your 250 allocation had you used?

missed a bit sorry *l* if that was your reasoning for asking the question then perhaps it's best to state the reasons making it a clear question it sounded vauge and very much like the continualy repatition normally dropped around about such things.  A clearer question may make it possible for others in a similar situation to help you as well with your question.

Heh my views have changed *l* I have recently read a Q& A from IGN concerning the FSCS and it indeed seems to be a list generated when your character is created, this list is checked against your character logs during play and when you log on and off (as everything you do is hedl in your system and character files on your PC go have a look it's quite a sight *l*). the list would appear to contain skills, locations Items and particular battles and creature NPC kills. as you do them they are checked off the list and eventually you are done.

well thats they way it looks from the interview anyway so the holo's give you the path to skills you need which explains why some people have 3 skills then silance and other have done 4 or 5 before getting no more, it explains the randomness of the unlocking (during all manner of things from comabt to arriving at a star port).

and answers the question about giving or selling holo's to others even if they get the same skill requested it would most likely be on thier list as well!

once more ideas only pull it apart or take it as it is, it's a pretty good idea though.
