If it has not changed - I know this to being a fact. I know it is fact because someone cheated and i got the inside info. This was a local friend and his brother worked for SOE (No longer works there - ironic) in California. If you don't believe me then don't but this really happened.
I will not say any names or character names - i don't want to get anyone in trouble regardless of their crimes. I am already going out on a limb posting this.
I will remind you again, this was a fact up to atleast December 15th (around when this player unlocked).
First, take a look at his profile in the Holobase - No holocrons used, unlocked on 6th profession with Dancer.
Creature Handler was mastered prior to him finding out what skills he needed to master. The next five where the ones that unlocked his FS. The "CSR" gave him his list of professions to choose from to unlock.
They are as follows (Master 5 of the following 6 to unlock):
Commando
Marksman
Dancer
Carbineer
Rifleman
Architect
As you can see in the Holobase, he mastered all of those except Rifleman and unlocked. This means the following:
On character creation, you are assigned 6 professions. I am still unsure when your Holocron goes silent - who knows it may go silent for others faster than it does for others. I presume the Holocron goes silent on everyones 4th. This means that once your holocron goes silent, there are 2 professions left that you can master to unlock.
I call this the 4+1/2 (four plus one out of two method)
Once again, this is NOT theory, This WAS fact unless SOE changed how it works after December 15th of 2003.
I hope this helps guys - i've been holding this information back for a while now but i hope this might clear up SOME speculation.
Another note - this character did not play a lot. This character had no badges and did not complete any theme parks. This character did not have a home or declared residence. The character unlocked purely on mastered professions.

My point is not to get anyone any closer to unlocking with this post - only to possibly eliminate some of the many theories and speculations out there about how many professions you have master and yadda yadda.
Personally, i absolutely believe that once you go silent, you need to just play the game and start mastering professions. I believe that the system is completly random at choosing professions for your FS slot.

So what you are saying is that there is no 4+1 it is just 6 professions. I thought the difference between the 4+1 profession guys and other theories was the fact that the +1 meant the silent holo was pre selected. Which mean you could still get 4 holos even if you master your silent profession already. What you are saying is that if you get 4 holos you have a to get 1 more out of a list of 6 of them

But with the first at anything they probably manually opened the FS slot when everyone was around to see the event. Also I have not seen the Vader message that came out when the first couple Jedi's were created since then. So it was probably a manual system for the first few Jedi after that they automated it

This has been stated before. She had already mastered her Jedi professions but, since she was the first, the devs threw her switch manually when the final bits of Jedi code were in the game and ready for her. Everyone since has unlocked after mastering a profession.

Monika had already gotten Jedi before SOE turned on Jedi. When SOE turned on the system to actually allow Jedi's in the game she had to kill something to activate her FS slot. This is not case for players thereafter. Many of the first Jedi probably had this method of unlocking their FS slot.

I dont believe you... lol ok you could be right but it doesnt make sense... the jedi code wasnt ready? the devs put the holocrons in the game because we were taking too long to get to jedi. they wouldnt have done that if the code wasnt ready... where did you people get this info? from the devs? or did somebody just make it up.
