Its funny I came across this tonight as I was thinking about what joystick to buy...I definately want one of those snazzy ones with the separate throttle base.
Actually getting kinda psyched about it

Currently, I have 3... Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback 2 and WingMan Force 3D
Sidewinder Pro is nice as a basic joystick. Nothing fancy and works like it should.
Force Feedback 2 is amazing. I don't think it can be bought anymore, and came at a hefty cost before. The feedback feels good and have a heavy enough base that it stays planted. If you can get one of these go for it.
WingMan Force 3D is one I just bought yesterday. I only bought it because my Force Feedback 2 is good for a college dorm being large, and my Sidewinder Pro won't work with my laptop. Normally I love Logitech products, but bleh. I've already had to return 1. Now maybe I'm just spoiled by the FF2, but I was disapointed with this. In both of the ones I used, I could hear the motor grinding whenever there was supposed to be resistance. When I let go, the stick won't center properly, so I drift if I'm not always holding on. The one I bought also didn't looking like the floor model, but that doesn't matter.
just wanted to pop by for a minute to add to the exchange...
if CH is half the company they used to be, they make some of the best products out there... way back in the day they were by far the most precise stick on the market, even if they lacked a little in "feel"... they are kind of big for the smaller hands, but they have almost no tension...
my first HOTAS system experience was with thrustmaster's FLCS and TQS, which is undoubtedly the beginnings of the cougar... also a great setup, i'd love to try it out again..
currently i'm using another old setup that hasn't been mentioned here... the Suncom SFS... it's no longer in production, i think the company went belly-up, so i don't really know why i'm mentioning it... except, it has been my favorite setup to date... it feels great, it's easy to use, and it's ripped straight from the f-15 (my preference to the f-16 of all the others)... if you can get a hold of one of these sets, i highly recommend it... they were extremely cheap back in the day (in comparison to everything else), and although no longer in production i'm sure there is a warehouse full of them somewhere... when i got mine they had been out of production for about a year...
saitek has never really fit my hands and kind of felt uncomfortable to use.. but i might have to give them another shot with that x52... i don't have the money for a cougar...
Exellent thread. I have one question if someone could answer. I took a look at the Saitek X52 and I am determined to buy it but I can't find the expected time they have to release it. I am a bit slow at finding things on a screen so if someone could help me out it would be great.
Also, any other opinions about another joystick would be highly appreciated aswell.
I have gone through probably 5 different sticks, after my wingman died a few years back, picked up the x45 its nice and all but the sticks real tough to move spring is just to tight on it by the time u move the thing its gonna move more then the stick but the whole stick and base was playing with this though, really responsive little stick.
I have Microsoft's Force Feedback 2 and love it. It's a great flight sim joystick.
Same here. Got everything I need on the stick that is simple press, and easy to reach. It also vibrates when my ship gets hit

Question: I'm going for the Logitech Freedom Cordless, and I've been wondering - how do I buy a throttle to go with this thing? If I buy a throttle from another company, would it be compatible with the Logitech? And, does anyone sell just throttles - as in not a 'throttle-and-a-joystick-in-a-box', but a 'just-a-throttle-in-a-box'?
Hmm, no link for my Microsoft Force Feedback 2. But it is still my favorite out of all the joysticks I have tried. (It's also great for Mechwarrior games)

CH does, linky. Not sure how it works with another joystick though.
I have used a CH stick ever since I started playing the old X-wing game on the computer. I currently use the CH F-16 Combatstick. It's build like a tank and has a great feel and response. Very precise and solid.
I have a Logitech Wingman Attack 2 and I would just not recommend it.
I don't like the way the stick moves at all, nor the buttons on the base, nor the trigger, nor the lack of a hat button, nor the way the base slides around.
I have a much older Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro which I definitely prefer.
The Microsoft sticks are pretty good, but I think it should be mentioned that Microsoft discontinued manufacturing joysticks. So, unless you find it used or on ebay, its really tough finding them now as they aren't sold in stores anymore. You may get lucky and find a hole in the wall shop that has one or two in stock on the shelf, but you get the point.
