I've gotta spend more time cruising the bazaar, methinks. Finally got around to picking up the Starmap rewards. Very handy. I look forward to REing them... once' I've churned through another 5-600 loots to ensure I've maxed out in each category, that is!
Oh, one little bit of a suggestion (subject to Jotun's endorsement, of course) to pass along regarding RE's. If you've got a fabulous piece of equipment, you might try using it for a while, THEN RE'ing it. You effectively extend its life. I've got a nifty little lvl 2 reactor that puts out over 14K (un-re'd) with a ridiculously low mass. I know when I RE it I'll benefit from the armour and HP of whatever piece I mate it with, so I'm not overly concerned about the decay in the interim, so long as I don't accidentally let it slip too close to 0. Of course, I make it a point not to get killed much, so I suppose that helps, but then I don't PVP much (sorry, Jotun!), so that might have something to do with it too...
Wanted to resubmit my suggestion/query for a response, and add another one:
From what I can tell, it's worth it (on everything but shields, which have their front/back spreads neutered the minute you fly with them) to use many components first, THEN RE them. For example, my un-RE'd lvl 2 Reactor with over 14K output without overload. I should be able to use it for the duration of its natural life (which, at lvl 2, isn't overly long, armour/hp-wise, and THEN RE it to give it a whole new life, pairing it with some intact, high(er) armour/HP component. I'm sure I'm oversimplfying, but I'd appreciate your comments...
And, (speaking again of reactors, oddly), you mention the possible value of RE lvl 1 reactors with good output. I may be mistaken, but I think these cannot be RE'd, right? (the RE level representing the number of components that can have their stats combined, so an RE lvl of 1 could not be RE'd with anything).
L1/RE1s can be REed. That's what makes them so attractive to SWs - no other component is required to RE them, which makes them doubly attractive to KSE disc hunters.

Went looking today for the first time in a bit. Junk...a few decent pieces, but overall...gah. Now that I finished SA, I may be spending a helluva lot of time in space. Your prenerf goodies are hard (read impossible) to catch up with, but I feel like giving it the old college try. Vaksai anyone?
Well, as I've said numerous times before - run the Starmap quest if you haven't.
All I know is the Krayt I'm working on is going to be like having the ability to kill anything in less than 30 seconds.
My third L10 isn't quite ready for prime time yet (some numbers are decent, but mass definitely needs work), but if I were to RE it and stick it with my other two on a Krayt...using WO3 I'd be putting out 43342.6 damage per second.
God only knows what it'd be after WO4, which I'll probably be able to use with this L7 reactor I have ready for REing. So damn light I'll be able to put it on a JSF in place of a secondary weapon, and run CO/WO/EO4 without any overdraws.

On today's episode of "Jotun's Aneurysm," we present a new character, a semi-well-known Shipwright who never answers his emails or /tells...or at least doesn't for me, and probably won't after today.
Wacky hijinks ensue as blood spurts from the nose and ears of a man as he finds yet another wasted part on the galaxy's bazaar.
Can any of you students tell which part that was REed on there probably SHOULDN'T have been? I mean, it wasn't even REed with one of the HANDILY available post-nerf L6s. Furthermore, a MkIV (or even MkIII) crafted engine would probably perform better in this situation.
