Great guide. This has happened to me too - I tipped at least 10000 or 15000, then they asked for more. And for a month, he has been asking for more money from me. I stop because that is not how I started, it is more fun earning I think, and I don't want to go broke so he is happy.
I gotta admit, I'm one of those people who ask for money instead of working for it. The first character I made, I had absolutely everything handed to me. But after reading this, I'm gonna change my ways and work for everything. Also, another tip:
Sell your lots if you aren't going to be a an Artisan. (for all the noobs, it's the spaces you have for structures and stuff.) You might wanna keep 2 or 3, in case you want to build a house. But I did this once, and someone gave me 100k for 3 lots. That was perfectly enough to get me to TKA.
Thanks guys, now I realize how annoying I must've been and will try and work for everything I get.
Here is my advise for newbies, mostly conserning Entertainers though.
If you are an entertainer do yourself the favour of not using AFK macros where you spam "Tipz plz". You do not want to use those kind of macros for two reasons.
1: It's bloody annoying for everyone else that your afk bot is spamming every 15 seconds (Or faster, I've seen down to five seconds). Yes, /addignore is in the game, but why should we have to ignore you to have peace
2: Almost no one tips afk spam bots. So you get nothing for your trouble.
Instead, be that entertainer and Entertain! Players often don't mind shelling out a great deal of credits for a chat and a dance. Socialize! I know I often find myself doing /tip Randomfunnyentertainer001 25000 bank, even though I have no Battle fatigue to speak off and no wounds. I just like to listen in the cantina for a few minutes to see who is afk and who really entertains the crowd.

Ah, for the days of shakin my can in the Lucky Despot. I have played this game non-stop since the first day of Beta-2. *whew* I'm tired. When I came across this post, I just had to throw in my comment. Yes, it was blissful in the old days when people respected one another and didn't assume helper == personal bank account they could draw from because they were too lazy to even run delivery missions. At first people who asked for help wanted just that. I don't know how many people I sent to Anchorhead. Probably 100 or more. In town delivery missions rocked. Oh, sure.. they had to enlist in the rebel alliance but hey.. Alas, what happened to the breed of player that had pride and wanted to earn his/her keep? Lately my age and length of gameplay time have made me cynical I suppose. Now when that new breed of player comes along and asks for a handout (my favorite one was a guy in a full suit of composite armor) I offer them the option of dueling me. If they win, I will gladly give them 5 or 10k credits. Funny thing is some of them actually take me up on the offer. But I'm not *that* cynical. I don't normally DB them.

RazorBlade79 wrote: Oh there is one thing I remember doing, don't know if this is effective though. If you just started as an artisan, you can do crafting mission for xp and money; if you only want xp, get missions close to the terminal, so you dont have to walk to the first npc. Then talk to him and craft. Abort the mission. You won't get money, but at least some quick crafting xp without the need of ressources.
Here is where the money for newbs is... 1. Use a few credits to get Novice Artisan, you can always drop this skill later. 2. Use that free ticket the helper droid gives you, to buy a starport ticket to Moenia, Naboo. 3. Pull out that free rental bike, get on it. 4. Go to the artisan mission terminal, put the "generic crafting tool" in your backpack that you got when you joined the Artisans, on your hotbar, next to the mount/dismount macros you can get in your ctrl+a window under "other". 5. Get 2 "crafting" missions that pay as close to 1400 credits each as possible. Hit refresh as often as you need to. You don't even have to check the details on these because they always go to the exact same place...Deeja Peaks. This means you get just under 3k per mission run. 6. You might think it's faster to take the shuttle but it isn't, because of the location of the deeja shuttle, its way off to the side of the city. I have timed it. You can make the run (including all the pickup/craft/deliver steps) on the rental speederbike in 7min. 7. Follow the waypoints to pick up the items to craft. Dismount, converse with the npc by double-clicking on them (this only works for these particular deliver missions, other mission types the default may be "attack" and not "converse" so don't double-click except on delivery missions. Click on your crafting tool on your hotbar, choose "missions" from the tabs, then double-click the item you need to make, double-click the resources to load them into their slots, then as soon as the crafting window closes you can get on your bike and head to the next npc, while the tool finishes crafting the part for you. Repeat at this second npc, then get on your bike and follow the waypoints to Deeja. 8. Dismount, then deliver the items by double-clicking the npcs again, then find an artisan mission terminal and start all over, it is exactly the same but takes you back to Moenia, you don't even have to check details as long as the payout is close to 1400. 9. You may want to make waypoints to the mission terminals by typing /waypoint when you are at one, then going in your datapad and renaming them to Deeja Mission Terminal, Moenia Mission Terminal. 10. You will make 25k credits in 1 hour. Do this as long as you can bear it till boredom stops you.
Now go spend your credits on: a new vehicle, make sure the durability on it is as high as possible to keep repair costs down.
Some tips in case of troubles/bugs: 1. If your vehicle poofs 5 times you lose your bike, you can continue to do these missions using the shuttles, just takes a little longer. 2. If you get there and one of the npcs is not there to deliver to, or is stuck in a wall: deactivate the waypoint to the mission, get a new mission, reactivate the waypoint, and the npc should appear in the right spot. If he doesn't, you are screwed, just delete that bugged mission, and pretend it never happened. About 10% of my missions were bugged to the point I had to delete them. Sux, but if you are gonna play SWG get used to bugs.
Finally, good luck! You will feel much better having earned your own credits. I ran those missions and in a few days had my own house, a new vehicle, harvestors, weapon, etc...

Don't beg from the vetaran players. Its uncouth and annoying. Talk to people get to know them ask their advice about things. IF they want to they'll give you things to help you out. When ya get confused go sit in the cantina. Lots of people go in and out and they know a newbie when they see one. You'd be surprised and how many people you meet and are willing to help out. When I got confused about something I went to the cantina and found a helper and asked questions.
Whats the point in a newbie beggin for composite amour? Ya won't be able to afford the buffs to wear it.
The most important tip. When ya go on CH camp destory missions, before ya shoot at anything make sure ya kill the pets. Its the best advice I can give ya.

One of the things I've found to help making money as a new player is to buy a bunch of mineral harvestors and plunk them down on a good concentration of metal. I find you can usually get some good spots around Anchorhead, and you can place them closer to that city than others. Then after a day or so of letting them run, turn around and sell a stack of 2000 for 6000 on the bazaar = easy profit.
I had a guy come up to me at the Emperor's Retreat a while ago and ask me if I wanted to kill Stormtroopers with him because he was holo-hunting. I told him that since I was an Imperial I wouldn't be helping him kill Imperial soldiers. He asked how to sign up to be and Imperial, too, and I told him. Now I wish I'd actually taken time to go to some city and show him this stuff, just because it probably would've been less confusing.
But honestly, most of the time I'm dubbing around in game anyway. It's rare that I have a grand day of plans. I have the Helper tag up. If a newbie asked to group with me to run missions I likely would (so long as he spoke in real sentences and could be taught not to just randomly shoot the lair while I'm up to my eyeballs in swarming dewbacks or something). That could be fun, I'd think. Heck, I might even make an Imperial convert with my smooth-talking ways!
But yeah. "Can u give me money, plz?" pisses me right the hell off.
For godsakes, newbies. Find a buddy, make sure he's a good one, and STICK WITH HIM/HER! Just DO IT! Never leave their side, even if you're not making money. Ask them where they're going and if you can help.
If you're a marksman: Follow them and help them if they're not grinding If you're a medic: FOLLOW THEM! You are very likely to get tips for healing them. If you're an entertainer: Have them put up a camp and heal their wounds. They will be VERY appriciative. If you're an artisan: Ask them if they want a CDEF rifle. If they say yes, give it to them. If they say no, ask why, and say that you're trying to start off and see what kind of stuff you can make.
I just wanted to say to everyone that took the time to post something here, THANK YOU,THANK YOU, and did I mentions THANK YOU! i received the game 3 weeks ago thru the trial and bought the game my second day. With all the time the Helpers have taken to answer my somtimes ridiculous and sometime repeating questions, Im sorry but thnxs. You all have helped me very much and i always say Hello To a Helper When I see him. And for those of you That I asked for money when I first started, im sorry, I just did not understand the game enuff. But now i am making a mark for myself and hope to excell in my new carbineer skills, and am almost a master Artisan. But always grateful for all your help, Thanks Kedasco from Chilastra.
Great post, we need more threads like this. I have a few thoughts on this:
I agree that many of the new players (and I must emphasize here, not all new) are different from when I started playing. I never asked for anything, yet was often given things - why? I was nice to ppl! I'd ask them about them and I didn't say 'hey can you give me this so i can do this'. I just recently started a new character on a different server and without asking for a single thing once, I had a creds and a vehicle and armour etc. Just by talking to people and being nice. I didn't spam or beg. I went out and did things for myself and ppl respected that so they helped me out which allowed me to do more for myself and so on.
My best advice to a newbie, is to help people. From the moment I started the game I helped people who in turn helped me. Remember those who help you and make an effort to return the favour. I know ppl don't help to get something in return, but if they help you appreciate it. Just because you are new doesn't mean you can't be of service to someone else!
I always enjoy helping someone who actually wants help and not just $$. I always watch the novice dancer and not the master, I always tip and try to tip constructively (eg. a tipped a artisan in steel instead of cash so he could make swoops). However, I took down my helper tag after too many ppl equating helper with welfare office. Even more distressing is the amount of ppl afk spamming 'i'm poor please tip me'. I feel like telling them, well if you're poor shouldn't you be playing the game to make $$ instead of afk begging?
This thread has encouraged to put the helper tag back up.

-when you choose an entertainer or medic, you have to rely on other people to tip you. Don't be rude, noone is forced to give you money. Either live with the fact that only 1 out of 5 people tip you or make your money with survey/combat. Do not spam to remember to tip the entertainer/medics. That's just stupid, I tip always, but not people who do that.
Many players do not know that the only income of Entertainers is tips from other players. Many players think Entertainers get payed by the game mechanics to play music / dance in cantinas. While I do not condone spamming per se, I do think Entertainers should educate their fellow players about this. This is particularly a problem with the rampant buff bot problem.
thanks, and besides this point, great guide!
