What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
1) That this was a /lastditch by SOE 2) Like a big fat sucker for buying 2 copies of ToOW 3) That SOE's PR dept probably isn't earning their keep. The official announcements did nothing but make the NGE sound like anything remotely good. 4) Despite all of the above that somehow it was possible that this would all turn out for the better.
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
1) Prof selection screen is ridiculous 2) The opening was cool (despite the falcon bug) 3) The fact that you don't get a specific faction flavored opening is a bit annoying
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
1) Didn't make it off the station but I enjoyed the early content
2) Skill screen is equally ridiculous
3) Still not sold on the new immersive feel as that could disappear as soon as I get off the station
What class did you choose to play?
Smuggler
What do you like the most about NGE?
1) The combat was enjoyable 2) The opening series of station quests was cool but I have no idea how long that content lasts
What do you dislike about NGE?
1) Lack of character diversity ... unfortunately thats a deal breaker for me and my friends
2) The way it was handled and launched ... very poor which is never a good sign for things to come 3) Given the lack of char diversity no skill release and no change to the one char per server limit is just adding insult to injury 4) If the players around me were any indication this will become an even more Jedi centric game
Bottom line is that, while I can see the good intentions behind the NGE, the detractors currently outway the positives for me and my friends. That coupled with the underhanded way SOE handled the release timing with ToOW has us looking for our next game.
* Since I had already read the leaked information from the poster's uncle, I was not suprised and was excited to hear that it was true. The game was dying, I was getting bored outa my mind! All the leaked info made sense from a buisness direction, and when/if we took a step back out of our boxes, it made sense to the players too! Bring more people in!
* I was just too danged excited, first reaction to fast movement was, YES finally!
* After an hour of play, I was a bit annoyed that collision wasn't in (but I knew this already), because I was attacking too many things at once. But otherwise I was just having too much fun smashing things and doing quests in a much better Journal system!.
* I choose Jedi. I have a fully templated Jedi on live so I was too curious to see how the NGE experience of Jedi would feel, also very curious as to the skills we would receive on the 15th when we get converted.
* What I like most, better Journal, faster movement, story driven quests (even on Tat the story is still going!).
* No collision. Game is not truely skill based since laser blasters "heat seak" you. Melee needs to be sped up as far as being able to move and attack *new animation time!!*
What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
A bit surprised to say the least, although the idea of a combat balance was something I felt was a long time coming in the making. I do have to say announcing it one day after ToOW launch shakes my confidence in SOE and LA.
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Nice intro sequence. Seemed like the game has a much cleaner look, which I like.
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
Only got as far as the Falcon's ramp, so I logged after about 20 minutes.
What class did you choose to play?
Jedi
What do you like the most about NGE?
I think the new combat style is a refreshing change, albeit a bit buggy on TC.
What do you dislike about NGE?
Couple things that may or may not be an issue. One is the new "fixed prof" rule. Either allow people to dump all skills in some way or give a second character slot. Doesn't seem right to ask people to give up a toon that some have had for 2+ years. Also, PLEASE make sure the chat boxes aren't always disappearing and reappearing, and that ctrl t and ctrl r work as they do currently. One thing I absolutely hated about EQ2 was the difficulty in talking to other players. SWG has a large social community, and I'd hate to see that sacrificed for game mechanics.

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
I was stunned. I could not believe such radical changes were being made to the existing game so soon after TOW, and worried for the loss of friends leaving the game.
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Star Wars!
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
"This is getting annoying." Honestly, the camera collision into all the objects and walls was really getting on my nerves. Mind you, in the space station (cramped as it is) it's to be expected. Running around from place to place, level to level, and npc to npc accomplishing my mission had the same "Timesink" feel that the inane grinding does.
What class did you choose to play?
I chose to play a commando, because for me, Melee combat is much better than ranged, due to a disability. I was disappointed that I needed to use ranged weapons despite that, and received no melee weapon nor a mission with an option to obtain one.
What do you like the most about NGE?
"It's a new game"... the 1.5 hours or so I got to play (up to leaving the station) really wasn't long enough to "get into it", since I was only doing the tutorial, for all intents and purposes. I'd have to say the opening movie is about the coolest thing I saw in the NGE. The atmosphere in the game had something going for it as well. So, Gameplay-speaking, I'd have to say that there's enough in common with the existing game to keep it familiar, and I liked that.
What do you dislike about NGE?
Controls. I'm disabled. I can't use a WASD movement scheme. It took me a good 15 minutes to manage to map controls to my mouse buttons (4 and 5 for forwards and backwards), and I only managed that by virtue of going into the control panel and setting those buttons to W and S (keystroke).
Camera .... NGE claims that existing camera settings are in the game, however I couldn't find a single place to turn off this "over the shoulder" view. It really was difficult in smaller quarters getting anything done - camera jumps around in the elevator for example, and clicking on the UP or DOWN box for it was very difficult... for such a simple action - frustrating.
Movement - why can't I walk? Again, due to control and camera issues, walking a precise path (turning into a room, for example) is awkward and clumbsy. Being able to slow to a walk (mapped "momentary walk/run" to shift, no change in motion speed) would help immensely.
UI / onscreen graphics. Is it just me, or is EVERYTHING smaller? The environment, the NPCs, the other characters... everything seems to have been cut down to 2/3 size. Again, making things more difficult, especially with this "hover over target" thing. I can easily see this being an issue for people with visual impairments.
Again with the size, all the fonts and text is way too small. Targets in cluttered areas (be it "stuff" or other targets) are extremely difficult to identify.
Automatically switching to whichever target your mouse passed over last. ?! What's the deal with that? The tab-target system was superior.
Disappearing Chat Window. It turns transparent sometimes. Besides chat already being more difficult, the game seems focused on making socialization with others and those around you more difficult. I don't want my chat window to disappear, ever. Especially not in combat.
Thanks folks!
Additional comments:
The above suggests that I disliked it immensely. I did not. I found enough similarities to what is already SW:G that it can be enjoyable. I *think* the majority of the player base can adjust to this and a fair number will thoroughly enjoy it.
I definitely found it had a more "Star Wars" feel to it than when I first started in SW:G over a year ago.
My main concern is motion - it was awkward and clumbsy at best, since, like many others, I am disabled and cannot use a WASD (keyboard) movement schema. However, Tiggs, you said that the devs are looking into this.
A bigger step than allowing mouse mapping would be to have a preset control schema in place for mouse movement as well as the one (and only) available in the NGE TC. I'll trust that the Devs and management find this important enough to see it through.
Being able to smack the <ALT> to point the reticle off-center at targets was also useful, however there's nothing in the tutorial that explains this, and probably a lot of people will get frustrated trying to shoot at targets while moving, thinking they have to choose a path corresponding to the target, or stop shooting to go in a certain direction.
Melee combat may not have been big in the movies, but really... it's not only understated in the NGE, it's nearly non-existant... or at least, from the starting point to level 5 in the station following the tutorial.
Otherwise, I and my 3 accounts will be sticking around Post-NGE.

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
There had been a post on the jedi forum about this before the announcement so nothing really we all knew it was the way the game was going.
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Why do I have a stinking rebel scum farm boy on my character sheet. Kill the farm boy.
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
Someones managed to be in for an hour? From what I saw it was very well put together doesnt look like a copy and paste job at all which I sort of thought it would.
What class did you choose to play?
Jedi, have one on live and wanted to see how it measured up.
What do you like the most about NGE?
Its feels more like fun, no longer is there the constant waiting to get ganked by bounty hunters or hours spend grinding out xp for the same mission from a terminal.
What do you dislike about NGE?
The lack of Variety among characters of the same profession, we all have the same attack, same equipment more or less and so use the same tactics. There is no customising your character to your playing style. So in many ways its a first person shooter with who has the biggest gun wins.
There is a feel at least at the beginning that not enough is based on the characters choice, the first few missions are to do with Jabba et al. And this seems very un imperial. It would also be nice as there are 9 standard professions a little bit more was related to what you play and the conversation options available.
I would just like to emphasise this a little more, with the first few moments of game play Im asked to attack imperial storm troopers. Who want to recruit me, hell thats what I want, I want to be on the empires side. So why do i have to force my way out to continue we should be allowed to shoot Solo and that walking carpet in the back. As it is all the 12 year x box players that you asked if they wanted this change may have told you I wont a be a webel but this just gives the wrong impression about the galactic civil war and makes everyone think they are ment to be on the rebels side and painting the empire as evil.

What do you like the most about NGE?
The new combat system and the variety of quests, made the game much more enjoyable as far as combat goes.
What do you dislike about NGE?
Movement, if its going to work with PvP, you really do need to work on movement, make it a bit more fluid, slow it down a bit, otherwise pvp battles will be lasting 10+ minutes because if you have a moving targets thats simply trying to toy with you or run, you won't hit them nearly enough to ever kill them.

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
Shock and disappointment. I feel that so much changes without announcements were made not for existing players. And soo many marketing in every word of announcement, and so many social and economical flaws will be in new game, which transforms in combat game, not balanced between combat and economy, as before.
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
All is very easy. This "starwarsy" feeling was achieved by cheap tricks as placing Han Solo, Chewy and C3PO with voiceovers. Interface is very simple, and very offline-feeling. All game now feels as offline game with less usefull chat window as before.
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
I dont like very simplified game and combat. I like some features as filters in quest journal. But i like previous structure of journal. This structure is less oriented not on doing many quests, and more for one-by-one quest completing. I dont want to see what i get for some quests. This ruins surprise. Game becomes more linear and very predictable, and sometimes this disappoints.
What class did you choose to play?
Randomly pointed on Spy. No reason.
What do you like the most about NGE?
Quality. This game have more technical quality. We waited this quality for monthes for old SWG, but never get it.
What do you dislike about NGE?
Simplycity. All very simple. I feel this game was designed not for mature players, and not fol veteran players. Maybe i played this game if it was introduced as separate game on other servers, but if i have no choice between complexity of old SWG and this new game, i think i choose third - other product. I dont like that NGE was introduced same moment as my card was charged for ToOW. I expected to play ToOW little longer but i forced not to get all experience i paid for.
I dont like that i forced to change server or character when i want to try new profession. This new game design is ruining community and social links. Community have two choices - be stuck in one role or selfdestruct. I dont like that new design introduces social separation on Vets and Newbies. As i understand Vets will have some features that newbs will not get. Vets will be visible by CL90 on their title. This produce social separation not by deeds as before (i play better cos i gave more game experience and work hard) but separation By Nature (i bought game before you bought and have more features you will never have). This will born hate.
Game lost freedom and variety, but introduces gameplay based on I-want-to-me-as-Luke (Leya, Boba, anybody). This game model is classic offline limited-rpg shooter model.
I haven't tried all the professions yet,nor have i tried using a lightsaber. However, personally i LOVE this new system. I do feel a little peeved about grinding Jedi to see this, however the new content has taken my mind away from this. Now, i can actually say, GREAT JOB SOE! I feel that this system is the way forward, and could help the game population rise. It feels much more ' Star Warsy ' and surely, that is a VERY good thing.
Good job SOE and LA, a well thought out system

- I support a rollback and keeping & balancing the old combat system. ...and making SWG a better place to be. Your voice counts!
* What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
I was shocked, I was appalled that SOE would care so little about their customer base to wait on announcing this change until the day after charging everyone's accounts for Trials of Obi-Wan, I was disgusted that entire playstyles were removed from the game, and I laughed when I heard that it was becoming just another MMO in character customization abilities.
When Julio Torres said that this was to help immersion in the Star Wars universe, I laughed heartily. Because player Jedi do not belong anywhere near this timeline. Let alone as a starter class. It is obvious that no care was given towards preserving the mystique of Jedi, which despite the developers' attempts to commodify that, is what actually makes them special. Not the lightsaber and robes.
* What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Once I got in at a time when lag was not in full effect, the combat system was fun. The loss of modeless chat was frustrating, and that did not change with time. It was obvious when I entered the game that little-to-no thought was put into how these changes would effect players who do not play exclusively for combat.
Oh, and the movement system ("Snappy movement") is the most unrealistic movement system I have ever seen in a game, and that includes the original Doom, Pong, and Superman64. You even edged out Pac-Man.
The idea that an Entertainer
* What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
The combat system is a great one.
Everything else about the game has morphed into a horrible, twisted version of everything I enjoy about SWG.
If you instituted this as a New Combat Enhancements instead of New Game Enhancements, I would love it.
However, the loss of multi-profession templates, decay, slicing, professions I loved, and the ability to change classes, along with addition of the even stricter based Level system, the oversimplification of most item statistics, and the strictly combat-oriented clicking behavior do not justify supporting this change as a whole for me.
If I only played the game as a combat game, I would love the changes. However, I do not. So I don't. But I do respect that the combat system is a solid one, and it would have made a great Combat Upgrade the first time around if it was all that was changed.
* What class did you choose to play?
I played Commando and Entertainer.
* What do you like the most about NGE?
The camera angle you stole from Resident Evil 4.
* What do you dislike about NGE?
A.I. is horrible (NPC's all either stood still and shot or ran up to me and hit), movement is horrible, lack of CH is horrible, the fact that you have now given us "the necessary thing for SWG to continue" twice in 6 months, both times on the cusp of an expansion that was prompted only by marketing tie-ins, lack of multi-profession templates is horrible, lack of changing templates is horrible, homogenization of templates is horrible, Jedi as a starter profession is horrible, the ability for an entertainer to reach full template entirely AFK WITHOUT EVER MOVING FROM THEIR FIRST LOGIN SPOT is horrible.
I also don't like being spammed by NPC's, in text or in audio. If I want to hear an instruction again, I'll ask for it. I don't need two NPC's shouting at me every five seconds because I encountered a bug, and I don't need to see the same "hilarious" exchange between Mustafarian miners constantly clogging up my chat box.

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
I felt dread and anger. (I would not have bought ToOW If I had known this was happening. I would have waited.)
What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Dread, and anger still.
What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
I felt like it was time to say goodbye to SW:G for good. I felt like if I had wanted to buy a console game, I would have. I felt like if I had wanted the game to be revamped yet again, instead of fixing it, I would not have played SW:G to begin with. I feel a tad Jealous when I look at other game's patch notes, and then see SW:G's.
What class did you choose to play?
Jedi, Though I used a pistol while doing most of the quests.
What do you like the most about NGE?
Ok I know this is where I get called a Troll because I liked nothing about NGE, but I am being 100% honest. I really liked none of the changes that the NGE has made. I'm still shocked and amazed that we cannot get fixes to stuff instead of changing fundamental game mechanics so drastically every time it doesn't seem to be going well for SW:G.
What do you dislike about NGE?
The NGE Makes me feel Confined. It's like pre-nge is Corellia, with wide open spaces, and plenty of room to do whatever I want, and the NGE feels like Kashyyyk, It feels forced, infexible, simplified, confining, and boring. I dislike the NGE because everything that was worth sticking around for (despite the bugs, the lag, the lack of fixes, the lack of free content, the lack of extra character slots......) was removed. You took away the uniqueness that professions offered, that profession dabbling offered. You took away the visibility system, you took away my choices.
You took away my choices. Do you understand? The NGE is saying to me. "It's too hard for us (developers) to fix the game, so what we'll do is make it easy for us to fix by taking away all individuality so that it's simple to fix."
In the past 2 or 3 months that this has been worked on, you could have chosen to fix a whole lot of things and even add in a lot of content that would have improved the game immensely.
Thanks folks!
Thank you. I appreciate you giving me the chance to express my feelings and thoughts here. Although it is not enough to make me resubscribe. I'm not sure anything at this point is enough to make me resubscribe. The game is 2 years old and has lost out on a lot of chances to turn itself around, I think it's just too late for SW:G now to ever regain the popularity it had at launch.
