About that... This week I was in Las Vegas, and I got a call from my house sitter....

My Chinese Dwarf Hamster died I'm not mad, but when My daughter comes over and sees her best friend is gone. I'm fu**ed.

I still don't understand how the little guy died, its 70 degrees in the house, he always has food and water and clean cage..

Maybe my cat grew thumbs and let the hamster out.

****, you can copy between disks? Think they were copying onto floppies and transferring from one to another. Last I heard, TheAnswer had to run out and get a new floppy drive because he broke it.

Well if transfer rate is the limitation right now, we're running at speeds equal to mid 90's ZIP disks.

I didn't think speed was the limitation but he was clearing room which dictated having to do this, so thought I could offer more ROOM

But I see how this is a "Hosted" box so it's not really "upgradeable"

    Was worth a shot.

Feel free to hop on my Minecraft Server. just PM me for info.

I'd love to play some Halo 4, Haven't played since the Virgin Mobile Infinity Challenge.

Oh, sorry, I meant the limitation in the speed of this process. Yes, lack of available space on the SSD's is likely why they're doing this whole thing. Unfortunately bigger ones of those cost several thousand dollars each, and they would need at least two.

I'd venture a guess that the issue is iops not transfer speed. Without getting into too much detail, the SSD disks have that in abundance but the sata disks which (I assume) they are reloading from are only good for about ~150 iops. The reload process is iops intensive and as such will reduce transfer speed to a crawl.

I imagine he's dumping from the ssd's to the sata hdd's. Then he'll boot the server from the sata hdd's to test the shrunk database has worked, and if so copy it back over to the SSD's, overwiting the old DB. Its should be sequential write though which you can do decent speeds on the sata disks. Its random read/write that suffers.

25 hours and counting. I understand it's maintenance but, I'm starting to feel like I did back in the day. As the server lay dormant to me and not knowing what little things might be lurking on the other side, I can't help but wonder, once again, "What is going to be broken when they finally DO bring the servers back up? What did they break during the "fix"? How long will it be taken back down to correct those mistakes? And how long will it take to correct THOSE mistakes after that? Am I going to be rubberbanding everywhere? Will I have to do the last 2 hours of XP grinding again because they rolled it back? What did they break now?!" But that was when SoE was running it, right? ....Right??

My Xbox has done nothing but collect dust since I logged into the EMU 3 or so weeks ago.

Doesn't matter. You had a reason to worry about it with SOE because you were paying to worry about it. This is free, and people are working out of dedication and passion. They don't get paid. Don't worry about it.

If this truly is a hardware issue. Then I think it us up to us (the players) to do something about it.

I personally don't know much about server hardware, but 2.00ghz seems prehistoric to me. My computer is currently running at 4.6 ghz.

Maybe we could do an in-game event, like a booster or a fundraiser. With pledges or something. We could hold a marathon gaming session, and have 10-15 players play, and the others will make pledges per hour played.

    Example
10 players played for 20 hours.
1 pledge per player of 10cents.
    (20h * .10c ) * 10= 20$

With 10 players playing and 1000 .10 cent pledges, and 20 hours played.... That's 2000$ roughly at a cost of 2$ per pledge.

It is on the low end, but this could be a big thing for us. And even start to get more players/programmer/developers out of it.
We could stream it on twitch or other gaming channels. As well has host a chat for people who are watching to comment.
