Hi, lurker here but I don't think ****** is gonna get anal over a game that has been discontinued for what 3 or 4 years now and only serves a rather niche market that being people who were already playing the game.

Paypal accepting bitcoins will never happen. If you sign up for a coinbase merchant account they convert the BTC to USD immediately so that you're not at any risk of the price fluctuating; their fees are a whopping 1%. I'll start the donation rally and pledge $150 for a Bitcoin donation button.

I'll pledge an additional $50 if they add it. I'm not posative but I don't think it costs anything to use the Coinbase service for merchants. They are just charged 1% of any monies received that are transfered out of the account. So if you have donations converted to your local currency and then transfered to your bank, the 1% would be taken from that amount.

What exactly doesn't make sense?

That you can only donate trough paypal or that paypal doesn't accept cryptocurrency or even recognize cryptocurrency as a real currency? Or maybe that people can not donate bitcoins (or other crypto coins) because paypal doesn't accept them?

I know that cryptocurrency is the new "best thing since sliced bread" thing, but until we can pay all of our bills with it, and until it is recognized and accepted by all relevant institutions as an actual currency, and our bank and paypal start accepting them, we cant use them.

You can offer us donations in firewood or ladybugs, and while we are grateful for your generous offer, until we can actually pay our bills with those, we must respectfully decline.

So what happens when your 3rd party currency system crashes or goes away? Where does your money go then? Who will trade it for USD then?

Maybe you fail to realize the money scam you have allowed yourself to get sucked into by purchasing fake money with real money. Ask anyone with real money if they would ever trade their real money for fake money in hopes to trade it back for real money later. Who's winning in that situation? The person who issues the fake money or the person who gives their real money to receive fake money in a voucher system. How about we all start trading Cartel Coins from SWTOR and hope we can pay bills with that.

Real financial institutions do not recognize bitcoin because it's not real money. But hey, you want to wrap your paycheck up into some money laundering system and believe you'll get it all back later then be my guest. Maybe you should sit down and try watching The Wolf of Wall Street

PayPal isn't a 3rd party, it's very much so like a bank with a real account that holds real money. I've had a MasterCard with PayPal for many years.

As said... trade it for USD or the currency of your choice that paypal accepts and donate it. Or give someone that will use paypal the bitcoin and have them sell it and paypal it. Do you hate paypal more than you like SWG?

Accepting Bitcoin donations is easy, all you need is an address and wallet to receive the money, plenty of websites just post an address on their main website or you could do it in the forum, copyright lawyers don't play nice, so it's a good idea to put in some failsafe's just in case, you can also avoid a lot of paypal nastiness if everything goes to hell and they try to shut you down and I suspect they will.

I looked at this website after quite a few years and I'm amazed at the amount of progress the devs have made, one thing that springs to mind though is where is the source code? I haven't had the chance to have a proper look for it but one way to prevent this whole project from falling apart if legal issues bring it down is to just post up your code online and making it open source.
