Is that what happened.. They had a party foul and dump it all over the HDD?
SSDs are a "guaranteed to fail" technology. They have a limited lifetime. This is not a surprise to anyone who maintains high-availability services.
Combine high-availability with high transaction (write) rates, and "average expected lifetime" of the hardware is an overly-optimistic guess, at best.
I understand that this is user-funded.
I understand that this is volunteer staffed.
I understand that users will gripe at the hint of ANY downtime.
I just observe that you (the EMU team) have your best people wrapped around a critical failure. Please understand that I say the following with a HUGE amount of respect and admiration for the team: "SSD technology *WILL* fail. Plan for it."
Again, great respect and admiration for the work being done.
Question your assumptions.

With that said, even the $15 a month per account wasn't really a deterrent for people that wanted to power game. Dealing with that is going to be a massive issue when the time comes to launch Suncrusher.
But we aren't there yet. Wanting to make e-fortunes and having a more vibrant social scene are not a priority at this stage in the development cycle. Sorry.
