    The SWGEmu Development Division

    We are using Jenkins & Gerrit. You can find all commits to Test Center Nova here. You can still report all bugs you find on Test Center Nova to the Mantis Bug Tracker. A helpful guide to bug reporting can be found here.

    We have also reached one of our most important milestones for 1.0. Our new AI have been merged to TC Nova. Dannuic and Miztah are the masterminds behind it. We expect several bugs with this merge and would appreciate it if our community log in to Nova and test the AI out and try to break it. For the ones interesting in testing, see this thread.

    Staff Round-Table

    Fastburn - Quality Assurance
    This year has been an interesting ride for all of us. This will be the first time I am able to write one of these as a member of the Quality Assurance team. After deploying Publish 10, the major work for Publish 11 has begun to come on line. The main change we are testing now is the new AI, which has been worked on for a long time now and will bring on a lot of features that we are missing in combat abilities, combat difficulty, and of course crackdown. There are a lot more features to how the AI differs from what we have now, and there is still a great deal of work and testing before itís done. There is still a long road on AI testing in front of us and I hope people will jump on and work with the team to get it in shape. Itís a very large change and it should positively affect everyone who plays the game. I look forward to testing this system with you guys.

    I want to thank the developers who have worked on this project we all enjoy and the people who have tested along us and the contributors who have helped out with closing tickets and fixing issues. It means a lot to us and the project that people step up and help out.

    2020, here we come.
    Farelli - Quality Assurance
    2019 is coming to an end. On the surface it seems like not much happened. Publish 10 was released starting on April 27th, which is so fitting it tickles me. April 26, 2005 was the last day of pre-cu, so the irony is not lost. Also, as far as I know, no one has found the little Easter egg I left in Pub10.

    But behind the scenes we did a lot of work, devs and support/mods much more so than QA. We're making a lot of improvements that will help us going forward, including the QA team picking up events, getting us a bit more organized, and then bringing in some additional people to help with that. More work is being done in that area.

    We started to improve communication, opening up a little bit, with the LordKator interview. While some didn't find it positive (haters gonna hate), it was a big first step in opening up our team to the community a bit and creating some transparency.

    We also had a little open discussion about JTL. What that really did for the community is show everyone the fire that exists in the hearts of all the loyal SWG players. It also put a shot in the arm of the project, so to speak, resulting in an uptick in donations and volunteer activity.

    Finally, we survived the temporary onslaught of WoW Classic. At the end of that period, we've seen a rise in new registrations and online players. Who would've thought?

    Looking forward to a great 2020.

    Hakry - Quality Assurance
    This year has been a good one for SWGEmu and though it may be tough for a lot of the members of the community to see it, a ton of work has been put in by the Staff as a whole. Some of those things may be apparent and others are back end type things that will gradually aid in helping us provide a better Pre-CU experience.

    It may at times seem like things are moving extra slow, just be mindful that we are still strong in pushing to our final goal and providing the best final product that we can. A lot of effort has gone into ensuring this happens from the beginning of the project and continues on now.

    We look forward to diligently working on the remainder tasks and features that draw us closer to our goal, while continuing to sharpen up already working ones. As we prepare to enter a new decade, remember that we are all here for the same reason, and the more we make our community an enjoyable and pleasant one to be a part of, the more likely it will be to continue to grow and flourish.

    Another year has passed. We have all become one year older and we are one year closer to the finish line. Lets hope this year is the year we can announce the end of the project.


    We saw a new publish this year and we got a new live support to make the experience better for users and staff a like. The team have also had a huge crackdown on members in the community that have been cheating with multiple accounts. The amount of accounts that have been banned is staggering. Because of the issues with multiple accounts, the team decided to update our rules with VPN and tools have been put in place to help staff follow through on our rules change on VPN. We are eager to continue our journey to end this project, so that we can start creating! Lets get it done!

    As we look to move beyond SWGEmu 1.0, we have decided to open-source the engine3 code that supports core3. Over the years, there has been much internal debate on this step. Recently through discussions with Oru and TheAnswer, we have concluded that it is time to open-source the last bit of the SWGEmu code base.

    At the beginning of the core/engine 3 effort, many groups were trying to land-grab and confuse players while claiming the work of others as their own. For this reason, the core developers decided it was best to keep the engine under wraps while openly developing the core3 game code base. This decision, combined with the laser focus on pre-CU 14.1 emulation, kept the project from fragmenting and losing focus. As we look to move beyond the pre-CU 14.1 milestone, we felt it was time to revisit that decision.

    As we prepare for a post-SWGEmu 1.0 world, we need to find ways to embrace and collaborate with more developers. We are starting a Special Interest Group (SIG) for JTL development, and that team will need to refactor/extend the underlying engine to support space-related gameplay. We are hopeful that open-sourcing engine3 will also encourage new developers to join our post 1.0 effort and create the version of SWG we all wish to build and enjoy together.

    Please note that we're releasing this under the same license as Core3 and we expect users of the code to abide by the terms of that agreement. Keeping in mind that using this code to provide a service over a network requires the complete source code must be made available. We reserve the right as original creators to make changes as needed for the official servers so we can keep people from cheating and also add features to support a bit of fun and mystery to the project for us all.

    We are looking for passionate programmers who can dedicate some of their free time to volunteer for this project.

    Required Skills

    - Intermediate knowledge of C++ and/or Java
    - Minimum experience with the Unix/Linux environment
    - Familiar with scripting languages such as LUA

    Recommended Skills

    - Object oriented programming and design patterns
    - Understanding of transactional systems and client/server architecture
    - Concurrent programming (threads, mutexes)
    - Experience with SQL
    - Reverse engineering skills
    - Game modding experience

    How can I contribute?

    Contributing is easy if you have set up the environment and git you just commit reviews to http://gerrit.swgemu.com as simple patches. After we approve some of your patches and we see that you're comfortable with the framework you get git access so you can commit directly.

    Support recruitment

    Our support team needs to be strengthened and we are searching for one or more interns that we can train to become CSRs to help our community in support about account and in-game issues.
    Some of the tasks that our CSRs handle are:
    • Approving multiple account applications
    • In-game issues like getting people unstuck or help them been able to log in a character
    • investigate reports about rule breaking on our servers
    • Help with Events and setting them up and/or execute them
    The work is done in two systems. We have a live support, where you can talk directly to players with issues, or we have a ticket system where you will answer the ticket, trying to solve the issue or answering questions about policies.
