Another login server address and/or IP change

April 2013
The SWGEmu Staff

Another login server address and/or change

Our login server address has changed to login.swgemu.com with port 44453. To continue to log into our game servers please update your LPE or game settings. This will only be necessary until the DNS propagates, probably less than 24 hours.

Here is how you do it:

1. Goin in to your SWGEmu folder (C:\SWGEmu is the default location) locating swgemu_login.cfg file, opening it with notepad and changing the loginServerAddress0=nova.swgemu.com to loginServerAddress0= login.swgemu.com

NOTE: Once you do that dont run LPE, us the SWGEmu.exe from SWGEmu folder to run the game. If you run LPE it will update the swgemu_login.cfg and delete all the changes you have made.

2. When you run LPE press the Servers button at the bottom and the add. Name a server Basilisk (or something) and add other details like in this picture:

http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/7567/capturepgch.png

Once you do that select Basilisk from the slider (server selection) on top and press PLAY.

NOTE: If you chose this method you will need to do it only once, then just select Basilisk on LPE if it by any chance changes back to Official.

We apologize for this inconvenience and we thank you for you continuous support.

New IP is resolving for me okay, so no changes needed here. BTW devs, when you guys anticipate an IP change like this you can lower the TTL for the DNS A record in advance, which should result in a much faster migration. 3600 sec is a pretty good balance of queries vs. freshness, compared to the typical default of 86400 sec.

Hello,

I tried changing the IP, but it's not working for me.
What I did:

1. I went into my SWGEmu folder and located swgemu_login.cfg file.
I edited it with notepad and changed "loginServerAddress0=nova.swgemu.com" to "loginServerAddress0= login.swgemu.com".

2. Then I run LPE (it says "NOTE: Once you od that, don't run LPE", but then on step 2 it says "When you run LPE..." which is very confusing?), and I press the Servers button.
I add the new server and call it Basilisk with the address "login.swgemu.com", with the correct port (and I also marked Custom server).

3. I click PLAY, but I still cannot log in.

What's the issue here? What am I doing wrong?

I was having all the above issues...here is what I did to fix it.

1. Open the SWGEmu folder
2. go to login.cfg and open in notepad
3. change the old login info from loginServerAddress0=nova.swgemu.com to loginServerAddress0=login.swgemu.com
4. Open SWGEmu from the SWGEmu folder...it will not let you log in yet....close it.
5. Open LPE and do the changes listed on the www.swgemu.com homepage...but in the LPE use the IP 166.78.151.61 NOT login.swgemu.com
6. Login again...it still won't let you...WTF! :D Close LPE.
7. re-open LPE and choose Official SWGEmu Servers
8. Done

I know all this info has already been posted, but if done in that order it will work.

Access to the login server has been spotty tonight. This is why some in the thread have had no problems and some have. If neither option works, this means the login server can't be reached. Just wait a bit for TA to fix the problem then you'll be able to login again.

1) You're retarded, stop complaining. You're lucky the webserver is even up right now.
2) It was required. There are issues that need to be sorted out.

To everyone else, please be patient. We have lost our primary login server and our secondary host is currently experiencing technical issues. ETA on their fix for whatever issue they're facing is unknown. Connections may be possible, but sporadic. If you have the patience you can keep trying but there's no guarantee you can get in, but once you're on a character you should be fine.

Until you disconnect or go to character screen, that is. Then you're screwed again.

I have a question about when the login server goes down. If your character is performing a skill action, does the character still gain XP?

Whenever the login server has gone down for me my game tends to lose all connectivity to the server in general. Earlier today while I was performing, my character would stop flourishing and if I tried moving around he would be locked into a performing animation.

This is separate and is called a soft-disconnect. It happens quite often (every 30 minutes or so) in populated places and has nothing to do with the login server. You can see more info about this at the link below, and can also help fix it with some logs if you would like!

Depends. Dancing/playing? Yes and no; for the few seconds that the character remains in the world, you'll get the idle dance/music experience, then disappears and no longer get exp. It just saves your skill animation state when you log in again, but it only counts the exp during those few seconds after disconnecting. The login server and game servers are separate though, if you disconnect from the game due to instability it just means you have to go through the login server again.

There is no value of time really, it merely depends on how many people/NPCs are around the player in loading distance that can cause the connection to desync and be severed. Time merely statistically points towards more of those disconnects, but simply level musician/dancer/etc in an unpopulated area for less disconnects.

Host pings are coming back positive, should be able to log in now, but no update on the status yet so length of stability is unknown.

ya know what the forums need is an app that determines what region we are in... like for instance a post says 2300 actually be 2300 by the logger. so if anyone thats not living in idk texas it would show up as something else.. that be neat....

example being unrelevant to forum. but it kinda bugs me when i get porn err sext invitations from sites that are 1200 miles from me. such as altona.. anyone? heh. regardless.. i think i should get appropriate times when something was posted... js..

It works, just make sure that you aren't using the launchpad because that will change the server name back to nova. Once you change the file, just use the SWGEmu.exe and you will be fine. Its been working great unless I forget and hit the launchpad again. If I do that, I have to go back and change the file again.

You can use LPE, but you'd need to add a custom server pointing to login.swgemu.com along port 44453, since the default is nova.swgemu.com for LPE settings. Using the "custom" server would work that way. But LPE sucks butt anyway.

Vlada
04-28-2013, 09:12 PM
Looks like this is going to be a permanent change, if you used method 2 keep Basilisk selected when you launch LPE. If you did the 1st method dont use LPE or it will overwrite your settings, or just do the 2nd method.

Good Evening
I just got the game, and can't log in, I keep getting the "The Login Server is not available. Please try again later" sign.
I'd like some help here, thanks.

It's broken for up to 24 hours. Unless you are in the game already, go find something else to do.

Switching to Official Swgemu Servers doesn't work nor does the new server address. Am I missing something?

There still may be issues, it wont work for everyone. It will take a while longer for it to get back to normal. If you can call any of this normal.

The dns record on your computer might still be retaining the old IP address. I currently am experiencing the same issue and I'm in the process of correcting it. In the past we were given the exact IP address to add, eliminating the potential issue with DNS. This time we were given the task to add a name (login.swgemu.com) instead of an IP address. If you type cmd in the search or run box then do ping login.swgemu.com and get "pinging login.swgemu.com [166.78.151.61]" its got the old IP stored. The new IP address should be 50.97.160.122.

Updated Fix: Type "ipconfig/flushdns" in the command promtp (cmd at the run/search box)
then do "ipconfig/registerdns". This should now make login.swgemu.com point to the current IP address 50.97.160.122 or whatever other IP address if there's multiple hit points.

This will work regardless of dns status. Assuming you don't change log-in servers again.

Ok this just worked. WTH!?!?! thanks man!

I performed a ping on the DNS name login.swgemu.com and got a return address of 76.73.75.106.

Once I added the IP address to LPE, I was able to login.

I just tried these changes, but I am told that access is denied!

The above was from page 1 of this thread, but I had the same issue last night, when I finally got a chance to update my files. The problem was with the SWGEmu folder itself - no matter what security properties I changed to teh entire folder or the .cfg file itself, I got a similar error message that access was denied and that I needed admin permission.
Problem is, I'm running Windows 7 as admin and unable to change the .cfg file to fix the server address - I'm assuming this is what was referred to above.

*I did find a workaround, by running the LPE update and adding the custom server - it fixed the .cfg file that my system wouldn't allow me to update manually. Still unsure why, but will post more if I happen to find a way around this.

Thanks for being helpful but, a bump for this now only going to cause confusion for some.
