Clone Wars, The Exploit... Update 1 - August 1, 2020

After the first announcement of this exploit, we’ve heard concerns from players about their items and resources. After internal discussions on how to proceed without harming our community even more than it already has been, we have decided to continue to follow our policy of deleting all duplicated (duped) items. We apologize for the time it took to let you know about this decision, but in implementing the fix we kept running into obstacles.

Primarily we decided on this course of action because the way the objects were duped would cause server instability over the long term if left in-game.

The second reason is when reviewing the duped objects themselves, we found very high concentrations of items in just a handful of accounts, those accounts are being investigated in more detail as we progress through the cleanup process.

We have decided we will mark these items no-trade for 14 days before we delete them so players can review the items and potentially resolve issues with sellers of those items. Each character possessing a duped item has received an in-game email that lists what duped item(s) that character has, and therefore no longer can be traded and will be deleted in 14 days.

Duped items we have identified from this exploit have been made No-Trade for 14 days before deletion.
These items can't be moved off your character, not even to other characters on the same account.

If the item itself has been duped or crafted using duped components, it will be noted in the item description with the following, in red: "Staff have blocked this item from being traded."
If a duped ADK is applied to an item, the item will be marked as No Trade with the following description: "Staff have blocked the Anti Decay kit on this item from being traded." At the end of the 14 days, the ADK will be deleted leaving behind your item.
The reason we have made two different notes is to differentiate them for players;

if only the item is blocked, you can delete the item and still trade your ADK afterwards.
If your ADK is blocked from trading, deleting the item it's attached to will still not let you trade the ADK.

The investigation is on-going and we will ban more accounts as we identify them, if you have information that can help us identify players involved in real money transactions please contact our support team so we can continue cleaning up Basilisk and improving our tools for the 1.0 server.

Again we would remind you that real money transactions for items or credits in game are a bannable offense according to our Terms of Service. However, if you did participate in a real money transaction we recommend you report the seller as having defrauded you via whatever payment method you used or through whatever way you found them. We will continue to investigate and if we identify your account as having participated in real money transactions before you come forward to us we will permanently ban your account.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

In the list below you can see all the duped items. What is on the banned accounts and what is on accounts that have not been banned. People has also been deleting items, therefor you will see some discrepancy between banned and active accounts.

We are aware that there are edge cases that will create some issues in 14 days when we plan to delete the duped items. Like duped buildings and containers. We are looking into what we can do about issues like that. As stated, we don't wish to harm our community more than it already has been.

At some point I maybe I can do a video interview on this phase of the project.

I know people are going to be very upset but to be clear the system found items that had been crafted from dupes too.

The exploiters were duping components and then using those to craft or sucker others into crafting items. My guess is they assumed I couldn't join that data back to the items that were crafted. They were very wrong.

If you have an item with an ADK on it when we delete the ADK the item WILL REMAIN please do not panic, that said it will no longer have an ADK!

There are still many edge cases to action here, some people have cloned houses and other items that we need to carefully address.

Nothing like short-cutting your crafting to make an extra buck and to try and hide what you're doing.

I've bought lots of other deeds from that guy though and none of those were duped. Also, why dupe components for a single garage, and not a factory run of garages? I'm sure you've considered this, but is it possible there are false positives?

Can't you all do popups for posts? Like, I remember when I signed up for the forums, I got a popup to check some specific post. When I asked later about something that was addressed in that post, instead of answering it, some mod apparently reset that popup on my login. lol

What I'm saying here is...if you can do something like that, seems you should do it on a post like this so everyone sees it. :P

I spent MONTHS on the code that identifies the dupes, it's 1300 lines of code and the overall system is 10,000 lines of code.

I've checked it over and over, ran the code against TC-Prime and did literally 100's of spot checks.

And yours particularly was interesting being 1 of all the other items so I looked at it, not a false positive, sorry.

I hope not, personally I'm not upset; I lost 2 ADKs but I was expecting much worse to be honest. What I wasn't expecting was a message from someone letting me know that they got an email about a crate of Pikatta Pie I made for them a long time ago! I can't figure that out, maybe I bought duped milk or additives? Who know..

Mostly I'm just confused looking at that list. If you sort it by the number of items on active accounts it's almost all clothes and food on the top of it!

After the initial wave of things becoming No Trade, like ADK/CFR, those were instantly sent to the stockroom rather than remaining in the sales listing. These should act the same way.

I'm not worried about the garage deed itself. They're cheap, and it's not sentimental, so I can just get another (if I don't have one laying around already.) It just seems odd to me. I guess he could have made it with duped resources or something and didn't know? I just don't understand why someone would dupe a single garage, but not a lot of them.

I also know identifying this stuff wasn't a casual effort, I didn't mean to imply that. I imagine no system would be perfect, given the complexity due the volume and the years and years of changes in production. I'm a Systems Admin and I've been working with databases for a bit over a decade now, so I'm aware of how complex it can get. Obviously I'm ignorant of the specifics here. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around some of these things and make sense of it.

Is there any way of checking certain structures to see if they are marked to be deleted and the owner has not been in game for a long time?

Awila

Not that I can see if they are placed. I had two wearables factories that I just pulled and they are flagged. Same goes for buildings. A placed building will show the name in the email and if it is unique you can determine which building. I have a small tatooine house like this now that I need to empty.

So I have 2 items flagged, 1 pantaloons that I have 4 attachments in, Im pretty sure Ive had those for at least a few months if not a years or more. the second is a generic guild hall.
I assembled that myself and Im pretty sure I still have all components used to make it in my inventory and they are not flagged, nor are any of my resources. it seems very strange

Wow! Thank you so much for the effort you are all putting into this. The amount of time youve all had to spend on this is nuts! Now that your all properly buttered up (really, not really, lol)

is there any chance we can get coords for the effected items?

I have one of the duped travel packs (no seriously a frackin travel pack MADE with duped components), but i have no idea where in NIKA it is. Its not on my toon Etheb, yeah the mayor with access to everything citywise, so its stashed somewhere in the city, lol...

Found the object. Will keep the question posted so others dont need to ask.

Keep in mind, the “NAME” in the email is whatever the item is named not the name of the person who you got it from..... (i.e. mine was a travel pack but named VERGOO to reflect the contents inside)

This actually was a concern of mine, I would ask people to look first and if it gets unbearable I could try to add emails to where the item is in game. Some people are finding them in banks etc. But yes its a bit annoying, I was limited in how much I could put in the email for fear of people missing the details.

For the BE Clothes... it was mentioned in another thread that it was the be synth cloth. Could it actually be the CAs for the BE clothes?

The only reason I'm asking is because I have a pair of pants that that are flagged, however, I have another pair that's from the same schem/crate that isn't. The only difference is that the flagged one has some CAs on it.

If you worry about your non duped ADK on a duped item, just delete the item before we do. You will get your clean ADK back.

It should not matter. When we delete duped items, the non duped ADKs should be left, but you never know. There are so many variables, so its hard to say 100% that we will not have issues. Better safe than sorry, just delete the item yourself.

After doing some investigation, it appears the tool might be flagging some things incorrectly in the following pattern:
A number of items are made from the same stack of looted or crafted components. *One* of those items (all items now having different object IDs) gets duped. The components the duped item was made with are now treated as illegitimate, and all the "sister items" made from the same stack of components get flagged.

Hello

It's a scandal, I am an honest player since 2011 I will find myself without any adk and my weapons will surely be deleted too,
Can you look at my case please.

With the exception of one item (Nice T21), my items marked as dupes are very odd. Artisan components, leather gloves, padded belt, and PSGs. The Imperial PSGs (and their components) were made by me, but I did buy a lot of resources. Ugh! None of my ADKs are flagged, though.

All in all, I'm glad the items are being removed. As much as it hurts to lose things, the integrity of the game needs to be maintained.

Thanks to Lordkator and all others involved in finding this issue, identifying the items, and deciding the outcome - it couldn't have been fun, or easy. The level of transparency is particularly appreciated!

I agree...

There are false positives and the originals are getting flagged as well...

For example you loot a nice Krayt stack, your able to craft like 4 nice weapons out that stack... so weapon A, B, C and D are original weapons and have different serials. You trade or sell one of the weapons like weapon A. Weapon A gets into the hands of the dupers they dupe it into weapon A²...

Normally weapon A² should be considered as a dupe and be deleted. I think all special components used in weapon A2 get flagged as being duped and weapon A² but also the original A and sister items B, C and D who got not duped are being considered duped now.

I'm sorry but it is IMPOSSIBLE to know what is valid in a batch of items if one was duped.

These people would borrow weapons and dupe them and often give back the dupe!

They would dupe items they were crafting with even after having sold other items they crafted with those resources.

It's not a false positive, it's reality.

Oh and quite a sad example of greed at its worst.

We're talking about the *components* the duped items were made with. Components that were legit but because of *one* final product being duped, all other products made from those components ending up being flagged. Again we seem to be observing the behavior that it doesn't just flag the original item as duped too, I'm aware it may be difficult to distinguish that. The issue is about *sister items* from the same batch of legit components being flagged only because one of them was duped at some point down the road. These items should be easily distinguishable because they share nothing with the dupe other than *legit* components.

Could you please check if that is happening, or whether we're misinterpreting the reason why some items are being flagged? For example this rifle. Neither it nor any of its components have ever left my hands, the only reasons I can imagine it being flagged is that crafted components from the same batch ended up in other rifles that got duped, or of course that one resource from one of the crafted components is affected, which is always difficult to figure out.

Please consider a server wipe at this time. A server wipe with end-stage beta would be apropriate prior to launce of 1.0, and this is certainly a reasonable way to address the duped items as well as treat everyone fairly.

Also, please consider a sub-lifetime ban on the participants. A harsh ban, yes. But we do not really have a gigantic population. Permanently culling dozens or hundreds of players may not be the best approach long term.

Just my thoughts as someone who did not participate in RMT or duping.

We have 5,000 active players a month, we're not worried about 40 people who aren't good for the community anyway.

I of all people desire a wipe but we're not ready yet, these situations actually help us improve our tools, the scale of Basilisk's dumpster fire is very useful for tools to put out fires in our 1.0 server. :)

And what if you first delete all duped items from the players that are banned? After you deleted those items, you do another scan for dupes on community? This might unflag a bunch of items? Most of their duped items where probably stored in their houses and banks...

As you can see in my 2nd post, we know what items are on the duped accounts. Deleting items on banned accounts and make a new scan will not change what we have found on active accounts. They traded weapons for other weapons with a trade back option on it. So they duped those and than used the trade back option to give the original weapon back to that person who had no clue it was duped. Some of those dupes where sold and hit the community, but some where stored in a bank or house of the dupers and where not sold to other people. So if you delete all duped items from the accounts that are involved in this ponzi sceme. There is a chance that only the original item will exist on the server.

*chance* being the key word here.

Theres also a chance they kept the real originals and gave back dupes in hopes of the dupes being deleted one day. You never know.

Eyelet is spot on here, I have a VK that was sold to Incon himself and certainly duped many many times. Infact I am told that it was duped 285 times. now because its sister that was made with the same serial number motor is also flagged. I think the problem is that it is breaking down to the component level and flagging everything with those components without cross referencing if the sister item's serial number has ever been duped because I know that it has not been. and I know the sub components are not duped either because I personally looted them 2 of them and crafted both myself. so only the final craft could have been duped which should be easy to check the serial number of both final crafts and see that serial x has been duped x times and serial Y has not been duped at all.

Did the griefers need to have a 3rd party program to duplicate stuff?
could they copy items from a trade window without completing the trade? (usually use trade window to show stats of an object)

From what I gather, comps could be duped from crafted items. and staff has no way to tell which comp/item was original or duped so everything gets flagged.

FYI there are 500 Million objects in Basilisk's db. The sceneobjects table alone if 633 Gigs... When I dump the entire db to JSON it consumes about 1TB of disk space for just one snapshot.

The reason we keep Basilisk alive is not just the database, without players the database is useless. How exactly would we be able to monitor 1 million+ transactions a day that happen on basilisk if it's just a database on a disk somewhere?

The wipe will come!

As we have been farming the bunker for like 6+ years, we have seen way more crafts than liquids could have possibly been farmed outside of us. We heard a lot were helmets. It was mentioned. Glad to see it caught up with them.

And who dupes Wall modules? Really? Lazy ***ks.

90%+ of the items linked to now banned accounts. Looks like they kept it in the family for the most part. Probably only a few of those actually did it or knew how to do the duping, the rest getting free duped perfect gear. Or a duped potted plant.

With the handful of duped containers for those non-banned accounts, I would suggest trying to reach out to them individually, or specifying that a container they have was duped and stuff inside it will be deleted. A buddy had a duped factory (who dupes factories anyhow), but had trouble finding out which one. A wp would be helpful.

Hello

It's a scandal, I am an honest player since 2011 I will find myself without any adk and my weapons will surely be deleted too,
Can you look at my case please.

All my fortune is made thanks to a single sale made with SIRE,

Thank you

If you bought the duped adk your weapon will still be left according to what they said. You will be out the money for the adk however. If you have been playing since 11, you should have your own adk a long time ago from vet rewards.

He said if they leave the duped items in game it will corrupt the code and destabilize the server (or something to that effect). Get rid of all of it. Most important keep the people that were involved out of the game even 1.0+. No more VPNs to hide behind either.

I offer this will all sincerity and humility:

If you are truly not worried about the impact this may have (is having) on your player base, you would be well advised to seek advise from others in customer service/communications industries. I have a lot of contact with a couple of these folks who either play or have played this and other MMOs. Some outcomes of the decisions being made have potential serious long-term consequences that do not appear to be factored in, at least from visible indicators.

Again, I offer this with humility, as someone in a customer service industry with contacts as mentioned. No offense or hostile criticism intended.

This is a very important point that has wide reaching impacts. I completely understand flagging and deleting items (be they finished crafts or components) that were actually duped. But to also delete any other items that were legitimately crafted from non-duped components creates a broad ripple effect of tons of items being deleted from many players who never did anything wrong. It would be great to distinguish between the legit and duped items and limit the impact to only the duped items. Otherwise there are many innocent players who will lose many millions of credits even though they only crafted legit items or bought items they had no reason to doubt were completely legit.

They duped/cloned for yearS so why banned them. (Instead, use them).
Exactly, fix the breach with a normal patch and Devs can spy what they do and see if there is another breach...
it's a Beta server no ?

This is a test server. Always has been. Always will be. Customer service isn't really a concern. This isn't a business.

So they tested breach ... we should thank them, no ? logical ?
After all nothing to loose SWGEMU "isn't a business".

I don't want to defend dupers, but you must be logical all the way or Basilisk isn't a BETA server anymore (stop to be a long time ago), like I say for years !!!
For devs, their baby is always a beta (can be improved, less bug, more stability etc ...) it's why there is a reasonable dead line ...
Like parents with kids :) There is majority age. Nothing bad it's human.
Basilisk and SWGemu is better than many other games, more stable than the original (it wasn't a beta on live), and less Buggy.
SWGemu team made/make a amazing great game. The more you like something the more painful it is when someone breaks it. It's why this clone war has hurt so much.

For players like me who started 3 or 4 years ago, unlike the older ones who experienced wipes and resets, the notion of Beta doesn't fit at all. Without doubt a question of point of view.

60K items where duped and 54K items are on the banned accounts. Wouldn't it be interesting to test out to delete all items duped items first on the accounts of the banned and rescan the remaining 6K items how they will be flagged when you delete the 54K items first?

The 54K duped items on the account of the banned can be considered 100% duped
Items crafted by the banned that are on the dupe list can be considered 100% duped

You can still flag the remaining 6K items, but you can't ignore the fact it would be an interesting test to see if they still popup as being duped. I know for a fact that several of these remaining items are 100% legit and show up as a false positive because a sister items was duped. The admins can still decide on a later date to delete or to save those items.

The problem is the way they duped caused these items are invalid under the hood, the items ended up sharing child objects in a way the code was never designed to handle. We will be dealing with server instability and very strange behaviors. As an example some of the weapons they cloned had ADK on it and if they made 5 dupes there would only be one single ADK, as soon as someone deleted the weapon they would get the ADK deed and the other weapons would be in an invalid state. It’s not safe to keep these invalid items on the server.

Also, deleting the banned accounts items first will not change the fact that an item was duped! It either was duped it wasn’t and it being on a banned account had nothing to do with it.

And you are not correct in your logic, there is no way the “sister” items are 100% legit, we can not prove it with the data we have and we know for a fact they duped many things that people “loaned” them and did not return the original to the person who loaned it to them.

I mean, these objects have been around for years. This is nothing new. The server seems pretty stable from a player's perspective.

What are the consequences of an item being in an "invalid state"? Would it break for the player? Get deleted? Not take a new ADK? I only had a couple flagged items, nothing of consequence, but from the perspective of a someone who might be losing their "end game" weapon I'm sure they'd rather have a chance of their weapon becoming "unstable" then having it deleted.

I guess I'm struggling to see how it's "not safe to keep these invalid items on the server" if they have been here for years and years.

Ever work with a database that has tables with a messed up seed in the auto-generated primary key field? You see some really weird stuff and after any amount of time, you get issues with things that should be unique that are no longer unique.
Also, just because we have had a level of player-accepted stability or instability for years does not mean we will never reach a point where it becomes unacceptable and a hindrance to further development of the project.

Edit for clarification - I'm not suggesting that there is a primary key issue in the database. I was using that scenario as an example of how when records are supposed to be unique, but then they are no longer unique, you can get some big issues in the database.

When your tool is flagging items as duped that are made with the same factory run of *crafted components* where a single one of those components got duped on a completely separate account, then your tool does not meet the specification of correctly detecting duped items. It needs more time and additional information taken into account to even work right.

Trust me it is no where near that simple in implementation, it's 1,300 lines of code just for the part that flags the items. I appreciate the complexities are not obvious, but we have spent a lot of time looking at the edge cases here.

I will not go into the details of the exploit, however there were a number of "artifacts" that could be used as a seed.

The system that does the tagging has 8 separate phases that unpack each level of detail to match items, not just a simple s/n counter.

If we just sorted based on s/n's we would have flagged 100 million items.

That said when you do see a s/n with thousands of copies and its a loot item not a manufactured item, pretty clear what happened there.

No, I'm actually very smart. Probably smarter than you. All the players who were banned didn't sell things for money. I'm talking about duping not cashing in. Your straw man didn't work.

And I'm not playing devil's advocate. I'm exposing the double standard. That it's ok to waste time on bad people, but its not ok to waste time on good people.

If it truly is just a test server then all players who did not sell things for $$$ should be let back in immediately so that they can continue to expose more bugs/flaws. If it's just a test server then why are testers who exploit banned? Nothing matters right? Or does it?

Can't have it both ways.

I can say all this because it's the Internet. And I'm smart enough to capitalize the "I" in "Internet," because that's just how smart I am, clearly.

How does it matter when it's so obviously wrong? It does not do the job it's supposed to do. It's close, but not quite yet. Please spend some more time polishing it until it's actually correct. It would be such a waste to spend months on something and then have the results be half-assed. It's really not missing much, but it is missing a significant part.

I have items flagged from the same factory run of components that contain *no* looted items btw.

Contact support if you think it's wrong, give them OID's. But are you sure every single resource you used was clean? Because they duped everything including resource crates and wall modules. Its crazy.

I appreciate you're upset, many people are, but saying the system doesn't do what it's supposed to do when you don't know the entire extent of what happened is not helpful.

I've been "polishing" this for months using TC-Prime, you all thought it was down but instead, I built code that allowed me to keep it up for testing and later just for staff.

I've done 100's of spot checks, even since the marking I've had outreach and thus far not found any item that should not have been tagged. I have however found net-new ones that should be. The program that does the audit is fairly conservative, I know it doesn't feel that way to you but they duped an incredible amount of items, I have another log I'm looking through where I found even more ADK's they duped but because of the way they did it the audit did not find them.

I don't know how to help you with your intuition that its not working, when all the data we look at with CSR's and others shows it actually is working as intended.

Well I know they duped my crafted components like advanced rifle barrels, because one of the names on the banned list asked me for a set of WS comps a while ago. It is reasonable to assume that a lot of my weapons all over the server are being flagged because they were made with comps from the same factory run.

So far I have just one low value item marked as duped which was self made using, I thought, self harvested or hunted resources and self manufactured components. However, it's possible I did purchase one of the resources but I've no way of knowing which.

Although none of my resources are currently marked as duped I'm concerned that I may have bought and used some that were. I'm wondering if it's possible that with a further round of checks resources could be marked as duped some time in the future?

And re the possible deletion of placed structures, can we be sure that we'll receive an email if any are duped and would that show on the structure's status?

This is a test server. Always has been. Always will be. Customer service isn't really a concern. This isn't a business.

The test server part seems irrelevant -- we all know that, and saying it does not address my point in any way; but as to the "not a business" assertion, a business may be defined as "any project with which one is concerned; a person, partnership, or corporation engaged in... a service; that with which someone is seriously concerned; a project."

So yes, it is a business.

And customer service is absolutely a concern. Thus the presence of CSR/Customer Service Representatives.

But all that aside, I was just making an observation with my personal recommendation based on "the buzz" from other players. I assume a server wipe with terminal beta (or multiple final betas) will happen before final launch. This seems like a good time for that, from my perspective. Ultimately, the developers know what they want from a wipe and terminal beta, and I am not privy to that information. Please consider my wipe suggestion in that light.

And when I have checked the number of people logged in, it has been down more than the 40/5000ths that would be a direct hit from the banned accounts. Maybe the fallout is short-term, and admittedly my data is limited and anecdotal. Either way, treating your customers in a way that promotes loyalty is a basic business tenet. And my hope is to promote that being giving an extra modicum of consideration.

Also, the mention of leaving cheaters in the game so you can follow them and see how much more cheating they come up with may have been offered sincerely or sarcastically, but that does have merit. In fact, add the most clever offenders to the dev team, a la FBI, to hunt for weaknesses in the system.

But when the 1.0 launch occurs, give them a generous less-than-forever-ban as the price for their transgressions.

As to letting the cheaters back in to discover more exploits would not work with this group. Please consider the points below.
1) These cheaters have known these exploits for possibly years and never said anything to the dev team. They would make terrible testers. What good is a tester that never reports findings?
2) The SWGEmu development team is all volunteer and do not have time to monitor cheaters.
3) But if they do monitor (a.k.a. babysit) cheaters, it is at the cost of spending time on the existing items on the development punch list.

Look, the users that were caught using an exploit to duplicate items actually set the project back in dev time due to not reporting their findings. They have been more of a hindrance than a help. I don't want them back for that reason alone.

See definition of business, above.

Businesses exist for other enterprises beyond profit. Perhaps that is where you become confused. They may, as does SWGEmu, exist to accomplish some non-monetary purpose. Being "lucrative" is simply not essential to the definition of a business.

But also, as we all know, SWGEmu does take in money as an essential part of its enterprise. The principles are simply proscribed from being the ones who profit from the income.

Oh im not confused ,the money they get from donations are for paying the play servers and the forum servers and the log-in servers , the staff dont take salaries cause they know the day they do that they put the whole project at risk of shut-down and staff may end up under legal prosecutions , we dont want that to happen

If it truly is just a test server then all players who did not sell things for $$$ should be let back in immediately so that they can continue to expose more bugs/flaws. If it's just a test server then why are testers who exploit banned? Nothing matters right? Or does it?

Can't have it both ways.

This is a foolish way of looking at this situation. These people had no intentions of "exposing more bugs" which is why a system to detect duping had to be developed in the first place.

No, I'm actually very smart. Probably smarter than you.

Once again, if it's "just a test server" then their intention does not matter. They are nothing more than ants to a scientist.

If you think that "it's more than just a test server", then we might have something to discuss.

Your definition of this server is entirely irrelevant; the ToS is quite clear on exploiting and the associated punishments. The fact of the matter is, nothing of value was lost when those names hit the front page.

You know reading this threads, it is a torture for the community.

@WalkingCarpet
A company registered in hungary doesn't not at all need to comply with the American definition of business. And even if it was an American registered project, there is a strong jurisprudence that would prevent this type of non-profitable community project to be a business.
I'm answering you because... If you weren't able to convince the "customer" and put an halt to his complaint, I'm going to fail too. Its on you :P

But now is not the time of dispute. We really must pull all our effort into preserving the community we loved. I understand that the dev had no choice, but the revelation of this clone war is the greater danged we have encountered since the project begun.

Changing subject:
The problem with cheaters is that you assume that they will stay and help the devs while from what I understand they were making/ spending real life money with this game. I don't know, but I feel like they don't have the culture to help a charity.
You know, our developpers are unpaid.. Some of the cheaters who started this however, they were in the practice of converting exploit for both real life money and getting a good reputation on the game for their friends..

@Wulfang: Thanks for the warning ! I'll go check if our guild Jedi crafting room is in the clear or not. My LS are good though, I crafted most of them 2 years ago using our room.

Businesses are not all for the purpose of making money. Businesses can be for other things besides making money. Making money is not an essential component in the definition of a business.

Businesses don't have to pay their workers. We call this "volunteering."

Business don't have to make profits. We call these sorts of businesses (cleverly enough) "not-for-profit" and "non-profit." In these settings, the monies collected, if any, are used to further the purpose of the business, and the purpose of said business (obviously) is not profit.

Either way, if the business has customers (i.e., people, partnerships, corporations who receive goods or services from the business), customer service should be addressed, as it is in SWGEmu by CSRs.

No trade (in yellow) doesn't mean it was duped. I don't have a jedi but I imagine it's no trade either because LS have always been no trade and it just says it now, or you have an ADK on it making it no trade.

It's not duped* unless it's red text and says it's duped.

And I'm not playing devil's advocate. I'm exposing the double standard. That it's ok to waste time on bad people, but its not ok to waste time on good people.

Keep the cheaters banned. They caused quite enough chaos for the community alrdy.
Dont need them to find gamebreaking bugs either.

Why are the tester's banned for exploiting.

Prob because they arent testing anyting. These testers didnt report anything of their dirty deeds, they got korimord, also... lining their ig duped hotpant pockets with dem sweet credits.

We need to move on.

Old guilds are strong, and if the devs can't help us recover, I'm sure that many communities can help. (within reason)
If you think you are going to lose an item, screenshot it, and may be some people in your guild will ask you extensive question on how and why you get it and provide you with minimal relief.
This is the best way to go down. As long as we can ensure that's such project isn't abused by greedy players.

But I'm really concern that we are going to lose many players over that, regardless of our capacity to provide a minimum relief. Players who got screwed tend to get pissed off, give up, and may be come back a year later. At this point it will be too late for any type of compensation.
And its not easy to grow our population. I sometime try to recruit player on SWTOR... Its not easy. We are playing an old game, in order to play you need to know about the game and have the discs.
In 5-10 years, if computers all switch to Windows ARM, Linux ARM, less and less new players will be able to play. (Unless Windows ARM does a hell of job at emulating Intel-based computer. But I do know virtual machine and emulation, and when you need to emulate a certain hardware in order to virtualize one OS, it never looks good. However SWG is an old game. )

We need to move on, the Clone War doesn't change the "legality" of the project. The devs took measure to prevent it. Even so I don't understand the points some are trying to make.

What we need now: good news... Is JtL back on track? I was lurking on another thread :P
With atmospheric landing like in the last month of SWG NGE? <3. (I know its asking a lot lol)

I am unsure if this was intentional, I haven't been able to find anything about, but after the restart this morning 2/5 items I had that were flagged with red text no longer have the red text. They still have the yellow "no trade" but the other text is gone.

i have to advocate that it is better that the method was found out.
my follow up comment is that , i think the exploiters IP addresses all need to be logged , and added to EOS for new AI and algorithim builds.

EOS might have more of a value than one may think, and probably should be copyrighted and IP protected if you continue to work on it.

edited to add that i think after adding all affected IP addresses to EOS , then they can create new characters from scratch.

nothing saved. names banned.

most won't return, but some will correct their behavior.

the dark side can be lucrative, and short sighted, but without this behavior , we wouldn't need the light side to correct it.
