Notice: In Game Mail Expiration - 3/30/2016

Similar to the mail purge that happened before JTL's release on live, we are taking measures to combat an ever growing volume of in-game mail on Basilisk.

Beginning with publish 8 we will be enabling a system to expire (delete) old mail. Instead of a one-time purge like happened on live, mail will be checked and expired during each server startup. The age at which a mail will be eligible for expiration is set at 6 months (the same age used on live during the mail purge).

Due to the sheer volume of mails on Basilisk, all old mail will not expire right away. We've put a throttle in place and only so many mails will expire with each server start. It will likely be some time before Basilisk expires all of it's old mail. Just know that any mail older than 6 months might disappear along with any server restart. There is no predictable order to which all the old mail will expire.

Why are we announcing this now? We felt that many of you might have older in game mails that you would like to hang on to. We're giving you this heads up so that you can take steps prior to the publish to save any info contained in old mail that you might want to keep.

You know what to do...

This command will save your mails to a text file.

/mailsave

This.

It works and allows you to save important email for as long as you want and even past the end of Basilisk in the future.

*does his best Rom imitation* Dooooes... thismeanPublish8iscomingsoon? :p

Edit: If I do a mailsave containing mails I've already saved, I presume it either ignores those mails or overwrites them, but does not under any circumstance duplicate them? It did seem to be saving them by message ID, which would suggest that I have nothing to worry about, but...

Speaking of which, I don't know if you can control this, but it might be nice if the file name included the subject. I found out the hard way that when you've got 240 vendor/bank/maintenance messages and only about a dozen messages you might conceivably want to keep, you have absolutely no easy way of knowing what's what post-save. :o

There are some emails I would like to keep. I assume forwarding them to myself will reset the timer?

Also, off topic, but is that the woman's real hair/hairline? Her eyebrows and head hair are almost touching.

.

It should, yes.

(Or just use the aforementioned /mailsave method , for out-of-game archiving)
