SWGEmu Web & Database Server Upgrade 05/16/11

To further improve our services, it was originally planned to upgrade our SWGEmu Web & Database Server to a more powerful machine. However, we just discovered that we can get a big memory upgrade for free, so for now we are upgrading from 2GB DDR2 RAM to 8GB DDR2 RAM.

A brief summary:

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/2726/bwserver4.png

These changes mean a number of things:
SWGEmu Web & Database Server performance should improve and we hope to reduce or maybe even eliminate these frequent periods of lag and cut outs of our Forum and other SWGEmu web services.

SWGEmu Website, Forum and Database will experience a short period of downtime (24 hours max). This downtime will allow the host to upgrade SWGEmu Web & Database Server, have it tested and ready.

This means website, forums, Wiki and Mantis will be unavailable.
IRC and our server in Denver (Liberator and TC: Nova) shouldn't be affected by this.
Please note that no new accounts can be created or old accounts reactivated during this downtime.

When did this happen:

This was scheduled to happen on Monday, May 16, 2011

Server was taken offline at 10:25AM CET, upgraded and it was already up and running at 10:35AM CET.

Wait so the website and the db were running on a 2GB system?

8GB won't hurt. :D

I can tell you guys this. The guild EoK, (EoK has many different names depending upon the game, but will always have guild names that start with EoK.) We have found out about this and are coming in droves. We are a 15 year old guild and a lot of us love SWG and would have never left if it were not for that new system. Know we have this we are getting the message out and getting many of the old guild members back to SWG. I gave up on on line games, but know my sons have found this, here we come! Thank you for making this server!!!

Good deal! I have not really been on here as of late due to the amount of time it would take to load. Nice to see too that test is coming along nicely. cheers! :D

Weird....even with the upgrade it seemed like before to be having loading troubles...

There was 92 people online.... Now with more than that..120+...it is working well again.

Thought it was on my end but other websites loaded with no problems.... weird.

For some reason forum XP has been re-enabled, we were told that it was the cause of server lag. I know we added more memory, but from the looks of things, XP is still messing things up.

I am encountering performance issues similar to robpickles since the reintroduction of the forum xp system. Of course, a server upgrade like this one is a good step and might ease the performance effects a bit, but I have expressed my doubts of the purpose of such a forum xp system in the according thread here (http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10942).
