Sounds like fun. Does it matter where the fish are caught? I'm just wondering what planets have the largest fish :<)

I never fished back on live so this is new and fun to me. Questions though. My chum bait has a quantity of 1 - 7 or so and when you drag it to the rod, the whole thing disappears. Is that a bug or should only 1 quantity so on the rod and not the whole thing. I didn't see a way to split the chum into single quantities. Largest fish I got so far was a medium 1.07 size.

That is a bug it will only show the 1 even though you loaded more but the usage is correct. You will be able to keep fishing until all baits in the jar are used up.
The way to check that is to count how many times you have to re-bait. It should equal the amount of baits that were in the jar.

Glad you are showing an interest and good luck

You can also check by looking inside the rod. The fishing rod opens up just like a backpack or container (use the radial menu and select "open"). Once you've opened the fishing rod, you should see the correct amount of bait. This is particularly useful if you're starting to fish, but can't remember how much bait is left on your pole.

Thanks for info. I did see the correct amount in the rod, but it just didn't seem like it last as long as when you put them in one at a time because it obvious never prompts you for it once its saved in the rod. I have to check again but I don't ever remember it being lost and replaced when its in the rod. I'm not finding many big fish out here. What's the largest everyone found so far?? Just wanna know if I'm even close to it. Mine is 1.11m I believe.

I caught a 1.61m Striped Fish some time ago it's hanging in the Fishing Hut. The size seems to be completely random. I would say any fish above a meter in length has a chance to win. There may be larger ones out there, I don't know.
Anyway
Have fun and good luck

The instructions say to keep 2 fish, in case of a tie-breaker. Should we register both fish tomorrow?

Also, are we simply offering our fish to the vendor? Do you need an e-mail from us once we've registered the fish?

Good question, yes we will register the two largest fish you caught. Deedia and I will be available at the 'FISHING HUT' or online throughout the day
but definitely between 3:00PM and 4:00 PM, the last hour of registration. If we are not at the Fishing Hut but online send a tell. I have a list of all participants
and we will ask you to put the two fish and the qualifying fishing pole into a trade window from which we will record the results. Remember that the fish CAN NOT
be filleted.

See you tomorrow

Hannibal

Wow! It came down to a 0.01m difference, in the tie-breaker!

I hope we do another fishing tournament again. This was a lot of fun.

ekimocyc
02-24-2014, 01:43 AM
lol i know that was crazy. though the next time there should to be tier system tournament. one tier for those without scout. then a tier for those with master scout orxxx 4 in camping. and a tier for the master rangers.

igneel is a master ranger master rifleman also.

was fun spending my game time fishing for those 2 fish to win lol. i wonder if 3.22m is the max size?

Hannibal
02-24-2014, 02:17 AM
Yeah, I figured that the scouting skills modified the fish length, but I didn't realize it had such a strong effect. Definitely need different "classes" in the tournament: novice scout, master scout, etc.

That 3.22m fish was the largest one I ever caught. I was curious how close I was to the max, so I decided to look through the code. I don't have much experience with that programming syntax, but I think that the max size is 3.25m, but that's only possible with a perfect (100-quality) pole and 8 boxes in the wilderness survival tree (4 in scout & 4 in ranger).

ekimocyc
02-24-2014, 02:19 AM
wonder if tapes could help you get that size? max out the skill mods.

Hannibal

wonder if tapes could help you get that size? max out the skill mods.

That was always my assumption, so I built two +25 foraging suits. Unfortunately, the code doesn't seem to use the foraging skill directly.

Once you've caught a fish, the system initializes the "base_length" of the fish. [I think the max base length is 0.4m, but I'm still having trouble with interpreting that section of the code.]
It then determines your "skill_factor", by counting the number of boxes in the wilderness survival tree. So, a x4xx ranger would have skill_factor = 8.
Apparently your fishing pole has a (very) small contribution to fish length. So, it computes a pole_factor=(1+pole_quality/25)/100. (pole_quality=100 => pole_factor=0.05).
The fish length is computed as fish_length=random(base_length*skill_factor)+pole_ factor.

Surprisingly, the code never directly queries the "foraging" skill. It appears that foraging SEAs are useless in fishing.

Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer, so I may have made a mistake. If you want to check for yourself, see FishingCode (http://review.swgemu.com:8080/gitweb?p=Core3.git;a=blob;f=MMOCoreORB/src/server/zone/managers/minigames/FishingManagerImplementation.cpp;h=f33699a1c1efaf0 9646f58770a9bd35f409f9eb0;hb=643cc1cf74a1fa4c9afbd 6a50445a5a65c2c3cea)

Edit: The variables listed above were renamed for clarity (base_length, skill_factor, etc.). If you're looking through the code, you'll see different variables listed.

i was wondering about camping mods.

Hannibal
02-24-2014, 04:22 AM
Oh. I never even knew that camping mods existed.

ekimocyc
02-24-2014, 12:55 PM
i am not sure either can't remember if i ever saw any i think i have. there are skill mods for just about any skill you can acquire. so i assume there would be camping skill mods.

I'm probably the last dev to touch the fishing code, though I didn't write it originally. Hannibal's interpretation is correct. Fishing doesn't use the foraging skill directly which means SEA's won't help.

If anyone can find some evidence that foraging SEAs helped in live, we can get a bug report to change it.

Being an avid fan of Fishing myself, and always up for a good 'research challenge', i looked...here:

http://www.swgemu.com/archive/scrapbookv51/data/20070126182131/

...and here:

http://www.swgemu.com/archive/scrapbookv51/data/20071216103635/guides_076.html

... And see no [official] mention of Foraging SEA's having any known effect on Fishing.

Future Server idea perhaps though? (i remember during post-NGE era, the 'Luck' stat helped a bit) .

i was talking about camping sea's NOT forageing. if the camping mod has something to do with fish size and if you have camping sea's like camping +20 does that help?

The camping mod doesn't apply (which doesn't surprise me, honestly).

Srousseau
10-25-2014, 04:05 AM
i assume that they required to use a certain rod with a certain serial number i'm assuming since they required all that you couldnt just give another fish that was caught in the past...
