I have absolutely no reason to disbelieve this.  I'm fairly certain that LA forced playable Jedi on Koster, and that playable Jedi were not part of the original design for the game.

LA is about the benjamins, they're marketing asshats, they have a long history of putting crap in a box with "Star Wars" on it and it sells.

Don't disbelieve it, it's truth. The Jedi were pushed into the game against the wishes of the main designers at launch. They wanted Jedi to be NPC's, but LA's marketing department pressured them.

I've had that confirmed to me personally from people who worked there at launch.

"You can always count on players to find the shortest route to the cheese." -- Musashi

That woudl explain a lot, if true. It would explain why Raph, who did such a good job of basic design, left this huge mess in the middle of his game. I always thought he'd have realized it would be a problem, and it seems looking back on it that he probably did, but had no choice. The whole Jedi thing seems so decidedly un-Koster-like that I always thought it strange.

I have debunked this rumor at least a dozen times, but I guess I will do it again.

Tiggs did NOT write that post - I did. My SOE forum handle is DoctorGriggs and I was a former Doctor Correspondent.I played a character on Gorath named Griggs Carnacious who was a Doctor/CM and I lead the one of the top Rebelguilds on the server, <CRIM> Crimson Legion, and eventually went Imperial and led the top Imperial guild on the server, <DF> Dark Forces.

The city I mention in that post, Maelstrom, was an Imperial city on Corellia (Gorath) run by a guild called <ISO>.

I think that post was a good portrayal of what I was feeling at the time not long after I quit the game. I felt let down, betrayed, and frustrated with how things were going.

Hope even though it is not really relevant anymore that reading it gives you guys a moment to reflect on how amazing a game this was - not so much from the gameplay perspective as it was from the community and enjoyment perspective.

SWG had a FRACTION of the content WoW has, yet there were so many nights you could log into SWG, just chill, PvP, do whatever and it was a good time.

If you have any doubt that I did write this you can feel free to hit the SOE Gorath boards - a lot of people there will in fact vouch for it. It was posted under my Jedi's account, Astazi.

Take care,

--Griggs

Yes. I would say that here on MMORPG.com, where a favorite pastime is the deconstruction and endless post-mortem analysis of what happened at SOE Austin, it matters a great deal.  Tiggs didn't make this post and therefore, this post could not have been part of the calculus in the decision to let her go.

You're right though, it's a great post which strikes at the truth - at least the way many  veterans see it.

I remember reading this post on the forums... we were all anxiously awaiting this "big change" to go onto the test server when this post blew the lid off of the whole thing and had the mods (Garva specifically... was an exciting time to get forum banned lol) and devs running around like madmen lol.   I thought I remembered when I first read it here that it wasn't tiggs..

Tiggs went to work for turbine BTW.  I met her as a GM in Lotro during alpha testing there.

p.s. Why not come out with a damn classic server allready? I'm tired of waiting on the emu's lol.

Tiggs left turbine for hellgate. Where you around for the cbs article? Poor Smed lol. They couldnt delete any posts because the guy from cbs sent an e-mail saying he'd would be watching the forums to see if mods were trying to silence complaints..and wouldnt ya know it...that was the night the server pop numbers got posted. Totally screwed lol. It was like all the planets aligned that night.

Haha I remember that.  I was actually able to find that post showing the server numbers a few months ago, I ran a NeoTrace on the IPs and they all matched, it was indeed accurate.  Sad part is, the server population on a Friday night was just over 10,000!!!!!!!!

That's right fanbois...  10,000 people logged on.  Pitiful.

Whoever "Tiggs" is, he was right about the jedi grind.  One of my brothers use to play SWG, and we use to hunt together (collect resources and stuff, I was a ranger), and other players use to hunt with us to, that we randomly crossed paths with.  After it was discovered you could grind your way to jedi, my brother dissapeared, and most everyone else I communicated ingame with dissapeared too.  They were all grinding.

Oh, grinding also ruined the market.  Players kept dumping grinding material into the market for pennies on the dollar.

Making an alpha class in an MMORPG is always going to be a failure. Who would NOT want to play the dominant class? Nerfing Jedi was wrong too. We want Jedi to be like canon and strong. SOE should have NEVER allowed player Jedi. To my understanding this was a HUGE internal debate before the game went live, with LucasArts weighing in to push Jedi. BIG mistake. Fact is the game had MORE paying subscribers before there were Jedi. Fact - after DOT's (often pointed out by Jedi as the true death of the game) the game had even LESS subscribers. I hardly think all those people quit because DOT's were nerfed Point? People got sick of Jedi, and sick of seeing more and more of them. Less diversity among players = less fun. When SOE devoted two huge publishes all to Jedi instead of fixing other long-standing issues this was a sign of things to come. And the original holo-grind killed off a LOT of the PvP we had since so many became reclusive and devoted all their time to grinding.

This statement reflects what i said here and on the offical forums shortly after the first jedis appeared and all the checks  such as limited numbers, permadeath were thrown thru the window by playewr spam.

No game can progress with an alpha class unless ofc thats the only class with diversion aka subspecialization since all want to be uber. Its just not possible. When the few checks were removed then it opened the already about to bust flood doors.

I am hardly suprised it was LA fighting to include player jedis as the original SWG team which was mostly SoE pre beta insisted there be no jedi and then a LA representative later came out with a statement saying there would be.

Also like pointed out the population was more healthy when no jedi existed ! Most of us who quit in the first exodus  quit after the 2 publish which left us starving for fixes and focusing purely on jedis

Just so you know.. he was actually a she.

Its sad to see what happened to this game and like what many others have already posted it just goes to show you the impact this game had on many from the day it first came out. LMFAO.. I remember it being a pain in the ass to kill a freakin nuna, spending hours in camps with buddies just bullshitting and gathering resources or going on long ass hikes to do missions. We ran everywhere in the beginning, no vehicles were even a thought but we loved every damn minute of it
