Welcome to the Fencing Community!

To help ease your entrance into the Fencer profession and this community please make yourself familiar with the information available in this thread. It includes two main parts, the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Popular Posts (PP).

The FAQ portion is a list of the all the questions that new (and sometimes established) Fencers ask. Each question is linked to a post that answers the question in detail. Of course you’re still welcome to ask the following questions in a brand new post, but don’t be surprised if the answer is simply a link or redirect to here.

The PP portion is a list of commonly reoccurring topics that are often thought to be new or original by someone not familiar with the forum. Many of these are actually ongoing topics that have just temporarily left the front page. While not mandatory to do so, by checking to see if the topic you would like to begin anew is already established you help to keep the board from getting cluttered, and allow the genuinely new topics to stay on the front page where they can get attention. Like the FAQs, the PPs all have links to the appropriate thread or threads.

If you don’t find what you are looking for here, you might note that there is also a Search feature at the bottom of the forum. The basic version is not very useful, but the Advanced Search is quite effective if used properly. You can narrow your search to a forum and/or an author, include and/or exclude key words in the body or subject, and a few other things to improve your results. Used intelligently Advanced Search is definitely your friend. It can keep you from looking foolish by not being the 5th person to ask the exact same question that had already been explained in great detail less than 24 hours ago.

The following list and links will change as the relevant information changes. I’ll do my best to keep them as up to date as possible. If a link goes bad for some reason, please PM me and I’ll get it fixed ASAP.

*TEMPORARY NOTICE: I am beginning this with all links going right back to the basic Fencer page just to get it posted, and make sure my links even work. It may take me a few days to get all of these finished and directed to the appropriate locations. For the time being, only the links preceeded with an Asterisk (*) have been completed.
