Mounts and Vehicle Speeds by Ioan |
|
Much talk has been generated about the speeds of mounts and vehicles. It tends to center around what "feels" the fastest, or what mount/vehicle won a race. I didn't think that was good enough, so I began a research project.
I've measured the speed of various mounts and vehicles, over flat ground on a straight-line course. Below, are the summarized results. Note that speeds are expressed in meters per minute.
I've listed the mounts by their general type, because each species within a given type perform in the same way. For example, a Cu pa moves in the same was as does the Wasteland Cu pa.
Vehicles
1000 (fast), 500 (slow): AV-21, Speederbike Swoop
882 (fast), 440 (slow): Speederbike, Flashspeeder
765 (fast), 383 (slow): X34, XP-38, V-35, AB-1 Landspeeders
647 (fast), 323 (slow): X31 Landspeeder
Mounts, and People
Galloping
679: Carrion Spat, Kaadu, Varactyl
620: Cu pa
576: Bol, Dewback
556: Person (burst run)
531: Bantha
528: Person With Ranged Weapon (burst run)
502: Brackaset, Falumpaset, Humbaba
Running
501: Varactyl
443: Bol, Brackaset, Carrion Spat, Dewback, Falumpaset, Humbaba, Kaadu
412: Bantha
402: Cu pa
318: Person
285: Person With Ranged Weapon
Walking
317: Varactyl
146: Carrion Spat, Kaadu
100: Brackaset, Falumpaset, Humbaba
91: Person
82: Person With Ranged Weapon
81: Cu pa
56: Bol, Dewback
46: Bantha
Notice that a fast galloper isn't necessarily going to be a fast runner, or walker.
An example of how to put this data to use would be in the planning of a caravan event. In a caravan, you want the group to move at a rate that doesn't feel too slow, but that is slow enough to allow the scouts to comfortably run ahead. If the leader were to ride a walking Carrion Spat, Kaadu, Humbaba, Brackaset, or Falumpaset, then scouts can ride their choice of scout mounts.

Thats cool. I was wondering how do you think a jetpack would measure up or a barc?
Can you give a guesstimate?
