    Version 1.2-Removed XP values. Didn't like spoiling it for everyone. Omitted Resource Values for Master/Expert Prints. Added FAQ section to end of Guide. Guide assumes you know how to craft objects

    So you want to be a Droid Engineer?

    The Droid Engineering Profession is full of challenge. It requires moderate amounts of resources, all inorganic. Ores, Chems, and Metals are the predominant resources used in DE (Droid Engineer). The Droids have many uses, most of which are unknown at this time. The Profession is largely untested (I'd venture to say less then 10 people with Novice, and even less with 3/4th teir boxes), and as such is rediculed with bugs. An informative post about the current state of Droid Engineering can be found here: http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/betaswg/Forum6/HTML/003396.html

    Additionally, as with all elite professions, this one takes dedication, time, resources, and above all patience. As of now, you are unable to sell ANY droids you craft, and as such your funds will be extremely limited. With that said, Let's begin!

    After training Novice Droid Engineer, you're welcomed with a few new schematics:

    Droid Storage Module, Level I Medical Module, Level I Data Storage Module, Level I Storage Module, Level I Droid Armor Module, and MSE-6 "Mouse" Droid.

    As such, your beginning options are quite limited, Mostly you'll be making Mouse droids with modules. Crafting these are tedius work, as each droid requires 53 resources, in addition to the resources you use for a module, if you desire. I highly reccomend using the modules, as they add Droid Crafting XP for building them, Usage XP for using them in the droid, and provide functionality to the droid. A mouse droid with no components will net you 140 Droid Crafting Experience, Using a Medical Module increases that experience to 196 (45 For the Module, 11 Usage Experience). This means 52 Mouse Droids to the next level of Blueprints, which is the skillbox I reccomend. A listing of Modules and Droids follows.

    Level I Medical Unit (Complexity: 15): 5 Non-Ferrous Metal, 15 Copper, 2 Inert Gas:: 22 Total

    Level I Data Module (Complexity: 15): 5 Copper, 3 Inert Gas, 3 Low Grade ore, 5 Metal::16 Total

    Level I Storage Unit (Complexity: 15): 5 Steel, 2 Low Grade Ore, 3 Inert Gas, 5 Metal::15 Total

    MSE-6 "Mouse" Droid(Complexity: 15): 53 Metal, 10 Chemical::63 Total

    The Intermediate Droid Blueprints Skill adds droids that require more resources, thus giving more experience per combine. Intermediate Droid Blueprints adds the R5 Droid, the WED-Treadwell Droid, the DZ-70 Fugitive Tracker Droid, and the MSE-6 "Mouse" Droid ADVANCED. The ADVANCED series of droids use more components for the combine, keeping overall resource costs close, but giving more Experience in the way of Usage XP. For example, the ADVANCED MSE Droid uses a Droid Motive System and a Sensor Package, and requires only 27 Metal and 18 Chemical, in addition to opening an additional slot for a Module, an Armor Component slot, plus a Personality Chip slot. R5 Droids are crafting stations for Food and Chemical Types, WED-Treadwell Droids are General Item crafting stations, and DZ-70 Fugitive Tracker Droids are capable of attacking and tanking mobs. In addition to the new droids, one also receives schematics for Droid Motive Systems, Droid Sensor Packages, Manipulator Arms, and Manipulator Arm Package Sets. Please be advised that Manipulator Arm Package sets require an extensive number of resources (In relation to other modules), and do not give ANY Droid Experience or Usage experience, thusly keeping Experience values for R5 and Treadwell Droids down. A listing of each droid and it's requirements (And requirements only, no optional modules) follows.

    Manipulator Arm: 45 Metal, 5 Chemical, 5 Low Grade Ore::55 Total

    Motive System: 32 Metal, 5 Chemical, 5 Low Grade Ore::42 Total

    Droid Sensor Package: 10 Steel, 4 Copper, 1 Metal, 2 Low Grade Ore, 5 Chemical, 2 Inert Gas::24 Total

    Manipulator Arm Package Set: 65 Metal, 18 Ferrous Metal, 15 Chemical, 60 Extrusive Ore::158 Total

    WED Tredwell[b]: 42 Metal, 20 Chemical, 15 Steel, 1 Manipulator Arm Package Set, Motive System, Sensor Package
    (Totals: 140 Metal, 45 Chemical, 25 Steel, 18 Ferrous Metal, 7 Low Grade Ore, 60 Extrusive Ore, 2 Inert Gas, 4 Copper)::301 Total

    [b]DZ-70 Fugitive Tracker Droid: 57 Metal, 15 Chemical, Motive System, Manipulator Arm, Sensor Package
    (Totals: 140 Metal, 30 Chemical, 12 Low Grade Ore, 4 Inert Gas, 10 Steel, 4 Copper, 15 Non Ferrous)::215 Total

    R5 Droid: 30 Ferrous Metal, 52 Metals, 70 Chemical, Manipulator Arm Set, Motive System, Sensor Package
    (Totals: 150 Metal, 95 Chemical, 48 Ferrous Metal, 7 Low Grade Ore, 10 Steel, 60 Extrusive Ore, 2 Inert Gas, 4 Copper)::376 Total

    MSE-6 "Mouse" Droid ADVANCED:27 Metal, 18 Chemical, 1 Motive System, 1 Sensor Package
    (Totals: 60 Metal, 28 Chemical, 10 Steel, 4 Copper, 7 Low Grade Ore, 2 Inert Gas)::111 Total

    On to Advanced Blueprints. Here you can really see the profession taking shape, as we are given access to ADVANCED models of the R5, Treadwell, and Fugitive Tracker Droid. Also, the R4 and EG-6 Droids are unlocked for use. The R4 Unit serves as a crafting station for Armor and Clothing Types. The EG-6's functionality is unknown to me at the present time, although I am assuming it can be used to recharge droids or possibly provide power for harvesters or buildings. In addition to these new droids, one also receives the schematics for Advanced Droid Motive System and Advanced Droid Frames. No droids in this box require the advanced frame, however it is probably the "Powercrafter" route to success. 150 Steel and 70 Fiberplast to build, it nets 440 Droid XP upon completion. Expect to use up a LOT of resources getting to the next box, especially if you're moving on to Expert Blueprints. As with the previous level, Manipulator Arm Package Sets do not give experience, so keep this in mind when building droids. A listing of Droids and Modules follows.

    Motive System (Complexity: 14): 32 Metal, 5 Chemical, 5 Low Grade Ore::42 Total

    Droid Brain (Complexity: 21): 14 Copper, 5 Inert Gas, 8 Siliclastic Ore, 8 Chemical, 4 Metal::39 Total

    Droid Sensor Package (Complexity: 19): 10 Steel, 4 Copper, 1 Metal, 2 Low Grade Ore, 5 Chemical, 2 Inert Gas::24 Total

    Manipulator Arm Package Set (Complexity: 15): 65 Metal, 18 Ferrous Metal, 15 Chemical, 60 Extrusive Ore::158 Total

    Advanced Droid Frame (Complexity: 15): 150 Steel, 70 Fiberplast::220 Total

    Advanced Droid Motive System (Complexity: 28): 15 Copper, 15 Metal, 3 Steel, 5 Chemical, 5 Low-Grade Ore, 1 Control Unit (Master Artisian)::

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How do I Program a Droid?

    First, summon your droid by double clicking him in your inventory. Then, use the radial menu to click "Program", followed by the command you wish to program. For example, to tell a droid to follow you, Open the radial menu, click Program, Follow Me. A ? (Question Mark) should appear over your droids head. Then type out the command which you wish to give to the droid in order for him to follow your command (IE: Droid Follow) (It helps to make a macro for the command, IE: Follow, and use this macro every time you program a droid so they all use the same command). A ! (Exclamation Point) Should appear over the droids head acknowledging that he's accepted the program. This only needs to be done once, then the droid will follow your command. Each Command must be done (Follow, Follow Target, Befriend, Group, Attack, Stay, et cetra) and acknowledged by the droid. Please note that commands are case sensitiveb] and as such Follow will not equate to follow.

    How do I get rid of Droids?

    You must program them with the "Release" command and release them into the wild. Additionally, if you have a bugged droid that only gives "Attack" and "Examine" as an option, your only option (As far as I know) is to make a new droid with an item module, summon him, and "Open" him, then place the bugged droid in his inventory. Additionaly, you can use a DZ series droid and just drag the bugged droid into his "inventory" and it will poof.

    Why Can't I make Advanced Droid Motive Systems, Adv. Droid Brains, or any of these droids?!

    You must use a Private or Public crafting station, depending on the complexity of the item you wish to build. For items with 1 to 15 Complexity, a generic tool will suffice. 16-20 requires a Specialized Tool, 21-25 requires a specialized tool and a crafting station (Public or Private), and 26 and up requires the use of a Specialized Tool and a Private Crafting station.

    Private Crafting Stations

    These are found in your home or other people's homes. An architecht should be able to construct both home and crafting station. One could also use a droid built for the specific item you wish to construct. (Assuming droid functionality with current publish)

    Power Core Unit

    These units are made by Architechts with Buildings I. They require 250 Carbonate Ore, 200 Steel, some chems, a Power Conditioner (Made by Master Artisans), a Energy Distributor (Made by Master Artisans), and possibly a Control Unit.

    What does *Low Power* Mean? or How do I recharge a droid? or What are droid batteries for?

    When a droid says *Low Power*, it means exactly that. You must craft a droid battery and place it in your inventory, then select recharge from the radial menu on the droid. One can also use the EG-6 Power Droid to recharge other droids, by programming him with the "Recharge" command (It's in the radial menu under "Program") and targetting the droid you wish to recharge.

      Someone told me that to become a master droid engineer you must also become a master artisan. Is this true? I am currently on engineering 3 and if I have to become a master artisan I am going to stop because I need to points to finish becoming a master TK.

        You dont HAVE to be a Master Artisan, but if you are not you have to know one. There are components for droids that only Master Artisans can make. The only part of Artisan that is required is the Engineer line, but once you max that out, and the Surveyer line getting your materials, and the 3rd box of Business so you can have your own vendor for your droids... You might as well be a Master Artisan.

      This guide is based on beta info, droid have no longer "innate abilities" like the R4 working as a armor crafting station.
      The system is quite simple, through the DE tech tree u can have "crafting modules" (weapons, armor and even structures) simply craft a droid with one or more of those modules and ur droid will act as a PRIVATE crafting station (very useful). As a droid engineer i ve crafted a R4 unit with a weapon and droid crafting station it works perfectly.
      Prolly one of the only thing that work decently, the probot is pathetic (800 HAM, 50 dmg max 1,5 spd) when u realize it require droid blueprints III and a master artisan. The surgical droid seems interesting but not really popular (u have to be in a camp to call a droid in the wilderness) and reserved to medic only.
      I'm actually considering throwing my DE skills away, it present no challenge (just grind no matter the ressources) U just have to collect steel and fiberplast and make advanced droid frames (440XP each). No challenge no reward, where is the fun ?

      Do you have to be a Droid Engineer to use (equip) a droid? give it commands? etc.  Is there any experience for using a droid for its intended purpose and does only a DE get that experience? If I am a Commando or Bounty Hunter, can I buy a droid from a DE and use it in combat? Can I use it at the same skill and exp as the DE?

      Thanks in advance for your response.

          Anyone can use a droid. After you get your droid deed, pick tame from the deed menu. When your droid comes out into the open. Open the droid menu, pick program. Go down the list and pick one command. After you pick the desired command, tell your droid a command for the programmed action. When you go to program the droid a "?" will appear over the droid, after you tell the droid the command a "!" will appear over the droid, that means the droid have learned the given command. Example: pick follow "?", say (NAME) follow me "!".
        To name your droid: while programing, insert the desired droid name infront of FOUR different commands. Example: (NAME) follow me, (NAME) follow target, (NAME) stay, (NAME) patrol. After 4 different commands the droid will says it name and that name will appear over the droid. NOW go back and reteach the droid the same commands WITHOUT the name in front. Why you ask? When you make hot key marcos you don't want to have 5 different sets of macros for different droid because you left their name in the command.

You select three more commands and preceed each of the commands with the droids new name. Whalla - the droid will have a new name!

        By the way - if you droid shows low power - no need to recharge it - just store it and call it again. It will come out fully charged.

      I believe all of the droids engage in melee combat.  They now can be traded and seem to be working as intended for the most part. The droid market will be good on release.

      Keep in mind DE's can only have 1 droid out at a time, and in beta they could not be traded, so much of the profession is slightly mysterious. Not to mention for the most part many droids were unable to be built due to resource shortages, and a factory bug after a patch.

      Do any of the droids have the ability to fire weapons?
