    A Guide to Creature Handling
    -Kaeus Darkstride, Ahazi Server

    Required Skills
    ---------------
To get Novice Creature Handler, you first must get Hunting IV and Exploration IV.This takes Scouting experience and what I recommend is going to a planet with lots of low mobs and run around and kill everything you can, and harvest it. I did the same for Novice Creature Handler as it requires Scouting experience.

    CH Trainer Locations
    --------------------
    Rori- in Restuss
Tatooine- Mos Espa, near the "entrance" to the city
    Talus- Nashal, behind the spaceport
Corellia- Daoba Gurfel, south of the bank
    Coronet, north of the bank
Naboo- Kaadara, next to a guild hall

    Taming
    ----------
This is how you will gain most of you pets, unless of course you buy them, and get you're first ammount of CH exp. At first you will want to find a pet that is low and is not a killer. You will also want to look for a Ferocity level of 0 so it will not attack you if you fail to tame it. Also make sure it has (baby) next to the name as that is all you can tame.

-First, I would suggest trying to maskscent when you's standing in taming range of the creature.
-Second, unwield you weapon so you dont kill it if it attacks you
-Next put on autofollow in case it moves.
    -Finally tame and wait.

You will say 3 things trying to convice the pet. As far as I have seen what the computer makes you say has no effect on the sucess of the tame so don't worry if you don't do the same thing every time.

When you get higher you will get to pets that may attack but you want to tame it because it is a good pet. If the creature has Killer:0, when you examine, if you want to keep, you can let it incapitate you and try again after you get back up. Either that or you can run outta aggro range and let it forget about you. The last option is to kill it and hope another one comes out of the lair.

    Training
    ----------
After you tame a pet. You will get the option to train it. This will give it commands that you know how to teach as you advance through Creature Handler. So to tame you...

    1. Select Train from the pets radial menu
    2. Select the action you want to train
    3. A "?" will appear prompting you for the command for that action.
    4.
-A larger "?" will appear and you will need to retrain that command
-You will gain CH exp and will see "You have taught your pet a new command," if it has learned the command successfully

Once you've taught it, you can now say that command to execute that action.
Also, once taught an action, you can retrain it without failing, but, you do not gain any more experience for that action.

    Naming you pet
    --------------
To name you're pet you must have 4 commands at least so you will need either
    -Creature Management 1
    -Creature Training 1
    -Creature Empathy 1
    to name it.

What you do is put the name before the command for 4 commands, and on the 4th, you pet will have (Name) over its head, and it is now renamed. After it is named, you can change kill for example from "Name" kill, to just kill and its name will stay the same.

    Commands
    --------
    Commands
When you click on your pet, you have access to a radial menu with the following options:
Examine - Brings up the status of your pet.
Store - Removes your pet from play.
Feed - Gives your pet food from your inventory.
Train - Tells your pet to listen for a command so you can train them or retrain them.

The following are the commands you can eventually train your pet, as you advance up the various arms of the Creature Handler tree:

Attack - tells your pet to attack your current target.
Guard - tells your pet to guard your current target, having them attack anyone that attacks that target.
Stay - tells the pet to remain in place.
Follow other - tells your pet to follow your current target.
Follow me - tells your pet to follow you.
Group - invites your pet into your current group, allowing you to see his HAM and status.
Get patrol point - adds a patrol point for your pet at its current location.
Clear patrol point - clears all patrol points for your pet.
Patrol - tells your pet to immediately begin walking the patrol points set above.
Wedge formation - tells your pet to get into a wedge formation with your other pets.
Column formation - tells your pet to get into a column formation with your other pets.
Befriend - tells your pet to accept orders from your current target.
Transfer - transfers ownership of your pet to your current target.
Release - lets your pet go back to the wild, making them untamed.
Trick1 - tells your pet to do the first trick it knows.
Trick2 - tells your pet to do the second trick it knows.

    CH Exp
    ------
To gain CH exp, you can either tame creatures, and train them all you know, then destroy them and go tame more. Or you can kill with you'r pet.
The way CH exp works while killing is the weaker the pet the more exp, so if you train a low pet, and have it attack, you will get more experience for killing. The best way to get CH exp in combat, is to train a small mob (My preferance is a Cu-Pa because of the ranged spit), join a group, and have it hit evething the group kills 1 time with its attack then make it come back by following.

    Food and Playing
    ----------------
Your pet will tell you theyre hungry or want to play.

Hungry is simple, they eat the same things you do. Have food in your inventory, open the radial menu on your pet, and select Feed. Feeding your pet helps them grown as well as regenerate damage.

Playing with your pet means having them do their tricks. What it does is relieve what amounts to battle fatigue your pet has, in addition to helping them grow. Combat also helps them grow. While pets grow in storage, they grow faster if they are out and seeing some activity, like playing, fighting, and eating. Pets that sit only in storage grow and heal at a slower rate.

Pets heal at the same rate as players and can be healed using stimpacks and other medical supplies. Some Creature Handlers advance in the medic tree to allow them to heal their own pets, but that is up to you.

    Advancement
    -----------
There are four skills to Master Creature Handler: Taming, Training, Empathy, and Management.

Advancing in Taming gives you bonuses to taming, making it easier to tame less aggressive pets, and possible to tame the more vicious or difficult ones out there.

Training gives you more commands to use as well as increases your chance in successfully training the commands you do know.

Empathy helps you get in touch with your pet and play with them. It gives you the tricks.

Management gives you the formations and helps you have more pets, as well as more out at once.

I recommend getting Empathy 1 for the simple reason of decreasing downtime by being able to play with your pets, unless you choose a non-combat route of getting CH exp.

I hope this guide helps you with the Creature Handler profession. Be sure to send me a tell ingame on the Ahazi server if ya wanna talk about anything. Im on the Ahazi server and are usually around Corellia, Coronet, but i travel to many places.

firstly youll want to go up the last skill tree in CH so you can pull 2 pets out, and then go up the first skill tree so you can tame higher level creatures..and dont worry about training your pets when you are starting,  just stop a master CH as you see one, and ask him to train your pets fully.. :) CH is a really slow start try the noob planets like tatooine, naboo, and corellia , but once you are able to handle about level 20 pets, get a BE one, and head to dathomir and kill rancors, and just send in your pet ( in my case a lvl 21 BE gurrcat) after you attack, so it isnt getting the beat from rancors. i find that enraged rancors give the best CH xp. (obviously) and i am master TK so i can take em down pretty quick, and not die as long as i am buffed good, and my armour is in good cond. also, gurrcats run insanely fast, and can ALMOST keep up with my swoop, so you dont have to keep storing and pulling them out..just find some big hunting parties and tag along, and send in your pet to get your xp.. oh, and in the geocaves, all the creatures there give good CH xp, especially droidekas..1500 xp...Oh, and if you got some ranger 0-0-1-0, you can scan for animals, therefore finding >>babies...

Whoever wrote this article is a complete dumbass.... Seriously.. I can grind CH from Novice scout in a few hours. All you do is go to Dantooine mining outpost and ask for a solo group. Get one then ask for some1 hunting big game if you can tag along and harvest.Bang you can get 900-2000exp per HARVEST AND WITH THE PERSON MOWING THE MOBS you can get 100k exp on one run out of the outpost. Mega power-leveling plus u get a split of the money they get for doing quest/mission.

The guide isn't to say that it should take 3 weeks to grind the scout requirements for CH, it is to tell newcommers to the game how they might go about being a CH. Next time wait until you have something interesting and informative to add before you garble out useless nonsense that nobody here really wants to read. Oh and I think you'll find that a few hours is a little optimistic...have you ever been to Dantooine? And besides are you that depserate to level so fast that you have to do scout in a few hours....patience my child...with it comes the ability to think and use that thing in your head some may call a brain.

Well Thankyou for your time RainbowRanger....enjoy kindergarten

You have 2 options.  If your going to be hunting animals mostly then you what a high kinetic resist as most animals melee. When your fighting humanoids it is a toss up as to whether they will be ranged or melee. If they are melee you can use your animal pet, but if they are ranged then you want a pet that is high in energy resist since that is the most common form of ranged attack for an NPC. And then you have one final decision to make: will you send your pet in to melee or have it use its ranged attack. If your going to have the pet with a ranged atttack then stick with energy resist. If your going to send the pet in then I would recommend a good energy and kinetic pet. That way he doesn't take much damage as he moves in on the mob and so that he also doesn't take much damage from the mobs 'friends' who may be shooting him as he attacks your target. Also ask the BE if he can tailor the special attacks your pet gets. If so then ask for the pet to have a knockdown special attack. As far as I can tell that is the best special attack in the game. Poison and disease are good depending on how fast you want to put the mob down. Remember you don't get exp for DoT damage. Let me know if this helped. Good hunting.

I have a giant crystal snake and make between 110-240 CH xp with each kill. I get rebel missions and move to my target, soon as they are in range i take aim and send in the pet. soon as the pet hits the first target he gets all the agro, i just shoot the ones he damages. a level 11 imp kill mission will yield me 500-700 CH xp, 1k credits, 300-600 rifle XP, 20-40 combat xp, and some faction. thats the best method for solo'ing. once i got to 2-2-1-0 on my skill tree i went with groups to Lok, Dath, and Endor. with my lvl i have low end pets that fall fast, i wait for the other CH's to send in theirs and have mine go in last. still get good xp and dont have to spend forever healing my pet after a fight. i hope this is helpful.

Yes I used stuff from other guides like the advancement part but I made it to suit what I have learned, I doubt I will be adding anything to this, besides the updates or things I learn from friends as I had to drop CH because of Skill Points. Sadly I had to get rid of my Sludge Panther I had as a novice CH =( Hope this guide is helpfull for any aspiring CH.

i found this guide to be pretty ok in helping me to get the basics down, but i wish there was a guide for the animals, i.e. showing what you need to get certain animals like a dewback or a greater sludge panther or a dewback. But besides that it is good

Is there a list somewhere of what different pets eat? My rock beetle refused any sort of harvested meat or foraged food.

Pets don't eat harvested meats. They will however eat most foraged food (they eat any food you can eat). Sometimes however you will forage up bait, which pets won't eat (and neither could you).

Vitality packs work much like repair packs for armor and weapons. It will heal up perma wounds at the cost of max condition. There is no way to heal up the second number once it's brought down. Sorry I should have made that plainer in my last post.

It is not possible.  Using heigher quality packs may recover a greater percentage of lost points, but once you use the pack, what you are left with is very permanent (unless they change this in a patch). No additional packs can be used for the same wound and nothing can be done to get the pet back to its original 100% state. I really don't like this change that Sony made at all. You work hard to get your pet and if he gets death blowed in combat he will forever be damaged.

Vitality packs cure the perma wounds on your pet. You get them from Bio Engineers.

One misconception I see about pets is that they regen as fast as players do, which is incorrect. Except for exceptional regeners, most pets will regen extremely slow (about 1/5th that of a PC or less).

Another bit of information: Pets fully mature in 5 days. Again, contrary to popular belief, feeding, playing and having your pet out doesn't make them grow faster. They grow at a set rate regardless (I tested this between two of the same species with same stats one in the data pad for 5 days and one as my hunting companion ... both matured at the same rate).

Most budding Creature Handlers will run out and tame the highest most uber thing they can find (I know I did). However to gain top exerience and crawl up the chart fast, you should have at least one solid blue con pet (just a difficulty or 2 higher then the newbie mobs). This pet will always yield you top experience (as its level is close or lower then anything you will be fighting) and you won't have to worry about cramming your XP sessions in while it's a baby. Also, if you have brought up your Marksman (or Brawler) skills and can take yellow cons, your little blue pet will give amazing XP nipping at its heels.

Oh and a misnomer about the large cats: *Most* of the large cats I've come across I can outrun in Run Burst mode. This includes Tusk Cats, Plainshunters, Sludge Panthers, Narglatches and the like. The only cat I've seen hawk me down at a full sprint was a Mottled Wrix (and a Grand Wrix) from Correlia. I've not seen all the varieties of cats I'm sure but for you budding CH's keep this in mind when you get Creature Taming 2.
