Ranger Lodge: Introduction

This zone/building acts like a hub with quests and other systems linked into it providing a meeting place, base of operations for rangers and a great place for new rangers to hang around and train up. Access to this building is restricted to Rangers only or people who are in group with a ranger.
From this building the ranger will have many options available to him making him 1: Attractive to groups and 2: A more competent hunter. Hopefully this collection of systems and content would provide a great feature that will make being a ranger and playing a ranger much more interesting and challanging past the master levels.

Expanding on the hub idea, the Ranger Lodge is the central point that links many systems together. All these systems will be covered later on in detail but include:

1.0: Ranger Lodge: The Building
2.0: ROCD (Ranger Organic Contract Database)
3:0: Hunting Permits
4:0: Jakra Lan Quest
5.0: Hunting Cabin Quest (coming soon)

Jakra Lan Story 1
Jakra Lan Story 2

In the following posts i will cover these parts in detail in a way that will hopefully correctly portray my ideas. Hope you enjoy and dont fall to sleep

NOTE: I RECENTLY MADE A WALK THROUGH VERSION OF THE RANGER LODGE USING AN FPS LEVEL EDITOR. ONLY THE FLOORS, ROOFS, WALLS, CORIDOORS AND STEPS ARE IN ATM BUT IM HAVING PROBLEMS LAUNCHING THE COMPILER SO ALL I CAN SO IS USE THE 3D VIEW IN THE EDITOR TO WALK AROUND. HOPEFULLY ONCE IVE FIXED IT (IF EVER) I CAN TAKE SCREENIES AND IF SOMEONE CAN HOST IT, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT AND WALK AROUND THE LODGE YOURSELF

1.0: Ranger Lodge: The Building

Introduction:
Like i stated earlier the Ranger Lodge is a building only accesible to rangers and people grouped with a ranger and is a base or operations and meeting place. It has many features included in its walls that make it fun and exciting and i intend to detail these accordingly but first i will detail the layout of the building.

Situation:
The situation of the Ranger Lodge should be balanced so its in a fairly accessible place but at the same time out in the back country providing the reclusive sort of feeling to it. This is hard because obviously it has to be somewhere rangers will want to travel so it has to be accessible pretty cheaply. My first option would be Endor but obviously the high cost of traveling to Endor works against it. I hate corellia and everything about it so no corellia, naboo is too packed already but a nice choice, rori is a nice choice but too far out of the way from the adventure planets i fear, talus? think again, and the cost of the adventure planets is a deterent to most new players and if your going to be using the building as a hub it needs to be a cheap place to get to.

As you can see i was having trouble thinking of a suitable place for the Ranger Lodge and ultimatly i found an idea that would work very well. The idea is that the building itself is located somewhere completly different from the planet it is on (rp wise), the only thing you see on the planet is the ranger npc and his shuttle. This ranger controls access to the building and if you choose, shuttles you to the Ranger Lodge located at an undisclosed location on an undisclosed planet. Obviously the building would be under the landscape or in an unaccessible area of the map but would apear you were traveling to an exotic and secret place.

As for the Ranger npc and shuttle i felt that Kor Vella was a good choice. It is close to the adventure planets, out of the way (lag and population wise) and looks a nice city. Obviously tell me if you have any more suitable possible locations because basically its not that important now that the main building is located elsewhere.

Layout:
The building layout has been something ive been looking at very closely. I was going for either the grand hall look or a cave sort of thing with certain alcoves and holes within the main structure to act as rooms. Due to the fact my mind was racing in all directions developing ideas for both, i decided to include them both on a main template so the developers would be able to choose one or the other easily without disturbing the main contect within the building. The result of this is that both cave and hall styles are very similar in layout but just vary in artwork and look.

Once you have taken the shuttle you will be loaded into the complex. The complex as it stand consists of various rooms, these are: (be it grand hall or cave network, youll find it easy to picture both)
The Hangar (entrance/lobby)
Hall Of Hunters
Bar
Hall Of Heros
Hunting Permit Office

Here is the floorplan ive come up with showing clearly the rooms and their situation to each other: Floor Plan

The Hangar:
First i will cover the entrance area known as the Hangar. The internal hanger has a large opening roof area (more likely fixed and never opens) leading to the outside for the shuttle to get in and out and acts as the lobby area for players to load up into, it basically sets the feeling that you are in a hidden and underground facility. This is basically a dead zone but allows access to the main rooms of the complex. Moving past this room via the corridoor you move into the Hall Of Hunters.

Hall Of Hunts:
This room is a magnificant room with a high roof filled with various pictures and trophys. The room is home to stories of great hunts and tales from the far reaches of the galaxy accesible by using the radial menus on each individual painting. The room acts as a very eye catching room aswel as a story room where rangers can read up and past magnificant hunts. This room is the first area the ranger gets to see within the complex so it must capture the whole feel of it as a magnificant and proud place. Possibly pictures on the wall of hunting zones, trophy heads of massive beasts, lots of plants around. Again moving on using the corridoor you enter the bar area.

Bar:
This area is not just a drinking zone, its a room for people to socialise, discuss great hunts, meet up or group up and generally hang around having fun. The bar and tender have the usual items on hand to keep the dry mouthed happy and could be seen as a small cantina. There are chairs lying around and sofas aswel as tables and holo chess table in the corner. As soon as you enter this room you cannot help noticing the large imposing doorway the Hall Of Heros.

Hall Of Heros:
This room acts as the main hall of the building housing certain quest givers, trainers and the ROCD. The hall is decorated in vines and flora from around the galaxy. It looks like an overgrown hydroponics facility with ancient statues and pieces of art covered in vines and flowers making it look very organic (would look even more spectatular as a cave hall hehe). The main focus point of the Hall Of Heros is the stage area and a massive statue of Jakra Lan. The stage area can be used as a meeting tool for hunts, an announcment stage or simply an area to hold meetings. From this area via steps you can accend to the Hunting Permit Office overlooking the hangar via a large window.

Hunting Permit Office:
This office is accessed via a set of steps and is only small in size compared to the main halls. This is because it only has one function realy: To hold the Hunting Permit Officer. This officer hold access to the various hunting zones located across the galaxy.
The room is decorated as if it was indeed an office but leaning towards a more 'one with nature' fealing that it seems all us rangers have. Various traps and camp equipment are lent up against the walls and in display cabinets. There are pictures of various hunting zones on the walls giving the sense of a galactic travel center.
There is a large window overlooking the Hangar where you can see the shuttle you will be using if you choose to go hunting, this links the whole hunting zones system with a sense of shuttle travel and keeps the player's attention firmly on getting a ticket and being shuttled to a far away zone, hostile to all life.

Now that the basic look and feel of the place has been determined i can concentrate fully on the features that will be located around this building.

2.0 ROCD: (Ranger Organic Contract Database)

Introduction:

Within the Hall of Heros there is an ROCD Uplink Terminal. This terminal allows the ranger to access the galaxy wide Ranger Organic Contract Databse (ROCD). In apearance the terminal looks like a mission terminal but when accessed allows the ranger to view the database.
The following are details of how the system works, how it will be used and why it should be included.

The ROCD of Ranger Organic Contract Dabase allows merchants and rangers to access, add and view player hunting contracts for organics. Merchants at a sufficient level can add contracts to the database where rangers can see then and fullfill the contracts.

The system can be split up into 2 areas, adding and browsing. Two classes/professions speecialise in each area; the merchant specialises in adding contracts to the database and monitoring the contract, the ranger specialises in fullfilling the contract by browsing and hunting.
Due to this clear split in system usage ive compiled two seperate sections detailing how each profession would use the system.

Merchant:

The merchant uses a special feature within the bazaar terminals currently used in the game allowing for the creation of resource contracts. The aim of this feature is to allow players to create and accept 'official' contracts of employment to other players for organic trade.

To create an organic contract:
  1. Merchant accesses ROCD feature in the bazaar terminal
  2. Merchant opens a new contract which allows him/her to select resource type and name
  3. The merchant then selects the contract amount up to 100k per contract, the cpu rate and the min stack size (500 units total min amount).
  4. If the merchant wishes a password can be created so only a the rangers who the contractor tells the password to can take the contract
  5. The merchant is then 'charged' the full contract amount up front to place the contract on the database
  6. The merchant recieves a data device in the datapad that details the current status of the contract

The contract will now apear on the ROCD and be browsed with various search options by novice rangers via the bazaar or via the ROCD Uplink Terminals located in certain ranger camps (if module has been installed) or in the Ranger Lodge.

The contract termination/fullfilment:

When the contract max amount has been reached:

  1. The contractor will recieve an email containing: Congratulation note, names of the hunters who deposited organics, the time it took to fullfil, and a wp to the terminal where the resources are located (the full contract stack is located at the terminal the merchant used to create the contract under the available tab)
  2. The suscribers will recieve an email saying thank you for your services the contract is now closed (even if the ranger failed to collect and deposit anything)
  3. The contract is removed from the ROCD

When the contract is terminated by the merchant:

  1. The contractor recieves the credits that have not already been 'claimed' by hunters in his/her bank account minus 10% cancelation fee.
  2. The suscribers are emailed detailing the contract has now been terminiated, thank you for your efforts.
  3. The contract is removed from the ROCD

Ranger:

As a ranger you will often find that you need to visit the trade forums or look for spam in theed or coronet to find contracts. This can be a legnthy process. The idea for this feature is to allow rangers to access a list of contracts they can fullfil whilst out in the field or in the Ranger Lodge so they can spend more time hunting. Also another good feature of this is that ranger will be pushed to the forfront of resource collection due to the fact that contracts on the ROCD will only be available to rangers and that organics can be exchanged whilst out in the field via the terminal modules in camps. This will allow rangers to keep hunting instead of returning to town to drop off organics now and then and wasting time on travel.

To browse a contract via the Uplink Terminal or Bazaar you must follow these steps:

  1. Open the bazaar/ROCD Uplink Terminal
  2. Access the database and perform the search via accending/descending lists of various criteria (contractor, resource type, resource name etc)
  3. Select the contract you wish to take and press 'Details'. The details page will have contractor info, and current ranger suscriber list to show the competition for this contract.
  4. If the contractor has put a password on the contract, the ranger must enter the password correctly and the details screen will load up with the info
  5. If this contract is the one you wish to hunt for press the 'Suscribe' button to indicate your interest in hunting this resource for this contract
  6. You will then be asked what amount you are aiming to secure.
  7. The ranger types the amount he/she aims to hunt for and then their name and amount is added to the details page of that contract.
  8. The ranger leaves to hunt

To fullfil a contract you must follow these steps:

  1. Access ROCD via the Uplink terminal or Bazaar and select the contract(s) you have suscribed to (highlighted).
  2. The details screen will apear showing the amount still needed on this contract
  3. The ranger selects the 'Fullfil' button and is presented with a slider box (similar to bank withdrawl box) with total stack size they have and the amount they want to offer (up to the contract limit).
  4. Once the ranger has selected the amount he/she wishes to Fullfil (must be in 500 unit increments) a confirmation window is given indicating if you have a desire to proceed with the transaction
  5. If the ranger chooses Ok then the units choosen will be exchanged for the CPU equiviant
  6. The amount deposited will be deducted from the current (available) quantity still left on the contract. So you suscribe to a contract of 100k units of meat, another ranger deposits 20k and the current (avilable) quantity goes down to 80k, you then drop your 35k off and they amount drops to 45k, either yourself or other rangers can then deposit up to a total of 35k until the contract is finished.

Ranger would still be able to secure private organic contracts but would also be able to access public contracts too much more easily. Successful and experienced hunters will find it alot easier to make a name for themselves using this system. By contacting contractors who you have hunted for previously you can build up quiet a reputation and over time you will find contractors are willing to offer you exclusive to batch (one or two hunters only) contracts. They will provide you with passwords to exclusive contracts and will allow you to advance in professional hunting to a much greater degree.

3.0 Hunting Permits: Adventure Zones

Within the Ranger Lodge there is a room called the Hunting Permit Office. This office houses a Hunting Permit Officer who regulates and controlls the distribution and use of hunting permits within the galaxy.

The galaxy is such a dangerous place full of hostile environments and dangerous creatures, most people avoid these places as much as they can and take note of warnings. The Galactic Hunting Commision provides safety measure to protect individuals by restricting access to the most inhospitable and dangerous areas of the galaxy. In order to enforce these safty measures no one is permitted access to these zones/areas unless accompanied by a qualified Hunting Guide.

These guides are rangers who have proven themselves as expert hunters able to lead a group through the most dangerous of terrains and evironments. Rangers who choose to become Hunting Guides are required to gain a Hunting Guide Lisence for each zone. The Ranger can gain these liscences by passing tests issued by the Hunting Permit Officer ranging from kill 200 x (low difficulty) to search and destroy tests of kill named creature x at y location (very high difficulty). The reason why rangers have to prove themselve is that the Galactic Hunting Commision needs to be sure groups that choose to hunt in these zones are in capable hands.

Zone difficulty varries depending on the party who took the mission. Large groups will experience high level mobs that will take a well constructed group to kill, smaller groups down to ranger only will have difficulty scaled accordingly. The Hunting Permit Officer has 4 planetary hunting sectors to choose from consisting of 3 different class type zones.

The zone classes are as follows:

Class A: A Class or 'Ambient Class' zones have surroundings and local atmosphere similar to the rest of the planet they are on. They contain a high level and range of beast that can be found on the main planet surface. The thing that makes this class of zone dangerous is that the animals who have chosen to make this zone their home are the most dangerous and tough beast from that planet. This class zone will be fun for mid range xp groups, for small harvesting/hunting groups and groups that want to have fun hunting normal beast.

Class B: 'B Class' or 'Bezerk Class' zones are areas that through centuries of isolation and seclusion have developed their own version of the planet's ecosystem. Animals that would otherwise be weak may have found a niche in the creature table and evolved into terrifying beasts. Animals that would otherwise be strong targets have become agressive blood thirsy and 'Beserked' monsters of creatures. In these zones you will find existing creature varients for that planet but of completly different resistances and armour ratings due to the unique and isolated ecosystem. This class zone is fun for hunting groups that want to take down much higher level beasts that give much higher harvest yields and xp.

Class D: 'D Class' or 'Death Class' zones are zones that have been twisted by either un-natural gravitational hotspots or by strange geothermal activity. The creatures in this zone are extremely dangerous but also limited in population due to the nature of the environment but provide unique and exciting loot drops that can be used in everyday crafting of components. An example of such a loot component would be that found from an Endorian Lantern Falcon. These beasts have evolved from normal lantern birds into huge agressive creatures with poisonous talcons and the ability to KD targets with directed wing thrusts. The talons from these birds can varry in effectiveness to the point where some would be considered legendary and can be used in the creation of posion kits and poison antidote kits. (note: Only Master Hunting Guides can access Death Class Zones)

When a Hunting Guide has gained all the liscences he gains the title: Master Hunting Guide. This is a reward for continous and extreme commitment to ensuring the safety of others and proving him/herself as a grand master hunter.

These zones allow players to take missions and travel to these zones. Players who wish to hunt in these zones must first arrange the services of a qualified hunting guide then apply for a permit.

How To Gain A Hunting Permit:

  • The Hunting Guild groups up and goes to talk to the Hunting Permit Officer
  • Selects 'I would like to get a hunting permit'
  • Selects the planet (dath, endor, yavin, lok)
  • Selects the class type (A, B, D)
  • Recieve the hunting permit

The hunting permit is effectively a travel ticket that allows you to gain access to the zones you have selected. You simply take you group to the shuttle you arrived on (in the hangar) and use the ticket to travel. You load up in the instanced zone you selected.

In The Zone:

  • Players are dropped off at the outpost where a clone center and insurance center is located.
  • The players hunt until they wish the leave or the mission is 'completed'
  • When players want to leave, the extraction shuttle is called in and players are sent back to the hangar in the Ranger Lodge
  • Players load up in the Hangar

A couple of ideas about the possible planets and zone names and objectives:

Planet Name: Endor
Area Quest Names and Details:
  • The Gurrek Pass:

Class: A - Class

Notes: The area is filled with vicious gurreks and many other dangerous beasts. The map is based on a pass through 2 mountains (unclimable).

Mission Objective: Eliminate Rabbid Gurrek Pack Leader

  • Wetlands:

Class: B - Class

Notes: Imagine Endor knee deep in water, more sparse but filled with giant agressive lantern birds and 'Bezerked' crystal snakes. Map is based on a endor/rori swamp area. A bio-genic leak has caused a rapid jump in the evolutionary cycle of the water crystal snakes in that area, they have become naturally resistance to fire and scientists believe their fire resistant DNA can be extracted and used as an enhancment in certain foods and bio engineered clothing.

Mission Objective: Recover a water crystal snake baby as a sample from the queen's lair for study (when given to the Hunting Permit Officer) you get the loot componet.

  • Contact Lost:

Class: D - Class

Notes: You are shipped in to locate/rescue/cleanup a downed starship. Contact with the survivors was lost 48 hours ago and it is believed it has been overun whilst awaiting a rescue party in the Canyon Of Rot on Endor.

Mission Objective: Rescue the survivors (if still alive), find out what happened there and bring back the black box

Planet Name: Yavin
Area Quest Names and Details:
  • Monsoon

Class: B - Class

Notes: A hilly area that has become the site of an unatural monsoon caused by something unknown. The monsoon has effected the Kliknik's sleeping paterns restricting their ability to sleep. They have become derranged and 'Bezerked' attacking everything in site causing a massive instability in the local ecosystem.

Mission Objectives: Locate and destroy the cause of this unatural monsoon and kill all remaining 'bezerked' Klikniks.

  • Paradise Island:

Class: D- Class

Notes: You enter zone which was once populated with beutiful beaches and waters and luxury holiday homes. Aproximatly 2 weeks ago the climate suddently changed for the worse in this area of the planet and all contact was lost. It is believed all known inhabbitants are dead and something organic is to blame. The climate change happened exactly 500 years after the fabled beast Yavlar went into a mysterious hybernation. No one knows where the Yavlar went or what the Yavlar looks like for no man has ever returned to tell the tales. Be causious in your search mission and investigate the climate change.

Mission Objectives: Investigate until new objectives are given.

This will hopefully detail a little bit of the potential this system could have and its purpose within the Ranger Lodge.

4.0 Jakra Lan Quest: Wilderness Clothing

Before i start delving into the system design and what will be involved take a read over the background story of Jakra Lan. This will set the stage for the quest and why it is located in the Ranger Lodge.

THE JAKRA LAN EPIC QUEST

Background Story

There was a great hunter once called Jakra Lan. He spent all his life perfecting the art of the hunt. Coming up with ingenious ways of creating unique items that enhanced his abilities far beyond that of a normal humanoid. Until now, his techniques and life work where thought to be lost. There was a rumour that jakra was eaten alive by the fabled Gorax of endor, other reports say he killed the Gorax and decided that was it, he could not perfect his 'art' any more and simply walked off into the sunset, never to be seen again.

Over the years tales of Jakras hunts have become legendary in the ranger world. People speak of his great hunts around camp fires at night empowering the listeners with hope and potential glory. Although the stories range from month long hunts stalking a single prey to tracking heards across the sun drenched fields of dantooine, there is one thing that lingers in shadows, bathed in secrecy and obscurity but features in each story: Jakra's Wilderness Clothing.

Jakra's clothing is as legendary as the stories of his hunts. His clothing was rumoured to have enhanced properties that pushed his physical and mental abilities far beyond his normal state. Not much is know this clothing. Where it came from, how it is made and how Jakra came across the items needed to craft it. One thing that is known however is that the clothing requires 5 items that only Jakra knows how to make, each peice requiring an additional 2 rare pieces to make. This makes a collective list of 10 items needed, all from rare creatures from 5 different planets that often are never seen by even the most experienced of hunters.

Again, the mystery of the clothing has left many questions unanswered and information that was percieved to be lost forever. That is until two weeks ago. There is a rumour that a trandosian hunter came across an old man in the wild living in a cabin wearing clothing that resembled Jakras clothing and although old in aprearance this man was far more agile than the hunter. The old man told stories of great hunts and said he knows things that no other humanoid knows, he has seen places and killed creatures that no one has ever looked at before. He knows of ways to perfect the hunt and is willing to share his knowledge now, with hunters that prove themselves in the wilderness.

Could this be Jakra? Could this old man be the legendary figure that so many camp fire stories depict? The feeling in the wind is that it is, Jakra has surfaced again and is willing to share his secrets of his unique clothing with hunters that impress him and prove they are worthy of the title; ranger.

So there you have it, it looks like Jakra has returned at last and is willing to share the screts of his wilderness clothing with the rangers who manage to prove themselves to him. The rumour of Jakras apearance has spread like wildfire within the ranger community, not least because of the mouthy Trandosian hunter who claims to have found him. As it stands the Hunter is resting in the confines of the Ranger Lodge and is willing to give the last known location of Jakra to anyone who will listen to his story. Aparently the Trandosian Hunter failed to impress Jakra but he will surly tell you otherwise.

Within the Ranger Lodge you will find the Trandosian located in the Hall Of Heros below the Jakra Lan Statue on the stage discussing his great 'acheivements' to all who dont have the luxury of ear plugs. By talking to him you will gain access to the Jakra Lan Quest.

The quest is designed for master rangers to push their skills past the master box and give them something to work for after master.

Ok so now the background story has been fleshed out giving details into why you should be excited to do this quest etc and why the rewards are great.. This next part will take that story and set out the quest the player must complete to gain the rewards

The reward for this quest is an enhancer for a clothing piece of your choice. The item you get can be traded to a tailor or added to the clothing item you want and the benefits are given. The benefit of the wilderness survival enhancer are as follows:

Jakra Lan Wilderness Clothing Enhancer:

The mods reflect the hunting origins and design of the item and would help the ranger have that little advantage over maybe non rangers and scouts. Each ranger can do the quest as many times as he/she wishes but can only wear one enhanced clothing piece at a time. Or perhaps the mods do not stack so you may have 5 enhanced pieces but only 1 set is taken into account.

As for looks, after popular demand this item can be added to any piece of clothing you desire. A player can then add this item to whatever clothing item they wish.

The mods i would include are as follows:

  • Toughness (npc/creature only i.e. non pvp)
  • Desiese Resistance
  • Poison Resistance
  • Trapping
  • Camo

First of all the rumour of Jakras presence on one of the planets must be part of the quest. You shouldnt get a wp to jakra himself but rather use your ranger skills to track him down. In the next section i will set up a sort of progress line of what will need to be done. Then in each section after that i will detail each area individually.

1.00 - Finding Jakra

  1. Speak to trandosian hunter in the Ranger Zone.
  2. Find out from him what planet Jakra is on.
  3. Locate contact on that planet, find out the area of the planet he was seen last.
  4. Travel around that area tracking to find the non-attackable character of Jakra outside his cabin.

2.00 - Proving Yourself

  1. Speak to Jakra and tell him of how you want to prove yourself.
  2. Set off on your first mission to kill the (insert rare and unique creature name here) and bring back its meat for part of Jakras dinner.
  3. Do second mission of foraging for an item Jakra wants for as an ingredient for the food.
  4. Read exactly what Jakra tells you and follow the instruction on the stove inputting the correct options
  5. Serve the food and listen/read his story of how he made the clothing

3.00 - The Hunt: Home Planet

  1. Starting with the planet Jakra is on, hunt down and kill the two creatures, loot their bodies and give pieces to Jakra.
  2. Let him make you the component with the 2 items.
  3. Answer the ranger question and have the component be placed in your inventory.
  4. Recieve data disk containing remain 8 animals to loot.

3.10 - The Hunt: Planet 2 - 5

  1. Collect the pieces from creatures Jakra tells you in the datadisk and return all 8 items to him.
  2. When you have 2 from the same planet, Jakra will use them to craft you a component.
  3. Get the 4 remaining components by getting the loot and letting Jakra refine them
  4. Answer the ranger questions right and recieve components in inventory.

4.00 - Making Jakra Lan Clothing Enhancer

  1. Give the components to Jakra.
  2. Let Jakra start crafting whilst you hunt/forage/cook dinner again.
  3. Give Jakra dinner and eat with him, then recieve Jakra Clothing Enhancment item in inventory.

5.00 - Back Again

  1. Talk to Jakra and catch up.
  2. Answer ranger question right.
  3. Do the start planet quest.
  4. Return the items and recieve the component.
  5. Do the same for the other 5 planets and recieve the components.
  6. Let Jakra make the items whilst you cook dinner again.
  7. Give the dinner, eat with him, then collect the item.

Ok all items collected and gained are NON-TRADEABLE so you have to do this for youeself to get the items and the badge. Must be done in order from hunter to the end or Jakra just says "sorry im just an old man with stories to be told". You can listen/read his stories as other content but to get past this and onto the clothing mission you need to talk to the hunter and his contact. The reward is tradeable and used to 'enhance' a clothing item.

FINDING JAKRA

1.01 : Speak to trandosian hunter in Ranger Lodge.

The trandosian hunter must be reletivly easy to find so he will be located inside the Ranger Lodge in the Hall Of Heros

1.02 : Find out from him what planet Jakra is on.

Simple questions and answers in dialogue can determine this but i dont want the hunter to tell us where Jakra is specifically. I want a more general response and details of where we can find his hunting partner who knows the region where Jakra was spotted.

1.03 : Locate contact on that planet, find out the area of the planet he was sited.

Again very simple dialogue path from introduction to end. This guy is basically a stepping stone to finding out the region of the planet (north east corner etc) Jakra was spotted.

1.04 : Travel around that area tracking to find the non-attackable character of Jakra outside his cabin.

Upon finding out this you head off into the wilderness and its up to you to track Jakra down using /areatrack and your cunning ranger perceptions

PROVING YOURSELF

2.01 : Speak to Jakra and tell him of how you want to prove yourself.

Ok so you've found Jakra's cabin and have explored it and been amazed at how cool it looks and hoping one day they add ranger owned cabins like this its now time to engage in conversation with Jakra.

Nothing too detailed in this section of the conversation because you will have only just met and he is more interested in telling you stories and finding out if you are a true hunter rather than share his secrets with you.

2.02 : Set off on your first mission to kill the (insert rare and unique creature name here) and bring back its meat for part of Jakras dinner.

Ok now your getting somewhere. You have convinced him to give you a chance to prove yourself.

The mission for this creature gives you a wp and at that waypoint you find a named creature (such as an ikopi type animal named The Malrot Stag for example). Kill this creature and bring back its meat and give it to Jakra. Prety simple enough and the animal should be reletively easy, aroud 6k ham with low resists if any.

2.03 : Do second mission of foraging for an item Jakra wants for as an ingredient for the food.

Second mission involves the ranger's forage ability. You have to search the surrounding area (the area has to be refreshed often to enable a few rangers to forage in a close time frame) for something like wild snaff. Take the item back and give it to him. You will then be greeted with "hmm yum, this is going to be one tasty meal".

2.04 : Read exactly what Jakra tells you and follow the instruction on the stove inputting the correct options

For this mission Jakra wants you to make him a meal "fit for a so called legend".

Jakra tells you EXACTLY how to make the meal. Here is the dialogue ive come up with:

"Take the Malrot Stag meat and place it into the large pan and fill it 1/4 with water. Leave the meat to stew for a 6 minutes then chop the snaff and place it in the pan. Leave for another 25 minutes then take the meat out. Garnish the meat with corellian swamp salt and my own special sauce to give it that extra kick. But do not put any pepper on the meat, it doesnt agree with me anymore"

This will require a system that lets you enter items into a 'hopper' labled as a pan. Then after the items are in the process starts. You are given a feedback response based on the progress of the meal and options to choose from based on what Jakra said.

The line options are as follows for the first choice: "Ok how should i start"

  1. "Place the Malrot Stag Meat into the large pan"
  2. "Place the Wild Snaff into the large pan"
  3. "Mix the Malrot Stag Meat and Wild Snaff and place in the large pan"
  4. "Place the Wild Snaff in the small pan"

The correct option would be 1. Any others and Jakra yells at you with a generic failure message saying "You've ruined it! You cant even follow simple instructions, come back some other time if you want to try prove yourself again"

The line options are as follows for the second choice: "right, now what?"

  1. "Fill the pan 1/2 with water and leave for 6 minutes"
  2. "Fill the pan 1/4 with water and leave for 25 minutes"
  3. "Fill the pan 1/4 with water and leave for 6 minutes"
  4. "Fill the pan 1/2 with water and leave for 25 minutes"

The correct option would be 3. Any wrong answer given and you get the generic failure message features in the first choice section.

The line options are as follows for the third choice: "Good so far, what's next?"

  1. "Chop the Wild Snaff and garnish the meat"
  2. "Chop the Wild Snaff and leave for 25 minutes"
  3. "Chop the Wild Snaff and leave for 6 minutes"
  4. "Take the meat out and serve"

The correct answer would be 2. Failure results in failure message.

The line options are as follows for the fourth choice: "Ok almost done, what shall i do now?"

  1. "Garnish the meat with salt, pepper and Jakra's sauce then serve"
  2. "Garnish the meat with salt then serve"
  3. "Garnish the meat with Jakra's sauce then serve"
  4. "Garnish the meat with salt and Jakra's sauce then serve"

The correct answer is 4.

If you choose 1 the response is "what are you doing? trying to kill me? I said NO Pepper!"

If you choose 2 the response is the generic failure response

If you choose 3 the response is the generic failure response

Choosing correctly will result in a pass of this section of the quest and onto the hunt section. "Ah wonderfull, just as i said. You have no idea how long its been since ive had a good meal, for that matter its been a long time since ive had company for a meal, please join me my friend"

2.05 : Serve the food and listen/read his story of how he made the clothing

Ok youve served the food and you are enjoying youve enjoyed your meal with Jakra. Now its down to business. You listen to his story of how he made the legendary clothing and he will make some for you if you prove yourself a master hunter by collecting the various items he needs to make it.

THE HUNT: HOME PLANET

3.01 : Starting with the planet Jakra is on, hunt down and kill the two creatures, loot their bodies and give pieces to Jakra.

Ok after talking to Jakra you learn that there are two animals on this planet that 'drop' and item he needs for the clothing and needs you to hunt them down and retrieve the item. You are then on your own. This is the fun part. You arnt given any waypoints, no lairs of missions. Just told that the animal tends to roam in a certain area (ie within 500m of the Ewok Lake Villiage if on endor). It is then up to you to hurry off and hunt these creatures down. Using your ranger skills it shouldnt be a problem and using traps, killing the creatures shouldnt be a problem either.

The home planet missions are designed to be prety easy and spawns all within 500m (range of /areatrack) from pois. It will be used as an introduction to the hunt rather than dump you in at the deep end.

The two items that drop from the creature are non tradable items and if deleted you can simply hunt down another later on.

3.02 : Let him make you the component with the 2 items.

You talk to Jakra after you have the two items and select the response "I have the items you sent me for, here you go"

The items are then given to Jakra and he Start making you 1 component named (blah blah leather etc). You will need to have 5 different components (1 given for each 2 pieces recieved per planet).

3.03 : Answer the ranger question and have the component be placed in your inventory.

Whilst he is making the component he asks you a question. Answer correct and you will recieve your item, answer incorrectly and he gives a lecture about how you are not a true hunter and he does not give you your component. He instead keeps it and its up to you to gather the items again.

3.04 : Recieve data disk containing remain 8 animals to loot.

You have completed the easy task of doing the first planet section. It is not up to you to kill all the other creatures Jakra gives you information on. The information he gives you in the data disk is the name of the beast, the planet its found on and where you can find the two animals (Where instead of within 500m of a poi its more generic like in the east of 'endor' or north west of 'yavin).

THE HUNT: PLANETS 2-10

3.11 : Collect the pieces from creatures Jakra tells you in the datadisk and return all 8 items to him.

In the same way you complete the first quest part of collecting the items from the home planet, you now do the same but on another planet killing a different set of creatures and gathering a different set of items to make the component for that planet.

3.12 : When you have 2 from the same planet, Jakra will use them to craft you a component.

This section covers a total of 8 items that have to be gathered the ultimatly get turned into 4 more components. These along with the 1 you already have make 5 components out of 10 rare loot pieces.

3.13 : Answer the ranger questions right and recieve components in inventory.

Same as before, answer a question about ranger ethics and you get your component. An example of one of these questions could be:

"What trap causes the target to slow considerably" the answer being pheascene dart.

The questions should test the ranger's knowledge of his/her equipment. This quest is being given from a legendary hunter after all and you are 'proving' yourself as a master hunter.

MAKING JAKRA LAN CLOTHING ENHANCER

4.01 : Give the components to Jakra.

Ok now you have all 5 planet specific components in your inventory and its time to get your jacket. Talk to Jakra and the option of "I have all the components you asked for here" becomes available. Pressing this takes all of the items from your inventory and gives them to Jakra.

4.02 : Let Jakra start crafting whilst you hunt/forage/cook dinner again.

The same mission as before is given after Jakra says "Do an old man a favour and brew up some of that fine Malrot Steak you made me once whilst i make you your jacket. Here is where i found a Malrot Stag graising everlier this morning."

Do as your told and follow the same instruction as before however a failure will simply result in Jakra saying "not as good as before but still acceptable, thank you friend"

4.03 : Give Jakra dinner and eat with him, then recieve Jakra Clothing Enhancment item in inventory.

If you succeed and follow through the dialogue Jakra eats the meal with you and after that a Jakra Lan Clothing Enhancer is placed in your inventory ready for use by a tailor to enhance the properties of a clothing item. You are also given the Jakra Lan Hunt Master badge. A very apropriate reward for a fun quest and something other players will be able to see.

I for one was devastated when our hunt master title was taken away so having the Jakra Lan Hunt Master badge as a reward is a nice tribute to that and maybe there would be a way to alow this badge to be wearable as a title by rangers who wish to do so who knows

BACK AGAIN

5.01 : Talk to Jakra and catch up.

By catch up i mean some simple dialogue referencing your previous visit(s) and asking how you are doing etc

5.02 : Answer ranger question right.

Jakra just wants to know how you are doing so asks you a simple ranger question and if you get it right you progress, if not you siply have to greet him again.

5.03 : Do the start planet quest.

Same as before, hunt down the creatures and kill them

5.04 : Return the items and recieve the component.

As before, same thing just working to get a different clothing piece.

5.05 : Do the same for the other 4 planets and recieve the components.

Do the 4 planets and collect the 8 items to turn into the 4 components.

5.06 : Let Jakra make the item whilst you cook dinner again.

He just loves your cooking so much, but a small price to pay for getting a sweet clothing enhancer.

5.07 : Give the dinner, eat with him, then collect the item.

The best bit of the quest. Recieving the reward. No Badge this time as you already have it.

Hopefully you have enjoyed reading this quest. Basically this quest is an end game quest that allows master rangers to further their skills, allows them to get the Jakra Lan Hunt Master Title and generally feel better about themselves

it all sounds great, but that is a TON of work to spend on Rangers. Don't get me wrong, i love being a ranger, but i think there are lots of other things in the game that need to be fixed before they should spend that kind of time on rangers.

we have JTL coming soon.
we have the combat rebalance
we have the smuggler revamp (which is LONG overdue)
we have the entertainer content being added
and i am sure that after a lot of that, they will begin doing publishes geared towards improving JTL.

there are some things that should be fixed for rangers, but other professions need attention. Smugglers first and foremost. The poor smugglers have been getting the short end of the stick since the game was launched. BH's need some more revamps to actually encourage them to hunt jedi. 5k credits for a jedi kill???? what are the devs thinking??? entertainers literally have no content at all, as their missions from the terminals are jokes. i think i heard that squad leader was in line for some revamps as well.

but with all of that said, i would love to see at least something similar to this implemented. maybe it'll be in publish 20 or 21.

One thing that struck me immediately (apart from wow, you put a lot of work in that!) was that a building similar to the Tat PA halls coul dbe used for this, with some modification of the artwork to introduce some more 'back to nature' flavour.

There is a room on the right hand side of these buildings that for some reason nobody seems to use. It's a kind of long thin storeroomy thing which would make a grand wee office for the Permits Clerk.

One way of combining the Lodge with the idea of Ranger Only zones would be for the Permit Clerk to be not just a mission giver but a version of the faction recruiter. You can only get a permit of you have skills above x level, clerk does a check to see if you're good to go, if you are you get something like a faction TEF. Nopt one that makes you a target to all, but one that allows you entrance to, and access to the enhanced spawns, within the Ranger Only Area. (ROA's could function in a similar way to the battlefields, in so far as they are clearly marked out and only appropriately flagged rangers (the ones with the permit) get an enhanced spawn rate / creature harvest level.

Like the idea of the Contract database too. It would mean rangers can pick and choose which contracts they want to take with some level of guarantee that they'd get paid on completion.

Yup, I like.

BTW, for generating a 3d walkthrough, Adobe used to have a 3d environment engine called Atmospher that, with a browser plug in, would let people build 3d chat rooms, towns, landscapes, etc and then other folk could visit using an avatar. If its still available might be a good way of putting up some version of the Lodge for people to drop in and check out? (Just a thought, inarticulately expressed, as usual)

The original design was actually using the Tat Guildhall. I just wanted to spice things up so i made it into a custom building that could be used with existing texture plates etc.

Im happy for anything that looks ranger ish.

Very nice.  I recommend you update your link post with a new link.  Now if only we could sneak into the Devs' boss's office and leave some of this stuff in his to make Devs do pile (along with a nice bowl of punch) so that it would actually get done.
