1. 40 man raids (similar to WoW)
2. PvP instances (some sort of "arenas"?)
3. More PvE instances that take time and require a lot of skill....
4. revamp the friggin GCW system.

Just thinking, Smed must be brave with the reaction he is going to get or he knows full well the temp forum will get deleted once the forum upgrade is complete. I mean he has waited until the weekend to post, especially when he could have posted earlier in the week.

Content is the single biggest thing people playing SWG want. - this surprised me.

Sometimes the cluelessness at the top of the chain stuns me. Seriously.

They pointed out that we do a lousy job at this, and they're right. As such, you can expect a poll in the near future to help us prioritize things for the next 6-12 months.

Again - HELLO MCFLY!! And I'm not to re-assured that a "poll" is going to be a step in the right direction, lol...

Guild Management tools in SWG aren't up to snuff - I went ballistic when I heard you can only manage your guild through the terminal. We need to fix this.

McFLY!!!! 3 years later - and the guy running the game realizes this, hehe

Server consolidation - we need to fasttrack this - it's a very hard problem, and the team has had other priorities.

Translation: still isn't gonna happen anytime soon

Ok, so after going through the emotions of being happy and upset that this had not happened earlier I got to thinking: Is this something we will get every year or so to give us hope? Why now? Will anything really come of any of this?

IIf by story telling you talk about linear story. No way. I don't  pay 15 buck a month for single player mechanic. Why it is so hard to understand that mmo is about world and people.

Go and read about WAR, with the realm quest stuffs. It is a good start.

I want an implementation of a dynamic event creator system, base on regions/groups and levels of the players walking around planets. Go back on the drawing board , drink alot of cofee and use whips on your gameplay designers and enginers and create new fun and rich stuffs.

Mmo adventure should be about monster attacking a cities, an alien ship landing near you that try to conquer the planet. Geting captured my storms trooper and escaping a prison. Blowing up that rebels camps. It is not a go talk to NPC x and get a rewards at the end. I don't care how super and great the story is, it isn't why I want to play mmo.

It's about people vs unplaned adventure. It's about hunting, catastrofock, plagues cause by a player pushing a buton on a container... and craps falling on you.

To the community, please lets not focus on the negative instead lets see this in a positive light.

As Smed said we need to focus on moving the game forward and if that means content then that's all good isn't it?

Instead of blaming Smed or Helios or anyone else at SOE we should be posting what we want to have in the way of content, give them some ideas.  If, going forward, they will listen to us more then now is the time to put the past behind us and continue posting/re-posting them new ideas and suggestions.

Icco,  we HAVE been telling them things that are needed in game in positive ways.  Problem is that they didnt listen to us then and they still havent,  SURE somebody can argue that they RE added some of the old game in our expertise.  FINALLY they listened to something,  but with smedly we are STILL pissed that He still contends to play other games and focus more on there well being instead of listening to us.  and his note suggest that they have had poor comunications and conections with us.  DUH.,  Had they listened to us back then we would not be having this conversation and hate now.    And to think it took ALL THIS TIME for him to see this as a problem?

Forced server consolidation would do more harm than good, if they fix the game and add lots of new content we might get the numbers back.

please elaborate on how " forced server consolidation would do more harm than good "  and i think your wrong about the " new content = new players " thing,  while it is true to some extent,  its simply not going to be enough to populate servers to where they need to be.

How about this, I would stop playing if I was forced to switch servers.
I have too much stuff and would lose all of it.  No thanks.

im sure that if they consolidate servers,  they would come up with a way to allow you to keep 99% of your stuff,  and thats why they havent done it yet,  because they havent figured out how to do it to where you wouldnt loose a lot of **edit**

At one point I spent an hour or so talking with a group of the Star Wars Galaxies players that had come. It was a very interesting and enlightening discussion, and I wanted to thank all of them for their candor.

I wanted to make sure I close the loop on that discussion because I walked away with some new priorities.

Here are my thoughts:

1) Content is the single biggest thing people playing SWG want. - this surprised me. From our perspective we had thought revising the systems in the game (i.e. expertise revamps) was a bigger deal. While they did say this was important, I was susprised they ranked this higher than working on PVP.

4) Server consolidation - we need to fasttrack this - it's a very hard problem, and the team has had other priorities.
5) We need to explain ourselves and the thinking behind changes a lot better
6) Once we got past the "please bring back the pre-NGE servers" (no, we're never going to do that)  the discussion really got down to brass tacks. Many people ask me why I don't post a lot here, and the simple answer is that it's hard to follow a thread when many of the posts end up being "bring back pre-NGE servers" and other issues we've moved past. Please don't misunderstand me on this - I get why some people want this. It's just that it isn't possible and at some point if we're going to move the game forward new ideas are at the top of the list of things we should be discussing. That's my view anyways.

Smed

Smed, you have to keep in mind you have a lot of people like me that have gone through 2 combat system changes........and 3 1/2 years into the game the system is still being changed. This wears thin after a while.

As for the content.......read the forums more often. That is your fault you didn't know content was the #1 thing people want. If you actually read the forums you would see in every profession forum countless threads crying out for content.

My last thought and question is about the pre-NGE servers............You have consistently "dumbed" down the game (crafting is now in the state that only 1 line of experimentation effects the end product UNLESS you are a shipwright, sub-components no longer effect the final product 99% of the time, experimentation suits?!?!?!? who needs 'em?, ect.) yet you STILL seem to think the NGE combat system with it's SLOWER pace, and the "Tactics" you need to use is the way to go. What is the thinking behind this? (other than the fact it's a direct ripoff of the WoW system).

Actually no its not any fun. Some cities are not dead, Some are 3 years old and still active, to lose something like that because you had to work, or your connection wasnt fast enough or what not is not "exciting".  I know the last thing i want is 2000 new "leet butt wads"  forced upon my server, just as im sure you dont want some 2000 "lame RPers" forced on yours.

I remember when Ultima Online opened up new lands to housing, half the playerbase couldnt get into the new lands because of lag and server load. And considering how laggy SWG is anymore, i would expect it to be worse.

I think SOE needs to focus on the game, get rid of inactive structures yes, but work on the game, do things to keep your current players and to bring back your old players.

They have a very small amount of time left theres 2 major sci fi mmos due to launch this year and if SOE dont fix this game quick many will flock to them alot of starwars fans seem to be both StarGate and StarTrek fans also

Star Wars fans seem to be Star Trek fans? Where'd you hear that?

ok some

But most seem to be StarGate which will hurt SWG when StarGate Worlds launches

Heck, a lot of us Sci-Fi fans are fantasy fans too. We didn't go to WoW because it was simplistic and cartoony, and we didn't go to DDO because it just doesn't have the feel of a wide open fantasy world. Vangaurd, LoTRO , and AoC, on the other hand, are all coming out this year. They are all non-cartoony realistic fantasy games with wide open worlds and huge amounts of PvE content. They are designed with latest gen graphics for newer machines, and each of them has at least a couple of interesting and innovative new systems.

Vanguard is already hurting SWG (although probably not so much SOE, unfortunetly).

There are a lot of new gen games coming out in the next 6-12 months, and SWG is starting to show it's age. Had the publish plan announced at the commity summits actually been completely folled through on, SWG would be in a good place to continue to compete with these games. But the publish plan wasn't really followed through on, the development resources just were not there, and SWG isn't in a position to compete with these games.

Looking at this unemotionally and practically, I just can't see where this isn't already a lost battle.

I'm worried here.   Wait a minute.  You didn't know this?  Anyone who's spent any time in a guild knows this.  Its been this way since game launch.

Smed, please please please tell me you've played SWG....  Tell me you've grinded a toon from 1 to 90...  Because now I have a feeling that you, the president of SOE, has no clue what SWG is.  Stop playing WoW and spend some time playing SWG.

I have a feeling this game has no hope now....

Smed - if you want content ideas, read this word doc (32 pages long) - it is full of ideas that reuse systems already in the game in new ways to generate content players desire. I've passed this to TH and Blixtev, and I have been preaching the "content" thing for a while now.

What you need to understand is SWG serves TWO masters. There are those that want systems, and those that want content. And you will need to be good at both to make people happy. The above would be a good step that utilizes the NGE to effect systems and content, instead of asking for a replacement for it. It's 32 pages long, but it's a good read, and it's realistic based on what information the devs have given us in bits and pieces. I promise.

From what I've seen-zero. It looks like they were all combat orientated or at least I didn't see a single, crafting question/concern addressed.

Well, it may have been addressed but no one got past the devspeak by explaining why the dev position is wrong.

I support removing combat classes if keeping them in results in a "dumbed down" game
- I support Devs that know how to design a game
