Every time I play Galaxies, I wonder if Devs have done the real change Galaxies need to imporve and to be in the list of the bests MMORPG, as it was a long, long  time ago.
 
When I played for the first time, last August, I got shocked because of the complexity of the game. To be a Bounty Hunter you had to combat enemies to get experience, and then go back to a marksman trainer to get the carabiner I level, paying, or getting in a group to be trained by a more experienced marksman, for example. That was great. Everybody was in a group, where you got more experience, really really more than now.
 
But it was a time when a Jedi was really really difficult to see and defeat, because of the great complexity and dificulty of getting in the Jedi path (you know, getting lots of badges, being force sensitive, doing hard quests...), and a time when we were more than a million playing.YES, MORE THAN 1,000,000 PLAYERS!!!! But nowadays most of them are in WOW (World Of Warcraft, which has the complete support of  Blizzard as they cancelled lots of projects in order to improve WOW, and it has, aproximate, 6,000,000 players), Guild Wars (which is free, appart from having the best graphics), and now they’ll be in NWN2 (Neverwinter Nights 2, by Obsidian Entertainment (makers of Knights Of The Old Republic 2), totally free, and with the newest and, now yes, THE BEST GRAPHICS EVER).
 
People leaves Galaxies. SWG is going down, and with our dreams and histories of it. We must do something, correction, Devs must do something. This is because I’ve made this list of things that could improve our lovely Galaxies:
 
Worlds:
 
  • Better Graphics. Dosen’t need explanation, improve them.
  • Rain: when you walk across Dantooine, for example, you might see “transparent papers with some drops”, if you understand my phrase. How poor is the imagination of Devs? Please, make it more real. Don’t make us cry.
  • Lava: Have you seen it in Mustafar? Ridiculous. Even with the graphics at the top, it is like a drawnig of a baby. Work on it!!
  • Improvement of the water, such as the movements of the objects that are swimming, the Graphics of it (better waterfalls, better graphics of the “underwater” instead of having the same graphic as the ground of the world, including the bushes that are in the rivers.
  • Bigger Worlds. I think its time to make planets more large than they’re now, don’t you?
  • New Planets: people want new planets. Make an effort and include some new planets to the Galaxy. I'm talking about Korriban, Dagobah, Bothawi, Ithor, Belkadan, etc. Having a Geonosian lab in Yavin 4 because we don't have Geonosis... (the worst thing I've seen) create Geonosis.

Coruscant, the heart of power in the star wars universe is not a planet in Star Wars Galaxies.  I am creating this thread for three reasons:
1- I strenuously believe Coruscant should be in this game, and hope others do too.
2- This topic can serve as a hub for any and all who have constructive thoughts about getting this planet into our game.  This would include content ideas, planet preferences, or any other thoughts.
3- If you want to see this planet at or near the top of the list of future expansions, make a simple post to show your support.

Basically I would divide Hoth into different Gameplay Types. A massive PvP area in the center of the planet and the outlying areas would be more focused PvE content.
 
Life on Hoth:
 
Hoth would be a harsh planet to be on. Blinding snowstorms can appear without warning. As well, you can't venture out into Hoth without the proper clothing. Of course, wooks don't need snow clothes, just look Chewie in Ep. V!.  (Suggestion by Anulbis)Tailors would be able to make degradable clothing to protect you while you are out in the elements. This would be the general Hoth look -
 
Han Solo's look - the blue winter jacket with hood, which seems to be ingame.
Rebel Snow Trooper uniform - the all white clothing the soldiers wear on the battlefield.
Imperial Snow Trooper Armor - Snow Trooper Armor! Finally! Armorsmiths will make these.
 
Everyone would have to wear this clothing if they venture outside their base. It also degrades over time so that tailors will see repeat business.
 
Ranger skills, nighttime and snowstorms - Snowstorms are deadly if you are caught in them without proper protection. Warm clothing won't protect you. Instead, players will have access to camps in the GCW expertise. With this, they can build camps to protect them from dying in a snowstorm, as well as at night. At night, the only thing that will protect you from the super intense cold is to build a camp, thus giving need for that Ranger skill. Rare creatures out in the wilderness will have to be hunted effectively and fast, so that Ranger creature searching skill can also make a comeback. Nighttime won't last too long, but its a good way of keeping you back from content without a Ranger or the skill.
 
Describing the Battlefield:
 
There would be a large Rebel base, Echo Base in the upper North Middle area of Hoth on the map and there would be an Imperial Landing Zone Base in the South Middle Area. In between the two bases would be the Battle of Hoth battlefield with really tall mountains fencing in the battlefield for the entire middle section of the planet to the respective bases. These mountains will not be crossable so once you are on the battlefield you are in it and can't leave and come in at a different spot. You have to work your way through your starting area to the other base.
 
Different Gameplay Modes: There will be 4 different Hoth sequences that will continue one after the other and starting over again after the 4th.
 
Gameplay Mode #1: Business As Usual - 1 hour duration
 
The respective bases are milling about with nothing going on, as both sides would be considered to not know each other is there. At this time, the battlefield is closed, and people from both bases can go about with the general PvE content on Hoth.
 
Gameplay Mode #2: Before the Storm - 1 hour duration
 
In this mode, both bases gear up for war. People at both bases must round up their scouts and supplies across Hoth to prepare for battle. This is pretty much a repeatable series of quests. PvE content can continue to go on of course. The more quests for each side completed, the more forces they can deploy in the battlefield.
 
Gameplay Mode #3: The Battle of Hoth - 1 hour duration or less
 
At this point, the battle begins. Players can rush out to the battlefields to defend Echo Base or assault it as the Empire. The Empire will deploy respawning AT-ATs and AT-STs that are player driveable. As well, the Rebels will have Snowspeeders. Yes, Rebels will be able to control turrets. It will take some time for the Empire to cross the battlefield, but cross it they will. NPCs will be deployed with Rebel Snow Troopers at the base and Imperial Snow Troopers on foot with the vehicles making their way forward. No matter how well the Rebels do, the Empire will eventually destroy the Shield Generator for the base at the hour mark no matter what. Of course, it takes an AT-AT shot so the Empire has to do well to do it earlier and end the hour duration.
 
Up in space at this point in time Star Destroyers will appear and gradually move toward the planet to form a blockade of sorts.
 
Basically the Rebels must hold out for an hour as the remaining Rebels in the base gather the supplies and equipment in the base together. This equipment will be used in the next gameplay mode.
 
Gameplay Mode #4: Escape from Echo Base - 1 hour duration or less
 
In this mode, the Rebels must escape from Echo Base and Hoth altogether. All of the Rebels in Echo Base are counted as the mode begins. The Cloning system is shut down so you can only die once. If you die, you clone on another planet with your ship in tow. The Rebels must make it into their ships or NPC ships to escape. However, if the Rebels all escape they still can't win immediately as they have to try to place the base equipment and supplies on escaping NPC ships to have a chance at winning. Score will be based on how many supplies, NPCs and people make it out alive in the hour.
 
During the escape, the Empire will gradually penetrate the base. Imperial players wont have immediate access as they will have to destroy blast doors and the like. However, Snowtrooper NPCs will gradually move into the base. As well, Darth Vader will make his way in and send you off to the cloner in one fell swoop. Hes unkillable so run like hell from him. Eventually the Imperial players will get full access to the Base near the end, so as to give the Rebels a chance.
 
However, the base will be continually falling apart. Ceilings will randomly cave in with debris, blocking the path and forcing you to go around to get to your hangar. As well, bridges across chasms will fall as the chasms widen just like the N64 Star Wars game Shadows of the Empire. At the hour, any remaining Rebels will be pretty much insta-killed by Darth Vader choking them from miles away. Hey he did it in ESB to Ozzel.
 
At this time the Space Game really takes over as well. All Rebel ships and pilots are considered Special Forces. Rebel starfighters must cover the escaping NPC transports from Imperial Star Destroyers and TIE Fighers. This is the ideal time for a Smuggler with a fast POB ship as he could evacuate any number of Rebels who aren't too good at space while asking for cover from other Rebel pilots. The Rebel transports take quite a few hits and generally must be hit by Imperial player pilots to be killed, though some could get too close to Star Destroyers for their own good. You will not be able to jump into hyperspace instantly, but you must fly to a random hyperspace jump point that spawns just for you.
 
Scoring and Rewards:
 
Scoring is tallied up based on how well the Rebels do. The Empire pretty much wins no matter what just like ESB, therefore the only upset is if the Rebels manage to ultimately win by escaping with a lot of people and supplies. If no Rebels or Imperials play in Hoth after a while, the Empire wins by default. A minimum number of supplies and people must escape to count as a Rebel win. So ultimately, the Empire stands the chance of winning nearly all the time. Just like the movies. Since the cycle alternates every 4 hours, the number of victories is tallied at the end of the week to grant the galaxy wide reward. Then the results of the next week will be tallied up and rewards given then.
 
Reward:
 
Whoever wins gets the reward. It is a buff - Imperial Dominance for the Empire and Rebel Valor for the Rebels. It will be an unlockable command just like Favor of the Elders - instead granting +35 to all stats as well as altering pricing of faction supplies. If Rebels win, supplies are cheaper for them and vice versa for the Empire. Since many servers have an overwhelming Rebel force, they will have to justify their success by winning at the battlefield, while its pretty much the Empire's battle to lose.
 
PvE content and the Like:
 
An abandoned Smuggler Outpost - Full of weapons and other goodies. Is on Hoth and I'm not making it up.
 
Wampa Cave - Of course. The Wampa cave is much larger than most people think, It is full of underground water systems and has other creatures like ice bats. Of course, the good loot draw here is looting Wampas and looting the corpses of unlucky Rebels and Smugglers.
 
Abandoned Jedi Crystal Cave - cause I'm gonna steal it from that other planet just so that the Jedi have something to not whine about.
 
Hoth Wildlife - Theres ice bats, blueish vulture like creatures, giant white and blue porcupines that shoot their quills, Wampas and Tauntauns, and even plants that shoot little deadly spores. Theres more I just can't remember right now.
 
Scout Camps - Both sides have set up Scouts that need their quests to be done. Checking sensors and the like.
 
Space Content -
 
Rebels - covering escaping transports and escaping players.
 
Imperials - killing Rebel transports and players. Also get to fly by quite a few Star Destroyers in action.
 
Hoth Asteroid Field - for the players that want it tough or to make a point. This asteroid field will be dense with many different sizes of asteroids. It will be incredibly dangerous. You will be able to land in the giant asteroid - inside the space worm. Theres content there - mynocks and lost starships with nice loot in them. Also droids for security systems. Heh, and you said content for Hoth couldn't be done. Also asteroid mining.
 
Wish List - Things I'd Like to Have
 
Player Capital Ships - That would be a real plus
 
Player Ship Hangars in Echo Base - It would be nice that your ship is actually able to called up from a terminal and spawn in the hangar as you leave. It would be cool to have my YT-1300 appear and to walk around in it. It would also be nice to see it take off as I'm in the cockpit...
 
Atmospheric Flight - This will have to happen to a degree for the Snowspeeders, but overall isn't likely to encompass flying an X-Wing, TIE Fighter or YT-1300 high in the atmosphere. Snowspeeders wouldn't be able to overcome the mountains that encase the battlefield. (suggestions made by roguecloudwalker)
  • A better connection between objects (including NPC & PC) and the wolrd, because everybody has seen, at least one time: a Stormtrooper in a house, your character walking but without moving any leg, or walking but being in a speederbike, a Rill in the air (sometimes called FloatingRill), a plant in a hill, but with its roots not touching the ground, etc.
 
The Galaxies Paths (professions):
 
  • Return to the old System of Professions? I’t was great to “tune” your character. In the old system, when you were a BH, you got some extra points to lvl up in Artisan, but not having enought some times to become a master BH and master Artisan.The old professions were:

That were the old professions, but now there’re only12 (Trader has 4 professions). Too poor. I think there should be more professions, including those not “starwarsy”, and also that you could have 2 professions, like trader and some type of combat profession.
Ahh... One more thing about expertise, i’ve heard someone saying: “at last, everyone in the same profession will be different”. That’s not true, lots of people will take the same path in expertise. So: who’ll be different?
 
Commando:
- SpecOps.
- SpecForce.
- Support.

Spy:
- Infiltrator.
- Recon.
- Pathfinder

BountyHunter.
- Assassin.
- Hitman
- Sniper.

Smuggler:
- Rogue.
- Pirate.
- Thug

Officer:
- Platoon leader
- Communication Operator.

Medic:
- Combat medic
- Surgeon.
- Scientist.

  • Jedi, a profession aside. The Jedis in the time of this game are few, or they don’t show themselves most of the time. They’re hunted by the empire. WHY, do we see them everywhere, they clone themselves? You should do something aside from the other professions to be a Jedi, and that must be more difficult, and a long way (I’m a jedi too, but I agree that Jedi path should be more difficult, and aside of  the other profesions, I mean that you couln’d choose it, you have to work to be a force sensitive).

I don't think Jedi should be in this game at all, except as NPCs. Players should be able to train themselves to be Force Sensitive with work, yes, but they should never be full-fledged Jedi waving around lightsabers or Force Choking people. The most you should be able to get it perhaps two Force powers, such as healing and Force Push, and a few general abilities to increase your accuracy, health, stamina, ect. No one should ever be a full Jedi, just slightly FS.
Of course, if you did become slightly FS, you would have a chance of being hunted by the Empire.

  • Creature Handler. Why have you taken out it? That was one of the best professions. In those great times, you oppened a Bazaar and you could buy a rancor that followed you intimidating your enemies, or a Nabooinian Snake that danced as well as you in a full Starport, etc. Everyone from you that was a CH loved it SURELLY. Please return those professions you “stole”, like Image Designer and more.

Combat: (Devs have done great changes, not too much to mention)

  • Groups should get more experience, as they used to. That was something great, being in front of Mos Eisley Starport shouting: “/yell Anyone for a hunting group?”. It was good that you improve more with other’s help, as well as by your own.
  • Enemies NPC shouln’d be so hard to defeat as they are now. You can be killed by enemies 20 lvls less than you!! Strange for a role game, isn’t it? But also, we have to say that , like grauls and jedis in dantooine, woulnd't be so easy to defeat as dey are now. So this would be:  easier to kill your lvl, more easy the low lvls, and more harder the high lvl char.
  • Abilities: I think that abilities are no realistic enought. For example: a charged shot. You can have different forms of using a weapon, fast fire or certain or sniper shot, as it was before, more or less. It could make it more realistic.
  • Medic buffs have been found annoyingly difficult to apply  before a pvp battle and found to genrally not last long enough.  Increase the time to 30 minutes or make it into an area buff like the area heals for ease of use , relaxation and  etc.  I hear medics stressing and complaining that they cant buff their pvp friends cause they have to stand still and also have to clear target each time for each individual. (suggestion made by masterbahumet)
  • Everyone who loves PVP in this game loves guildwars but guildwars have no winner.   Put an end to the he said she said bullcrap and add a simple system to the PA terminals to keep track of which guild has the most kills in battle.  Pretty simple just add a simple score system to the wars part of PA hall terminals with a set number of kills to determine the winner. (suggestion made by masterbahumet)

Characters:

  • There should be more variety in character appearance, in order to have more different player appearances.
  • All species should have bonus for diferent professions, plus bonus in stamina, costitution, etc. For example:
    • Human: are the moderated, they are good for everything, squad leader bonus (suggestion made by stoll)
    • Zabrak: are the best ones for combat, ranged and melee.
    • Ithorian: are good for Artisan things, like structures, decorations,etc. Not too good in combat (they’re paceful,aren’t they?).
    • Sullust: they’re good in space, and in Shipwright.
    • Twi’lek: they are good Entertainers, so their’s are the best buffers, and good in BH or Smugling.
    • Mon Calamarian: The best one in Shipwright, and good in Squad Leader (old profession).
    • Wookie: Really good in Melee combat, and normal in Ranged combat.
    • Bothan: Good in Squad Leader, Spy, and Ranged combat.
    • Trandoshan: Really good in BH and Ranged combat. Melee combat normal.
    • Rodian: Good in Smugling, BH and Ranged combat.

Quests:

  • Legacy Quests: they’re good, you make history as well as gain lot of xp, but everyone does that, so why everyone has the same stories to tell. You have to make your own way through the galaxy, so that’s because I would take it away. Please don’t misunderstand me, I say: take out the Legacy quests. Not the quests you can take from Luke, Darth, or any commoner or mission terminal. Trehla Keelo, the one next to the Mos Eisley Starport that was from the previous tutorial, was a good form of introducing you in the Galaxies World.
  • Quests for Traders and Entertainers: they seem to be the worst to get xp. A Trader or an Entertainer takes a lot of time to lvl up, even the firsts lvls. Fixt that problem plz.

Cities:

  • A bit of order. As you walk through Tatooine, a desert planet, not even made 1 meter, you se a house, a soler device, a chemical extractor... That’s too bad. Yes, we’re too many. But we could organize more, and put all the houses in some player cities. And those players who aren’t playing you, Devs, could pack their houses in their datapad. You’d see how much free space there’s in a planet.
  • Master Politician: I think that to have a permission to build a city, or to place your home, you must have master in politician. But not as it is now, because everyone who places a house has automatically master in politician. I mean that politician must be a profession that you have to work hard in order to have few people with the rights of building up a city. That would be better.
  • Parcking Garages: what are they for if speeders have always 100% condition? I think that you could make them again “susceptible” of crashes and time, as it was. Put Decays again.
  • Make Guild Halls portable, that should make more easy to clean the worlds. (suggestion made by Ospef)

Other Matters:

  • Health: in the past, when you where killed, for example, by a Krayt Dragon, your life bar reduced, in order to represent that you broke a leg or something like that. That was good, and that was what combat medics and entertainers (or even Hotels) were for, to cure that injuries. It would be good to put it again.
  • Bazaar: Take out the maximum price of it, people doesn’t use it because what they wanna sell is more expensive.
  • Gifts from Expansions: you could make them “craftable” (BARC speeder for example), or by introducing CH for the hunting techniques to be able to hunt and domesticate a Volotaur.
  • Stims, and other Buffer objects should be more powerful or erased. Nobody use them, well only low lvl characters. They were better in the past.

Stims are worthless now, and they are expensive to boot. It will buy you about 1 extra hit from your opponent (stim D's), so unless the battle is down to the wire, they are a waste. Crafters need to be able to craft better food yes, but also the stomache needs to be returned. I know in real life, I cant eat without also drinking something, why cant you do both in game now? (suggestion made by KalvarisCzerka)

  • Eating & Drinking: I think that you must improve that aspect. Because, as I said before, few people eats or drinks to get a buffer. What are domestic goods traders for? Probably better buffers for foods & drinks should be a good idea. Or making Player Characters eat and drink after at some hours or they would be penalized by a “Bad Buffer” until they eat.
  • MiniGames: some minigames, such as pazaak, sabacc, dejarik or even podracers. Maybe I’m wondering, but this would be a little thing that would make players be happier.
  • Power Weapons: that’s not essential, but it would be good to include some extra power weapons for low lvls, for example lvl 1 (for the Entertainers and Traders).
  • Return of Slicing to make easier the way for Traders and Smugglers (suggestion made by rwells7947).
  • More Star Wars vehicles. i think it's time we got the variety in starships, speeders, swoops, etc, Star Wars universe has, don't you?

I wonder this will make Devs work hard to improve SWG. I’m only a 1-year-experienced player, but I think you all will agre with me, with exceptions in some points. I invite you to combat and defend the real Galaxies: the one on the top of the MMORPG’s list. Make SOE know their clients are looking for a good online game of Star Wars and not a game on the bottom of the list.

Finally, SWG needs more advertising, at least out U.S.. In Spain (where I’m from), nobody nowadays knows what’s SWG. To painful.

Some good points:

  • Is that really the case now? I mean, i havent been killed by anyone 20 levels below me. The professions do need to be returned, along with decay on vehicles, which made long trips harder, but also more fun because you needed to find a place to get repairs, and thus utilize player cities.

    I didnt read this in your post I dont think, but I believe you should add (if you agree) removal of the ITV, which reduces the need to player city shuttleports, and increase the wait time to 5 minutes atleast.

    Similar to what the game was and what it SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT. The removed professions were the hardest blow the community took. Give back the RPG part of this game. Skill trees, wounds, battle fatigue, and social gatherings (cantina/med center) these are a few of the elements that made this game worth playing over others. Make Jedi a reward again. Visibility without forced pvp more of an incremented npc BH spawn near the Jedi.     Removing all those professions was the worst thing about the NGE.
    Now everyone just seems the same character with different graphics

    I like most of these ideas, except for two.

    Making the expansion rewards craftable, or even simply obtainable through a quest or something, should never happen. They're rewards for buying the expansion pack. If anyone and everyone was able to get them, then these rewards would become cheap and useless.
    If you want the reward, you should have to buy the expansion, plain and simple.

    As for the second thing, though this is just how I feel, I don't think Jedi should be in this game at all, except as NPCs. Players should be able to train themselves to be Force Sensitive with work, yes, but they should never be full-fledged Jedi waving around lightsabers or Force Choking people. The most you should be able to get it perhaps two Force powers, such as healing and Force Push, and a few general abilities to increase your accuracy, health, stamina, ect. No one should ever be a full Jedi, just slightly FS.
    Of course, if you did become slightly FS, you would have a chance of being hunted by the Empire.

    Yes, Galaxies got more than 1,000,000 players in the hole world, but now we're only 900,000 aprox.

    Wow, you have a lot of good ideas...  I think the best themes of your post are increased complexity and interdepence.  I for one would love to see the return of slicing, and for any system in which smugglers facilitate the flow of spice into the economy.  I was kicking around the idea of a kind of semi-permanent de-buff that you'd have to see a medic/doctor to alleviate.  Finally as much as I love playing jedi, I would agree that the jedi class is the source of a lot of strife/hate/grief in the game.... and the sheer volume of the jedi population doesn't fit into the storyline.

    Lets hope a dev actually reads this lol, but I wouldn't hold my breath
