But my sporadic posting habits probably mean that a lot of you don't recognize me. I received a PM just recently from a positively ancient player asking me who I was.
I definitely need to post more.
I started on SWG as a world-builder back in 2001. Since then I've moved on to systems design and implementation, did a stint as Content Lead for Jump to Lightspeed and the Rage of the Wookiees expansion, then Live Systems Lead during the development of Trials of Obi-Wan.
These days I am Lead Game Play Designer, which so far has been an awful lot like being a Systems Lead, with a little broader purview.
Just as Chris Cao described here, "Expect to see designers responsible for quests, items, characters, special abilities and general systems to engage you on the specifics of those topics".
So, Here I am!
Brace yourselves for more designers whose names you might not recognize introducing themselves, and then following-up to address any specific concerns you might have. Naturally, we won't be able to respond to every post, but be assured there will definitely be a lot more dev's eyes on your feedback.
So you worked on the game since 2001. How did it feel to see all that work put down the toilet with the NGE. Though you got paid for it. The players that lost 80% of the stuff they worked hard for didnt. Do you give a damn about players that have been playing this game since its launch. Cause it really doesnt show, lets take Jedi which was an incredibly difficult profession to gain and even harder to master. And what did they get when you made it open to everyone and easy to grind out. A colour crystal a robe and the ability to go blue glowly. Do you think this is respecting your veteran players that invested much of their time and effort into this game?

Now step back up to the mic, and lets hear your direction for this game as you are now a lead designer.
As you have already posted "Were going to stop promising a Smuggler revamp that we never deliver on"
That to me sounds like where you need to direct your focus.

Hey I remember you. You were that guy saying this thing is "just so much fun" right? I think I read your blog once.
Can you do us al a favor and go get all the people who left and force them to agree with you so that there is actually a population on each server? kthx in advance
I wanted to just say thanks for introducing yourself in this effort to make SWG a better game for all of us.
I have been around since launch and quite frankly, I thought the Pre-CU system, while it had its flaws, was the best of all for SWG as it promoted one of the important intangables of an MMO game, community. And from the introduction of the holo-grind onward, that community has been slowly deteriorating.
I understand that we are not going to "turn back the clock" and go back to that pre-cu world, but as long as you guys are listening I will offer all that I can to help move SWG forward in the best possible direction for us all.

----- The Eternal Wanderer has wandered completely out of the SWG universe somehow and now finds herself enjoying The Saga of Ryzom. It is most of what SWG could have been, and many things it never will be. (Please PM me if you would like to know more)
Rather than immediately hit you with a bug list or questions regarding SWG, I would like to introduce myself to you. I am an over-30 college graduate with a great wife and a full-time job in construction management. I go by the nickname Guam and I have been playing SWG for roughly two years. I have been on the forums for about 1-1/2 years. SWG is the first and only MMORPG I have ever had any interest in playing. Prior to SWG, I tried a few online FPS games (remember Delta Force?), but none really held my interest. Other than PC games, my gaming experience has been limited to the Atari 2600...I have never owned a Nintendo of any sort, or any other "modern" console. I still have my original fully-functional 2600 concole, which I break out every so often for the amusement of my friends and guests.
I have played a Smuggler character named Guamarhea Bals (pronounced gwah-mah-ree-ah bollz) on the Eclipse server from almost the moment I bought SWG. Guamarhea Bals has only ever mastered one elite profession: Smuggler. Post-NGE, I respec'd Guamarhea into the Iconic Smuggler profession. I also created a Trader (Structures) named Siev Nebl (pronounced see-ev neh-bil) after the NGE, using my second character slot on Eclipse.
I enjoy role playing and taking the time to experience the content in-game instead of rushing through quests as fast as possible. I am not a power-gamer by any stretch. I also enjoy finding new and unique ways to incorporate the content you folks provide into my own stories and activities in-game. As a Smuggler, I am eagerly looking forward to the day that a functional and interesting Smuggling System is implemented, as well as an Underworld Faction so I can use them to compliment my activities.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. As long as you are listening, I will do my best to continue providing constructive and useful feedback.
I look forward to seeing more of you on the boards, and hope to meet you in-game!
I just wanted to add
this: If by posting -- complete, unedited and unadultered -- the words
of your Lead Game Play Designer, which he posted on his well-known and
publically open blog, I've violated some posting rule, I heartily
apologize. I do ask that someone notify me WHICH rule I broke, if
that's the case.
Giving me alone
full credit for the NPE is grossly unfair to the many, many people I
work with. That wasn't the intention of that update, though it is what
many people took it to say. Because it was so misunderstood, I removed
it.

Please don't repost it any more.
Then why don't you explain yourself if what you wrote was so misunderstood. We would love to hear your clarifications and justifications for what you've done to this game.

Because then the explanation would be misunderstood and then I would have to explain that, and so on and on.
We're a big team and we all worked really hard on the NPE.
As for answering questions about why we made these changes, you can read thathere.
I really couldn't explain it better than that if I tried.
