Please enlighten me as to WHY you think anyone with more than 3 or 4 years of experience in Networking or Programming wouldn't instinctively know SQL inside and out?
Oh, and Smed. I'm getting the feeling you are cherry-picking posts. I'd very much appreciate a response to mine.
Not what I was saying. I know SQL/Oracle, it's hardly "easy stuff" and anyone who thinks they can recreate the pre-cu game (and for more than 4 people playing at once) is high. Seriously. Good luck with that far fetched dream though.
"cherry picking" posts? you've got to be kidding me. I should only answer the "this game is great.. keep up the good work posts"
Smed
Could you respond to an Entertainer's post then please? It would be nice to get a response on why our revamp was cancelled.
2+ month Publish cycle means I am waiting over a year before Entertainers are scheduled to even have a use again. Not before they DO. Just before they are scheduled to.
I don't think that's right. And more than that, I do not think that my profession should be an AFK grind mechanism to help people exploit respecs and get to level 90 in hours/days.
Devs? Can someone answer this please.
Smed
The entertainer revamp that was being worked on would not have addressed the issues that you all are asking for. We could have released what we had worked on, but you wouldn't have liked it. We delayed it so that we could do it right.
Very Good Answer IMO. I've only dabbled in Entertainer in the past, so what one would enjoy or not enjoy I can't speak to. My question is more along the lines of how do you determine what we will and won't enjoy? It's been my experience (your perception may be different) that changes are made with only a reactionary input from actual players and worse massive changes (the hardest to fix/rollback) are often dropped with little warning to reduce negative reaction.
Maybe more polls to get a quick feel if you're on the right track (just off the top of my head thinking about the bazaar poll). Without getting into too many flame wars, you could get a gut check feel to see if you're really moving in the direction the player base wants.
We gather information using polls, feedback on the forums, and focus tests.
Then why don't you use the feedback from the forums? I mean come on, were you there during the PRE CU riot thing in the gameplay forums I believe, it is proof that WE want pre cu back much more than this other crap. The polls could be effective, but you make dumb topics like the "Bazaar" poll. Make some serious polls that may alter gameplay. Heck, even make "Which game experience was the best" poll, get ready for pre cu to win, because that is what WE, the paying customers who have kept this game alive, Want.
You guys show through your actions that we don't have input, but you claim we do. We don't, and until you decide to listen, we just going to stay pissed off.
We recognize that the current profession system doesn't allow for any real level of character differentiation. As such, we're currently working on an "Expertise" system, that grants the players "points" to spend on specialization. The expertise system gives the profession system a similar feel to what we had pre-nge as far as character customization goes. The tech for this system is being developed for the next publish (this won't be visible to you guys). The publish after that, we're looking at pushing out the first two professions's worth of expertise trees, with two professions targeted for every publish after that. Generally speaking, we'll have three trees for each profession to choose from, including a GCW tree and a "path" tree that will hold things like "dark" and "light" side powers for Jedi, for instance (or droid specializtion, vs poisons for Bounty hunters - for instance).
That's the plan.
But if you cant drop it once its done WHATS THE USE!!!!!!!!!!!
I use to be TKM - Pistolier - Smuggler OMG thats was fun
JetStrike wrote: Smed, could you increase the XP made off of killing creatures, OR add quest xp to terminal missions?
at least until there are more quests added to the game, it would be very nice for us all, the xp nerf on kashyyyk was a kick in the teeth for all player's below lvl 60.
Smed please take a look at this post.
please smed, also consider Quest XP for space quests.
sorry to bump my own post again
Although this isn't the fix you guys are looking for, it at least makes the game bearable until there is enough quests in the game
PLEASE respond to this..

I know you guys are swamped, but we really would like to know this.

We are working on a fix for this. We understand this is an important community issue and are working to solve it as quickly as possible.
So what u gonna do? Raise xp for quests? Add more quests? Or just raise xp for kills?
Raising XP for kills is a great idea, that will make it more fun to solo grind. Also let low levels group with high levels to grind XP again.
Nairb3 wrote: Smed I hope this sort of QA session is not going to be a one time thing its great seeing all this feedback.
It won't be a one time thing. I will do more of it if the threads are as productive as this one. In the recent past it's been a ton of anger and less feedback that's useful. I can only say "no rollback" so many times.
I know you guys are totally agaisnt that LS Mod that's been posted about, but have you devs actually tried it? It's not half bad, still a bit jerky. if it was made so that the damage was still being delt at the same rate, as long as you held the button down. Couldn't you just add the animations in as that Mod did just so it's more entertaining to watch our guys fight?
lol this whole thread is a joke, they have to come on here and try to fix the rumors that have been started because It was "thier" choice to ruin the game. Everything that they are calling new content is just old and refurbished, we are waiting 2 more months at least for bases they took out that worked fine with minor bugs. The combat system was dull? dont you play WoW? So of course it would seem dull to a casual WoW mmo player, you know what i find dull, i can bring some scotch tape in my room and afk it all night, no more need for a macro
First of all I want to let the devs and you smed know that the kind of honest answers you all gave to day are very much appreciated. I have a much better idea of where you are going with this game and what you are trying to accomplish. Thank you for that.
Unfortunately for me and several other players the game is just not very enjoyable at the moment and I see that you understand that fact. Many things you as well as Hellios and Rouge_5 mentioned are great ideas and will certainly help a lot in the long run. But let's be real here, at the rate publishes are going right now (I know you are trying to make them the best you can) this game will be now where near the vision you and the devs have within this year. You said yourself that the game hasn't reached a "baseline fun level" yet and I must agree. As much as I loved this game and the outstanding comunity it had and still has, I just can't see my self paying for a game I just can't stand to play much longer.
So here are my questsions:
How long do you estimate (I know that things can change and it would be hard to tell) will it take untill the "baseline fun level" is reached?
Will publishes continue to take 2-3 months to hit live servers?
Since this game is much more quest oriented there needs to be a lot more of them. Could we possibly see something along the line of a monthly story arc again or something similar?
I am very fearfull of what you are planing for crafters from what I've read. Could you or a dev please elaborate on what your plans are for this profession? Will it be more of a support profession (supplying repair kits, upgrades, etc.) or will it remain a business with individual products the player can be proud of?
Since I missed the first part of your Q&A session I hope you still get to read and answer these. Thanks in advance.
"We gather information using polls, feedback on the forums, and focus tests."
Could you please put up a poll, start a feedback thread, and run focus tests for Entertainers then?
We are in a vacuum of communication, other than that having a purpose in-game is not currently scheduled for the next year.
You have already replied twice without giving us any indication that the delay is towards a goal. All we have been told was "It wasn't good enough for you."
And I'll tell you something. It's not good enough right now either.
So what are you going to do about it besides delaying and delaying and delaying? As Mr. Smedley said, it's only what you guys do that is going to count for us. So at least put us on the Publish Plan or do something to make me believe there is a reason to stay subscribed to a game where my entire playstyle has been made useless.

I would be happy to submit my application for manager of CS. I've been working in Customer Service roles since my days in High School working at Six Flags over Texas. I've supervised teams of CSRs and Analysts before. I bet I could get this straightened out.

and yet you just removed 2 missions which could have acted as a temporary fix allowing people to level in your latest hotfix !! good going

I will say, that this gives me the hope I needed to stay. Thanks
and BTW this is getting crazy....I cant even keep up wit the posts, Im lagging about 5 pages behind
I have seen great improvements in bug repair, but still more needed.
Do you realize that about 90% of your playerbase is forced to run on the lowest graphical settings to play the game efficiently? Framerate and Loop Latency are a huge issue in the game. Maybe even more than diversity. With my programming experience, I know it's not that hard of a thing to fix. Letting us run a 100Mhz refresh rate and removing the framerate caps(or at least increasing them to account for overhead) should help. Loop latency is a little more difficult to tackle and having little knowledge of the client->server connection(TCP/UDP?) and the protocol being used all I can say is that it's bloated. Are you guys sending full strings of information to the clients? Maybe you should move to a setup where 3-digit numbers are being passed back and forth with the arguments behind. Look at the IRC and HTTPD RFC's for good examples(ig. '404' instead of "Document not found" - that's 17 bytes not being sent every single time).
Most of what I can tell without pissing your lawyers off and RE'ing the client, is that the client->server chatter is bloated(according to watching bandwidth usage during certain items).
Ok we have all asked for this question to be answered many times. (I have been asking since page 53! )
Will you guys be able to add more quests soon for xp? Or can you just raise the xp for creature kills until more quests come out? So far it is impossible to level up. I have done all the worthwhile quests and am stuck at lvl 78. I dont see a real way to get 500k xp anytime soon.
We are looking into getting the xp for creature kills raised.
What about bringing back the bonus for hunting in groups?
No. At one time we were working on an expansion. In the Comlink I posted earlier today, I announced our change in direction. We want to focus solely on the live game.
