Please enlighten me as to WHY you think anyone with more than 3 or 4 years of experience in Networking or Programming wouldn't instinctively know SQL inside and out?
Oh, and Smed. I'm getting the feeling you are cherry-picking posts. I'd very much appreciate a response to mine.
Not what I was saying. I know SQL/Oracle, it's hardly "easy stuff" and anyone who thinks they can recreate the pre-cu game (and for more than 4 people playing at once) is high. Seriously. Good luck with that far fetched dream though.
"cherry picking" posts? you've got to be kidding me. I should only answer the "this game is great.. keep up the good work posts"

Could you respond to an Entertainer's post then please? It would be nice to get a response on why our revamp was cancelled.
2+ month Publish cycle means I am waiting over a year before Entertainers are scheduled to even have a use again. Not before they DO. Just before they are scheduled to.
I don't think that's right. And more than that, I do not think that my profession should be an AFK grind mechanism to help people exploit respecs and get to level 90 in hours/days.
Devs? Can someone answer this please.

The entertainer revamp that was being worked on would not have addressed the issues that you all are asking for. We could have released what we had worked on, but you wouldn't have liked it. We delayed it so that we could do it right.

Are Politicians and Player Cities factored in any future plans for SWG? Right now, both are a mess. Everyone is a Politician. Player Cities are absolute ghost towns. Politicians have very little control over their cities and no content to speak of.
As an actual Elder Politician, I believe I speak for the entire Politician community when I say we would love some more communication of what is happening with our profession. At the very least, tell us we aren't included in any plans of any sort as of now -- if that's the truth.
Thanks.

Why take away crafting spice? I enjoyed it and if some smugglers didnt they didnt have to.
Why take away slicing - same? I enjoyed it and if some smugglers didn't they didn'y have to.
Why take away bases - I enjoyed grouping with friends on a regular basis for this and now vets are left with nothing execpt pvp for the "GCW"
Why take away faction pets? They werent that good anyway...but most enjoyed them.
Slicing type gameplay will return with the reverse-engineering game for traders. GCW bases (not to be confused with battlefields) will be making a combeback in an upcoming publish. One of the systems guys is looking into updating these as we speak. Faction pets are coming back as part of GCW expertise trees (see my post above).
does this mean traders wont craft and you will be doing NPC crafting?
Let me address your point head on. - SWG never attracted the size audience that the Star Wars license delivered in the first place. One of those reasons was combat wasn't exciting enough. We have done enough research on the people who quit or people that didn't purchase the game to know this is a hard, brutal cold fact. Could we have gone a different direction with the combat? Yes. Could we in the future change this direction? Yes. Do I think we will? No. Why? Because I don't believe that this will be an issue if we solve the other half of the equation - making the professions feel different... and making the content really exciting. If we asked you all to rank Combat vs. the loss of professions, I'm betting the loss of professions will "win" every time... I don't think the new combat style is the main thing that people are bothered by. It's the broad strokes changes to the rest of the game. What we've done is to get the game to a much more basic level that we can build on. I submit to you that if we achieve our other goals, this style of combat won't be an issue. The fact is the data we have suggest that for the people that DO sign up for the game they like the combat. For the people that don't, combat isn't the main issue we're losing them.

Just a small point here. Games like WoW, are advertised everywhere, I see it in the newspapers, in magazines, on the net. When I first started playing SWG, it wasn't from an ad, it was from another game. Not even an MMO game. That leaves me to believe that you were asking your community to be your advertisers for free instead of actually getting out there and letting the world know you existed. If you had placed some of that extra funding into advertising SWG instead of constantly changing it, you might have had a larger player base, instead of what you have now...which is a lack of trust from your community, and even from the potential new players. You've created a galaxy that is filled with bitter people, and guess who your new players meet and talk to when they first log in? By failing your community, your failing your game, no matter how great it becomes. If we're going to save SWG, you really need to start by at least compromising with your customers. If you just worry about making the game the way YOU want it, then only the ones like YOU will play it. There really does need to be something for everyone. YOU may not want to be Uncle Owen, but maybe someone else does.
Ok this isn't one of the areas we've fallen down in. We've even had TV commercials, something that most MMO's (including WoW btw) haven't ever done. In fact we were the first until DDO did it on Sci-Fi Friday a few weeks back for the BSG finale.

I believe Ausoshi's point was the OLD game wasn't advertised well enough. You have certainly advertised this game since the NGE. But if the previous game (pre-CU) had been advertised more, you likely would have seen the subscriber numbers boost significantly. All water under the bridge now. Or is it over? I can never remember.
I think we were always in a "we'll advertise it more when it's ready for the masses" mode. Was that good? Probably in light of the fact that we didn't have a game that less hardcore players wanted to play.
Smed
John,
I have to call you out on this since you keep repeating it over and over. I fail to see how the old game was so 'hardcore'. SWG probably had by far the oldest (in age) average player base of any MMORPG on the market. Also, to a huge amount of this player base, this was their very first MMO.
This demographic is hardly what would be considered the typical (15-23 year old) hardcore gamer. But somehow they found away to not only figure out how to play this game, but also in many cases, even get their spouses involved who didn't play video games at all.
This argument just doesn't fly.
BTW, thank you for your responses and candor today. I really think that your stubborness will do you in, but I appreciate the fact that you are here and posting at all.

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but worth asking - are the faction pets going to be the same as before, or will there be more diversity? Have you considered profession-specific options such as padawans for jedi (light and dark), subordinates for officers, etc?
Will you ever make if so that we can respec without using kits/destroying toons...?
Respec NPCs are going with pub 28.
Hrm,
The reasons to stay with SWG are increasing. The ability to change profs and keep my toon was one of the main selling points of SWG for me.

Helios_SOE wrote: You're right. The current loot game within SWG is in direct opposition to the trader profession. That's why we're changing what traders are and how they operate so that they operate in congruence and harmony with the current loot game. While no concrete plans have been made, I suspect schematics, mass harvesting, factory crafting and similar aspects of the current trading game to be adapted to something more suitable.
Me and my friends used to have immense fun running our own resource business...we'd go out hunt down resources and mine them, yet it seems that SOE doesn't understand that element of the game play. IS there any advocates for Traders in the dev team?
Add to the game, yes. change the game, possibly (we've been burnt before by 'changes') but do not dumb down crafting. It's one of the best systems out there and it'd be criminal to nerf it.

There has been an outcry on the forums for a roll back. As i understand the term Rollback it would mean rerurning to the old system and scrapping everything that happened since the NGE.
Please clearly state weather this is even possible and discribe what the end results would be if it were?
I will jump in and answer this honestly:
We are not doing a roll back. We are not planning a roll back. We are not discussing a roll back. Once again, we are not doing a roll back.I
Can you see the game being bug free? I can't.
I want a rollback mainly to get rid of the bugs, the bugs are the main things killing SWG, not the actual NGE. NGE code on top of the CU and pre-CU has just totally stuffed things up. I can't see the game ever getting fixed, unless there is a rollback, and the CU is worked upon.
Here's a bold goal -
Let's get all the bugs out of the game within 6 months. Maybe we won't hit it, but that's what we're shooting for.
Smed
6 Months?? Why does SOE continue to charge a monthly fee for a broken game.. The CU had a few bugs, but not like this. And what about Collision Detection throughout the game?
Thank you to those who has reply saying that the whole thing with the "Secret Project" was from Swede... hopefully Smed will comment on the fact that Light has SHINED on the "Secret Project" subject...
(oh & Pres. Smed.... what about 2 - 6... any comments???)
please link to this post you're talking about and I'll try and find out what it refers to.

Swede bowed out of spearheading some issues, and speculations snowballed from there...
well, here is a Link to what Swede said... any response {Please don't fire Swede...}
There is no secret project. We are doing a really new cool event which we will be showing off at E3.
So it is a secret until E3 which makes it a SECRET PROJECT.
Hi everyone,
Lots of talk about the "secret" project which really isn't a secret anymore. We are doing a playable demo for E3 and Swede is working on the team that is putting that together. The project is actually going to be larger then just the demo and become a new themepark with a GCW theme (lots of Rebels v. Imperials) to it, which will be put into the game in publish 29.
The intention of this themepark is to cover our bases with E3 and develope a new set of repeatable, high end content for all of you.
The expansion team, which is no more, is now working on nothing but high end content that will be sent out in our regular publishes.

I'm going to ask this for the 4th time now, hoping you'll shed some light on this. I'm a day 1 (beta 3) vet, so I'm hoping you'll answer this for the sake of a long time vet.
You mentioned the possibility of guilds having their own capital starships such as star destroyers. I'd like to know what is the status of capital ships given that there is now no expansion on the horizon. Will we be seeing them implemented as free content? What about combat vehicles such as AT-ATs (which I've yet to see in a combat role in 3 years)?
If we got to the point where we had the time to do this, I suspect it would be an expansion. It was in the plans for the future. Right now we're focused on the core game and making it better.
What you said would be cool.. and it's a dream of ours and has been for a long time!
Smed
what about mini expansions like eq2 get theres a vampire one it costs like 4 dollars
Not until we have improved this game by a lot. Will we do content like this? Yes.. although maybe not all in one bunch.. but you will get more content.
