Mr Smedley - I commend you for taking time to answer many questions on this thread. I think this has been of enormous benefit.

It's taken me an hour to read through all the posts and it just goes to show how passionately the community feels about NGE and the recent changes. If only you'd payed the same attention to the player base before the NGE was introduced, I don't think we'd be in the mess we are in now.

If nothing else, this thread has given you some free advice on what the community wants - please don't waste this opportunity. We don't want minor tweaks and XP nerfs - the recent hotfixes have barely fixed any issues. We want more content and bug fixes please., preferably asap.

One last thought - if we aren't paying to play a beta, how come so many of the profession quests aren't available ?

Thanks for input today and I hope that you and the rest of the SWG team take notice of the community feedback - despite the sometimes negative feedback, we WANT the game to succeed. Today was a good start - please restore our faith in this game.

Will we ever see Clothing and Armor Attachments drop again? Crafters right now are getting screwed because they can't get any more experimentation points since they aren't dropping.

Someone from the dev team please answer this question.

Smed

The reverse engineering system planned for the trader revamp will replace things like clothing and armor attachments.  In the mean time, it's unlikely that we will add content that will be replaced with an upcoming publish.  So the short answer is we don't plan on adding too much to trader until we do their revamp.

There has been overwhelming demand and support for skill enhancement attachments to be brought back into the game. I do not understand why you developers are so resistant to something that benefits most professions and will make the vast majority of players happy? Is it so difficult to introduce NGE specific SEA's? The trader revamp is 8-10+ months away at the current rate of publishes, so why not SEA's now?

Devs, I have a valid quesiton for you... I don't think you've already answered it.. if so.. my bad.

What I would like to know is.. is anything being done about the broken "action packed" combat system? Like the issue of it being so fast that servers can't keep up with it. For example, the MAJOR iusse with speicals not working... getting messeges like "You can not attack while fighting".. and so on and so on.. Do you know if it is being addressed?

Still waiting... maybe this is being dodged?

Smed,

The truth is I've got 1 week left in my last account with this game. I really tried bud to follow with the NGE but enough was enough and I had nothing to do in the game anymore that was fun. What can you give me to make me stay? Visions are not enough anymore. You talked a few times of building trust with the customers.. What do you have? What can you do to make me reconsider my account? Your a business man and know the value of the almight dollar.. I'm sure you realize that if your spending money on something and it does not give you any return then it's wasted money.  I really never wanted to come down to the time where I decided to let my accounts go. Trust is a hard thing to earn, and I think you can admit that some trust has been damaged here. What can you do to help me really feel secure that your team has a true vision that would include me?

The truth is the community morale won't improve until the game does. Communication can't fix this. Improvements to the game can. The fact is our communication has improved.. people don't neccessarily like the message is all. I get that. So do our community folks. My preference is that all the posts in the gameplay forum are discussing gameplay balance.. and in-game issues.. but they won't until we get the game to a baseline fun level. We're not there yet. We know that. We're working to fix it. There is no other answer.

Smed

Wow. An offical representative saying the game is hurting. This does give me hope. Not much. But some. We have seen in the past that what is said may not come to pass. Be aware Smed, the community will hold you to the above statement.

The SWG community has been voting with it's feet since the NGE came about. Either we end up being right about our ability to turn the ship around and make a game that's BETTER than it was before, or we were wrong and we fail. Either way we were losing subs before the NGE and believe it or not, we are losing them at a slower rate than before. I'm not going to pretend we didn't lose a bunch of subs from this. We did. And I don't think the game is where it needs to be yet to aquire new subs. But it's getting there with each and every publish.

At the end of the day there are a lot of people in this community that wonder why we did this? Why did we "deliberately" try and piss people off. Obviously that wasn't our intent. This is a business and we needed to improve the results of the business. Did we make a mistake? Maybe.. but only time is going to tell on that one. One thing is certain. We made a mistake with how we presented it to the community, and for that I'm sorry. I still think it was a needed thing though. It's not as simple as "you should have just fixed the things we were complaining about". That doesn't address the very real fact that what we had was a hardcore game that wasn't going to attract the mass audience that the Star Wars IP brings to the table.

Smed

We are all here to help this game improve a complete system change was not needed. Changing crafting, yes the starter kit, yes adding quest based system, yes but not a complete system change.

Message Edited by RKO on 03-24-200609:47 AM

I respectfully disagree with your position on this. The profession system had fundemental flaws that couldn't be corrected and still be able to both balance the game and add meaningful content that made each profession really matter and be differentiated from the others. Was crafting absolutely the most amazing part of the game? Probably IMO. Can it still be a major part of the game? Hell yes.. and it will be. BUT that needs to be balanced with the fact that adventuring and killing things needed to have meaningful rewards as well to reach a more mainstream audience. I really hope you can see this point even if you don't agree with it.

Smed

When do you expect crafting to be what it once was Smed? I really would like to know this, when will I be able to utilize the best rescources that I spent hours upon hours collecting, when will krayt tissues be useful again, when will crafting no longer have one experimentation line, when, when, when? I dont understand that even after almost 6 months of the NGE, and with thousands even tens of thousands of posts 'internet' wide you still refuse to admit that this 'NGE' was a mistake, that the 'CU' was a mistake, the game didnt need simplification, the game needed a few adjustements to some class specials, and a few class abilities.

Everyone needed to have the ability to target all three pools, docs / medics / cm's needed the ability to heal all three pools, and secondary stat buffs should have been removed.

But I guess that was too much and to simple for us to have...

I'm going to ask this for the 4th time now, hoping you'll shed some light on this.  I'm a day 1 (beta 3) vet, so I'm hoping you'll answer this for the sake of a long time vet.

You mentioned the possibility of guilds having their own capital starships such as star destroyers.  I'd like to know what is the status of capital ships given that there is now no expansion on the horizon.  Will we be seeing them implemented as free content?  What about combat vehicles such as AT-ATs (which I've yet to see in a combat role in 3 years)?

If we got to the point where we had the time to do this, I suspect it would be an expansion. It was in the plans for the future. Right now we're focused on the core game and making it better.

What you said would be cool.. and it's a dream of ours and has been for a long time!

the ability to /dock with enermy ships and OWN them on thier own ship once thier shields are down would ROCK!!!!!..PVP SPACE CAN BE SOOOO COOL

this in fact is very true, but just because your hardcore doesnt mean you can attract the masses. ffxi does it very well. and you know why, cause they actually take the time to put in quality systems into the game instead of half arsed systems. just look at the bounty hunter system smed. your devs are adding a bounty hunter system that is totally exploitable. why do i feel its exploitable, because as soon as a person gets killed there will be a ton of bh's bounty checking whoever killed that person and kiling him quick cause they only have ten minutes. thats not very enjoyable fo those who are in the middle of pvp. oh and dont let me forget the fact that your introducing a bounty hunter system based on the gcw pvp system that you havent even fixed yet. now smed im not trying to get in you train of thought, but dont you think that if you goiung top make a bh system based off of the gcw, then the gcw should be fixed first so that people can enjoy pvp and be ok about bh's coming to kill them immediatly while in battle. i mean you guys just arent making sense with that.

the same thing with crafting and the same thing with gaining xp. you guys are fixing things in the wrong order and thats why were are pissed now.

Allow me to respectfully disagree with your point here - Star Wars as an IP is every bit as capable of delivering a WoW level audience. The reason it isn't is the game needs to be that good. No, not the SAME game.. but it needs to be that good and polished. Everyone thinks we are trying to make SWG like WoW or EQ2. That's completely not the case. Yes, we're going to a more rigid class based system and are doing more linear content.. but that's where the similarities end IMO. In theory we still have an incredibly deep and rich system based MMO that can deliver some world class gameplay once we live up to your expectations.

Smed

I think what you, SOE and LA is stuck on is this: you've seen how successful the Star Wars Battlefront games have been, even the adds for BF2 claim its the sequal to the "most sucessful Star Wras game of all time", and wonder why SWG isn't that successful. So you guys try and make SWG into more of a FPS type game in hopes to capitalize on BF success. It doesn't work like that. If its a crappy game people won't want play it. Look at Force Commander and Star Wars: Battlegrounds. Both of them Star Wars games, both of them weren't very good or fun. Even you agree that SWG isn't fun right now. A half-breed, half-baked rpg/fps game isn't going to be anymore succesful than it was before.

Soe's and swg's reputations are very low in the mmo world right now, and you only have yourselves to blame. And like you said, many people have already passed judgement with their feet.

Can you see the game being bug free? I can't.

I want a rollback mainly to get rid of the bugs, the bugs are the main things killing SWG, not the actual NGE. NGE code on top of the CU and pre-CU has just totally stuffed things up. I can't see the game ever getting fixed, unless there is a rollback, and the CU is worked upon.

Here's a bold goal -

Let's get all the bugs out of the game within 6 months. Maybe we won't hit it, but that's what we're shooting for.
