We recognize that the current profession system doesn't allow for any real level of character differentiation. As such, we're currently working on an "Expertise" system, that grants the players "points" to spend on specialization. The expertise system gives the profession system a similar feel to what we had pre-nge as far as character customization goes. The tech for this system is being developed for the next publish (this won't be visible to you guys). The publish after that, we're looking at pushing out the first two professions's worth of expertise trees, with two professions targeted for every publish after that. Generally speaking, we'll have three trees for each profession to choose from, including a GCW tree and a "path" tree that will hold things like "dark" and "light" side powers for Jedi, for instance (or droid specializtion, vs poisons for Bounty hunters - for instance).
That's the plan.
In all honestly, the slow roll out of I can see being a problem from players standpoints. You're going to run into incessant crying from people who don't have their expertise in. Why not finish them all off before staggering a release like that?

Get rid of the "click to attack" and re-implement the F-keys system or you will never rebound from this disaster.

Smed I just paid 15$ to log in and ask you this since it looks like you are responding today.
My question is do you see a problem with time invesments that players put into the game and changes to the game that nullify that time investment?
The list of things in this catagory is so large I don't know where to start. Jedi, crafters, resources, skill tapes, loot that has been rendered worthless. I have a real problem playing any MMPORG game now because of the deep betryal by the LA/SOE joint project. The whole point of a MMORPG is to build a charector so if every 6 months your "work/investment" is flushed down the toilet what is the point?
For the record I think resources would have been better spent not trying to recreate the game but improve it. You recently mentioned guild run capitals IMO to give people a glimmer of hope. If you would have been adding these features like Capitals or hoth on the prcu this game/comunity would be in much better shape.
I still read the forums every day for hope but am unsure I would ever come back because of my question to you.
Well with that start to your post I feel obliged to respond
Yes, I see a problem with nullifying time investments. However I think to achieve a larger goal (mind you I'm not saying we HAVE achieved that goal) I think it's both fair and warranted. As long as we've been running our games I've gotten complaints from players about this subject. Other MMOs recieve the same complaints. Sometimes we have to "nerf" things. Sometimes we make design mistakes. When we do, often times we paint ourselves into corners that there are no good ways out of.. so we choose the way out that we think will in the end achieve the goal and be better overall.
I play a lot of games. I've had this happen to me on numerous occasions. I don't like it any better than you. I've even quit a game because I got so pissed about it. I don't think for a second though that there wasn't someone on the other end of that decision that was trying to do something to screw me. I think it was what they thought was best for the game.. right or wrong. So I've been in that position and that's the honest answer.
There has been an outcry on the forums for a roll back. As i understand the term Rollback it would mean rerurning to the old system and scrapping everything that happened since the NGE.
Please clearly state weather this is even possible and discribe what the end results would be if it were?
I will jump in and answer this honestly:
We are not doing a roll back. We are not planning a roll back. We are not discussing a roll back. Once again, we are not doing a roll back.I
even thought its what the customer wants you wont do it huh? I guess the customer isnt always right?

well, here is a Link to what Swede said... any response {Please don't fire Swede...}
There is no secret project. We are doing a really new cool event which we will be showing off at E3.
No offense MASTER R5, but this is complete **edit**, i meant no offense, but why are you sending several DEVs to work on something for E3... when you SHOULD "use" them to make this game BETTER....
well, that's got me scratching my head.
WHAT could they be doing for E3. Smed's already said there's no new expansion, P28 must SURELY be about in the can and there's not that much going into it that'll wow an E3 audience.
will we ever see a lock on target system agen? Will we ever get a skill sytem simmular, or like the one we had before? And do you think this gaem feel like Star Wars?
1) No target lock is planned or being discussed. 2) There will be additional skills for each profession, but not like the system before. I realize this is contriversial but there it is.
Smed
man this game is never going to get better.
why can't you do these things?
Message Edited by RKO on 03-24-200609:26 AM
Why can't we do these things?
1) Target lock - Believe it or not we talked long and hard about this one. If you seriously sit down and think about the nature of the NGE style of combat, it means that people need to be able to use actual skill to hit.If you take that away you need to go back to the more turn based system we had before. It just plain wouldn't work. Now you can make a legitimate argument that we shouldn't use this style of combat. I have no defense against that argument because nearly every other MMO out there uses that style of combat and clearly it works. What we are trying to do here is create a new style of gameplay. Does it work? Well.. for some people it does, and for others it doesn't. That's the truth. For myself, I prefer it to the old combat system which I personally found dull. But that's just my personal opinion. The reality is we've changed to the new system and we're moving forward. It isn't that we can't add target locking.. it's that wer'e not going to because there isn't a way to do it that wouldn't reduce the skill level needed.
2) The more rigid profession system we've switched to just doesn't lend itself to a skill system that's like what we had before.
Smed
ok, so by actual skill you mean that I can use pets, droids, mounts, and swoops to clutter the area so that my attacker cannot possible hit me? correct me if I am wrong....but how can you possibly imply that this current system takes more "skill" to use??? The new system has been so dumbed down from its former glory that instead of people saying.....what kind of tactics do I need to use in this next fight.....we now say..... is today my lucky day in PvP? duels that last 23 seconds ARE NO FUN AND TAKE NO SKILL......
skill implies........ using and knowing the limitations of ones mind bar for heals..... knowing what weapon works well against a certain armor......knowing when to launch your heals, specials, weapons, and other things in order to use tactics against your opponent. Having a system that when a gun listed max damage....IT ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING.....
correct me if I am wrong....but isnt the fact that we have a "fast paced combat system" the very reason that niether SOE nor LA have any idea how to fix the bniggest bug in the game right now?...HEALS not working? This one bug has been ignored and swept under the rug as-it-were.
you say you love PvP.....which profession do you prefer in this game for PvP.? what tactics do you enjoy? what weapon is your favorite and why?
you have to admit the fact that it took WAY more skill and knowledge (not just click click click click click click) to actually be good at this game...not just PvP
your thoughts sir

Ive played all Three systems and im sure ill get called a carebear for this or be told i sucked pre cu when in fact i didnt, but the nge is my favorite combat wise,However you are right about content Im CL90 and the last two weeks or so ive been so bored all i can do is run back and forth between houses,I love this game and High end content and profession fixes is definately what we need.
While i personally understand it takes time to get publishes out the long period between them lately is frustrating to everyone.
5 Issues/Questions I have
1.Can I get an answer if the Prepaid cards have been discontinued,They are becoming very hard to find and are my ONLY way of playing ,Alot of stores i go to tell me they arent coming back either this concerns me alot as its my only way to pay.
2.If there was a city purge even tho we all worked to get our metropolis cities why not lift some of the restrictions on citizen requirements so we can keep our civic structures like shuttleports, and cloners If there is a purge i stand to lose ALOT of people in my city and will probably end up as a lvl 2 village.
3.Decay,I'd keep that pvp only like planned and away from quest rewards but make it on standard craftable items,Its not easy to get something like a Lava Crystal Per say and i definately dont want to end up running quests 100 more times to get the whole guild one again lol.
4.This new bounty system,Someone like me is purely pve except for big weekend pvp events isnt there some way possible where we can get an option to "Opt in" at a bounty terminal so we cant be hunted if we dont want to be,I know plenty of people who want to and this new system will still be very much used but I personally want to see an option to say no to it.
5.You Eluded to guilds having a star destroyer,What is the status of this and when is it coming.
Just my 2 cents,I dont post much since i am a supporter of the NGE and most people only want to hear "PRE CU FTW" lol.
In my opinion you guys are going in the right direction but we need more content and more stuff to do,Its been so quiet around here lately from most of the devs,Keep going in time i know this game will be even better.
I actually have no clue why the prepaid cards aren't going out. LucasArts handles retail - Let me find out.

I know this is a loaded question, but I think the community deserves an answer. I know this is one of the things I've been upset about for a while.
Yes it's a loaded question, but I'll answer it. I think people that believe they are paying for a beta quit. Am I happy with the state of the game? No way. Do I think it's entertaining for a lot of people? Yes, or we wouldn't have subscribers. Is it good enough? Not yet.. no.
So no, I don't think people are paying for a beta. Again, I'm sure by the very nature of the question that you'll disagree.. but there it is.
Smed
I would like to respectfully disagree with you. I myself am one of these people. I know of many others that feel this way too. If you don't believe me, do a poll on it.
ok. Maybe you're right. I think what you're saying is "I'm a loyal customer that thinks the game isn't in shape to where I should be paying". Is it entertaining you?
Smed
I don't know how many people are like me, but so you know, I only pay for SWG now because it is part of my station pass. I would rather play SWG, but EQ2 is what I am playing now. I was paying for my 2nd account till last month. My third account I cancelled in January. I have played maybe 20 hours since the NGE hit, trying to give it a chance. Of those 20, about 2 have been in the last month. I really try to play, but it is almost heartbreaking right now to do so. I read the forums all day at work, everday. I jump on and try and play, but I can't, its terrible. So, I am paying. Am I being entertained? Let's hope EQ2 never gets this bad.
