ok... you said that there wasn't a "Secret Project"... yet Swede said that he and several other were being reassigned to work on a Project, that he couldn't discuss....
Perhaps its a forbidden sandwhich >_> _
MMMMMMMMMMMM Forbidden sandwhich.......
After a little bit of research, I have located his secret project!
Woow, that looks good. I haven't eaten yet. Odd, I used to skip meals for SWG....
This is the most 'into' the game I have been in a long time...
Good job Smed. Keep it going...

1) No target lock is planned or being discussed. 2) There will be additional skills for each profession, but not like the system before. I realize this is contriversial but there it is.
Smed
If you are not going to bring back target lock can you bring in mob collision detection so that we do not have mobs hiding in each other and such - that is where the lock on target is best but with the system the way it is now you fire ate a group and there is no way to keep on the same mob because they can travel within and through each other.

I actually think this is something that will make things a lot better. I'm not sure where it is in the pipeline of things to do, but I think having mobs not all bunch up will fix a lot of what people complain about. Unfortunately this is not a simple technical problem to solve. It sounds like it is, but on the server side the single biggest frame rate killer is collisions for a lot of reasons I won't get into. We need to solve this problem. I don't have an ETA yet though.
Any plans to slow down combat? As it is, its much to fast to be interesting.
Duels between players now last between 12-24 seconds. Nobody is asking for 20 mins heal wars like the days of pre-CU. But these short short duels are not interesting, imersive or iconic.
Our specials arent firing because the combat is to fast (im guessing its a technical reason). Our VERY limited options of specials and such are VERY boring and bland.
Jedi looks stupid in combat. Everyone i know has downloaded a saber mod that put all the old saber animations back in, and it was a 500% improvment just to watch.
Also.......WHEN WILL WE BEABLE TO SIT DOWN IN CANTINAS AGAIN!!!!!!
*ahem* sorry about that outburst, but as a entertainer and a roleplayer its pretty sad when we cant use chairs in public cantinas anymore.
Thank you for your time, and all your answers today.
"The truth is the community morale won't improve until the game does. Communication can't fix this. Improvements to the game can. The fact is our communication has improved.. people don't neccessarily like the message is all. I get that. So do our community folks. My preference is that all the posts in the gameplay forum are discussing gameplay balance.. and in-game issues.. but they won't until we get the game to a baseline fun level. We're not there yet. We know that. We're working to fix it. There is no other answer."

Very glad to see you interacting with the player base that is represented by the forums. While you are correct that "communication" will not improve morale in and of itself...it is a necessity in our society. Without it...companies have crumpled...wars have been lost...and families destroyed. You are doing a "great" job communicating today...as the many posts to this thread can attest to...and I for one, am glad to see it. Keep up the good work...and allow communication like this to occur more frequently and more openly. This will help the player base know what is going on with the game they "love" and have "bonded" with...as well as beginning the "healing" process for all those that feel their vocal outcry has fallen on deaf ears when it comes to SOE/LA.
Question: Know that the development time line often runs into snags, etc... that delay release of new content/fixes...but, is there any word yet on the status of Publish 28? Is it still a go, or has "new" material delayed its arrival even further?
/Cheers for more publishes with "new" content/fixes/etc...that doesn't require the purchase of a "new" expansion!
I've asked the devs to jump in - Rogue 5 - go ahead and bust out your current target live date (I will now wait as the dev team sends someone to beat me up). Last I heard mid-April with it going to test in early April.

I am a veteran player, playing since november of 2003. I'm not American, sorry for my little English. I have player pre-CU, CU and NGE. I don't love to post on the forums, I think that the devs will work and I will receive. But...
I have seen lots and lots of friengs leaving the game since I started playing. I like this game. I like the people in this game. Now, I am an elder Jedi. I play as an officer and I'm lvl 90. I have a jetpack, and I have helped to do a Mandalorian Armor. I've more than 125 badges. But I don't enjoy playing alone.
We need hope and illusions, Smedley. We were all waiting news about the expansion. Now, there isn't any expansion. We need content, things to do. I'm not talking about quests like the Syren ones. I am talking about dungeons like DWB, like the Corvette was in the past: difficult things to do in group. This is a MMORPG, not a ORPG...
Believe me, I'll play until you have to close the game, I'll continue here. But I want to continue with thinks to do. I want to say: "I am a SWG player" to my friends. I can't do it now, most of them laugh on me. Please, give us some news about content: dungeons, quests... what about the StarDestroyer quest? Or the Hutt Casino? What about new tools for running events? What about player city improvement? You can do great things like you do in EQ2, just do it. For us.
Thank you for reading me.

Unfortunately your point here is currently valid and we need to work on differentiation of the professions and differentiation within professions if we're going to succeed. That's being done now.

this is a good question. i would also liek to know what you are doing to make this change can we get some specific on what we can look forward to. al we know is you guys are going to give us new abilities, but thats not going to help much if everyone is still getting the same abilities. to differentiate us we have to be able to be different, lol
Smed, when the NGE came out you wrote an open letter that alluded to guilds having their own Star Destroyers possibly....
I'd like to know, what is the current status or plan for cap ships, considering that there is now no expansion on the horizon. Are they scheduled to be part of free content for the GCW publish? How about combat vehicles like AT-AT's?
He merely stated that to keep people's hopes up and to get as many people as humanly possible to keep paying subscriptions on a mere hope. If you read his original post about the CU you'll find that Smed himself has been leading the community on for just short of a year. Always dangling carrots and unfortunatly alot of us follow it. We've been lied to for close to a year now with the direction this game is taking. My best guess at this time its just one huge expensive experiment for SOE to see what is profitable and what isn't. Guess you can figure out what they've discovered from this experiment...
Smed, why is it that the dev team and you are always avoiding this one question?
Will we ever see Clothing and Armor Attachments drop again? Crafters right now are getting screwed because they can't get any more experimentation points since they aren't dropping.
Someone from the dev team please answer this question.
Did you not read what he said check highlight, so incase you have no clue and it is to complicated as Pre-CU was for you. That means they will not respond to it and I guess with your responce you won't either, lol. Ditch the modded clothes and bring back the CA's and AA's.
OK, I'm done with my gripe now so I'll be headed back to DDO for some "FUN" game play.
Let me address your point head on. - SWG never attracted the size audience that the Star Wars license delivered in the first place. One of those reasons was combat wasn't exciting enough. We have done enough research on the people who quit or people that didn't purchase the game to know this is a hard, brutal cold fact. Could we have gone a different direction with the combat? Yes. Could we in the future change this direction? Yes. Do I think we will? No. Why? Because I don't believe that this will be an issue if we solve the other half of the equation - making the professions feel different... and making the content really exciting. If we asked you all to rank Combat vs. the loss of professions, I'm betting the loss of professions will "win" every time... I don't think the new combat style is the main thing that people are bothered by. It's the broad strokes changes to the rest of the game. What we've done is to get the game to a much more basic level that we can build on. I submit to you that if we achieve our other goals, this style of combat won't be an issue. The fact is the data we have suggest that for the people that DO sign up for the game they like the combat. For the people that don't, combat isn't the main issue we're losing them.

Just a small point here. Games like WoW, are advertised everywhere, I see it in the newspapers, in magazines, on the net. When I first started playing SWG, it wasn't from an ad, it was from another game. Not even an MMO game. That leaves me to believe that you were asking your community to be your advertisers for free instead of actually getting out there and letting the world know you existed. If you had placed some of that extra funding into advertising SWG instead of constantly changing it, you might have had a larger player base, instead of what you have now...which is a lack of trust from your community, and even from the potential new players. You've created a galaxy that is filled with bitter people, and guess who your new players meet and talk to when they first log in? By failing your community, your failing your game, no matter how great it becomes. If we're going to save SWG, you really need to start by at least compromising with your customers. If you just worry about making the game the way YOU want it, then only the ones like YOU will play it. There really does need to be something for everyone. YOU may not want to be Uncle Owen, but maybe someone else does.
Ok this isn't one of the areas we've fallen down in. We've even had TV commercials, something that most MMO's (including WoW btw) haven't ever done. In fact we were the first until DDO did it on Sci-Fi Friday a few weeks back for the BSG finale.
You are only 3 posts away from trips! You started today with only 22 and got a set of steak knives when you hit 44. Anyone have any ideas for what we should do if he hits 66?

I find it extremely funny that Smed has twice asked for devs to step in and help on this discussion and none have stepped up yet. Personally if i was a red name i would avoid this threed like the plague.
yeah i notice the lack of other Devs or TH in this thread ponders if they all giggling in corneer going oh god hes gone post crazy
- NEG like Marmite you love it or hate it the only kind of protest that means anything is this one:
Secret Poject? Where do people come up with this stuff. ALL developers on SWG are focused on the publish plan you saw. We were in the preliminary planning/design stages of a design for an expansion pack a few months back. When we saw how much work the live game needed and the reaction from both the community and the focus groups we dropped those plans. We can worry about that later.

My question is this, you keep saying "we ain't there yet" and what I am wondering is, if you are not there yet, why was it rushed out? Why did you rush out the Pre-CU in a broken state, why did your rush out the CU in a broken state, and why did you rush out the NGE in a broken state?
Have you considered that maybe the reason stopped playing the pre-cu game was because it was broken, not because of the Turn-Based system or because it was "complicated"?
Also, to another comment you made, I do not doubt that your cancealations are not at the same level they were before the NGE, but have you consider that that might be because there is no one left to canceal?
I guess what disapoints me the most is that you seem to keep blaming the Combat System or the number of professions in the Pre-CU and CU for the decreasing the subscriptions, when the reality is (based on talking to the people I know that quit) that it was the unfinsihsed and broken aspects of the game that turned people away as well as the lack of content. It was that you never fixed anything you published.

When you refer to SOE as a whole I think it comes down to small things like a Smuggler Revamp, Ranger Revamp, Creature Handler Pendant on Mustafar, FRS Revamp...I'm sure the list could go on, but I don't worry myself over them.
I also totally disagree with our assertion that we can't make this game the biggest and best MMO out there. We still have a full dev-team on this game and we're going to absolutely push ourselves until we achieve our goals. Noone is going into coasting mode on this game. Period.
Smed
SWG will never be the biggest MMO out there simply because many, MANY former and potential subscribers are scared to death of SOE. The way you handled the NGE (AND the CU) has scared many people away and frightened some potential subscribers. You will have to come up with one amazing game to overcome that setback. It's a noble quest that y'all have proven you are not up for.
