Smed, I have a valid quesiton for you... I don't think you've already answered it.. if so.. my bad.

What I would like to know is.. is anything being done about the broken "action packed" combat system? Like the issue of it being so fast that servers can't keep up with it. For example, the MAJOR iusse with speicals not working... getting messeges like "You can not attack while fighting".. and so on and so on.. Do you know if it is being addressed?

Oh, and Smed. I'm getting the feeling you are cherry-picking posts. I'd very much appreciate a response to mine.

Not what I was saying. I know SQL/Oracle, it's hardly "easy stuff" and anyone who thinks they can recreate the pre-cu game (and for more than 4 people playing at once) is high. Seriously. Good luck with that far fetched dream though.

JOHN, it's been almost 6 months since the NGE launched.  The game is 50x worse than where it was 6 months ago and 100x worse than where it was a YEAR ago.

How long will it take before the SWG team gets their poop in a group.

CONSTANT NERFS to XP and BROKEN SPECIALS are NOT FUN and sure as **edit** not worth paying $15 a month for.

We know that. We're working to fix it. There is no other answer."

Very glad to see you interacting with the player base that is represented by the forums.  While you are correct that "communication" will not improve morale in and of itself...it is a necessity in our society.  Without it...companies have crumpled...wars have been lost...and families destroyed.  You are doing a "great" job communicating today...as the many posts to this thread can attest to...and I for one, am glad to see it.  Keep up the good work...and allow communication like this to occur more frequently and more openly.  This will help the player base know what is going on with the game they "love" and have "bonded" with...as well as beginning the "healing" process for all those that feel their vocal outcry has fallen on deaf ears when it comes to SOE/LA.

Question: Know that the development time line often runs into snags, etc... that delay release of new content/fixes...but, is there any word yet on the status of Publish 28?  Is it still a go, or has "new" material delayed its arrival even further?

/Cheers for more publishes with "new" content/fixes/etc...that doesn't require the purchase of a "new" expansion!

I've asked the devs to jump in - Rogue 5 - go ahead and bust out your current target live date (I will now wait as the dev team sends someone to beat me up). Last I heard mid-April with it going to test in early April.

I've also asked the Lucasarts folks to comment on this which you should see today some time (not sure when or where exactly).

I also want to say - I'm happy to discuss things that need to be done to make SWG better. What I will not do is respond to "go back to pre-NGE" threads or "please make 1 pre-nge server" threads. I've commented on those before.

Smed,

Please post your top 5 concerns from the player base.

Thunderhart has posted his, we would like to see if you understand what the main problems are in this game.

ok. Here are my top 5. Keep in mind, this doesn't mean this is the order things are being done.. just my personal ones and what I see being big issues with the community.

1. Crafting - I know crafters are pissed.. we're working on a system that I hope will be a good balance between the crafting centric system we had before and the loot drop system we have now. The truth is this needs to be balanced.

2. New quests for the mid-levels - there's not enough of them now. The team is cranking on it.

3. PvP - Not nearly enough of it - I don't like what we've done to faction bases. Personally I think this is a big part of what this game needs to be about. Then again, I'm personally a PvPer so that's a big deal to me.

4. Entertainers - I realize a lot of people don't like the idea of entertainers being in combat. To a lot of people this IS why they went into entertaining in the first place. I like where we're going with it and want to make sure it's balanced properly.

5. Higher end content - There's a lack of really interesting high-end content in the game. A lot of the vets have maxed out and we need to make sure there's still enough to do.

Smed

On the subject of PvP, though it is not one of my favorite parts of the game, it is fun to engage in occasionally. My biggest problem with PvP since the loss of the TEF is the lack of spontinaity. Having to run to find a recruiter every time you die sort of gets old.

Recently a senator posted a thread and in the thread mentioned bringing the arenas back into use. Basically as soon as you walk in you are in combat against the other faction. I thought this was the best idea to bring the spontinaity back to PvP that I have heard.

I was just wondering what you, and the rest of the devs would think of this. To me it seems it would solve the problem of the unused battlefields and bring the spunk back into PvP. I know I would probably participate in PvP a lot more if all I had to do was run to the nearest battlefield.

Do , or do not. There is no try.

yes i will be so kind as to explain what you are lying about. The subscriptions. I have watched more of my friends leave this game during the NGE than I EVER SAW IN MY 3 YEARS OF PLAYING! You know you are losing subs, faster than you were before. The NGE was a mistake, and you guys know it. The community cried against it, yet you still put it in. You guys dont listen to us. I had this conversation with TH in another post. I was asking why we as the community could not help you guys have ideas on what to do with the game, he told us that we have not reached that point in trust yet. Well guess what, its been 2+ years, and our trust hasnt faultered, yours has.

Uhh...  Well Mr. Smedley, it's fairly obvious what the bottom line is here (and I give you kudos for setting your opinion, and holding to it).  It seems the talking point for yourself and SOE is "this is our direction, and you have the choice to accept it, or not".  I like it when I'm given clear indications.  The NGE will stay, a rollback is not an option, bringing back turn style combat is not an option, and bringing back skills instead of profs is also not an option.  And as nobody from your end will commit to a Pub Plan with any kind of timeline, even a rough and vague one, I'm left with 2 options:

Either I accept the way the game will be proceeding, or I don't.  I never thought I'd hit that cancel button, but until changes come that make SWG my home again, I guess this is "so long".  I'll miss this game for sure.

Good luck in future endeavours Mr. Smedley, I wish you well.

I'm only trying to be blunt in saying "this is our direction". I do still think engaging in the community and being a part of the change for the better is a good thing too.. obviously my message isn't "accept the NGE or quit.. we don't care". We absolutely care. Do you think it's fun for our devs to read these boards? Don't you think they want to make this game the best that they can? We all take pride in what we do. I would like nothing more than to be reading stories about how amazing the NGE is and how we've turned the game around. I expect to read those stories someday. Until we're there though, it's nothing but hard work and long hours with everybody examining every decision we make with a microscope. Fair enough.

Smed

As a day 1 vet, I think my main issue is that if you are going to fix the game, do it already. Man it's been far too long since I had fun in this game, which is why both my accounts are cancelled, and only 2 out of 200 friends log in.

I watched the progress of this game for a very long time before it even hit the shelves. I then spent what, 2 years?, falling in love with the game we had, it was so much fun. Jedi was revamped, then revamped again, then the CU, then the NGE. Damn guys, leave us alone. Far too many changes for a game that people have invested so much time and money into.

The publishes are taking far too long. The bug fixes are taking far too long (mostly because there are far too many bugs to fix). I understand you want to make the game better, great! But when we have a publish outline of up to patch 35, which at this rate will be 1-2 years away, by the time it finally comes out and the person whos profession is made more fun in said publish 35, is long gone from the game, never to come back. Nobody wants to play a game where it has been changed so many times, broken far worse than it was, then have to wait a year to have most of the kinks worked out.

It kinda looks like (just winging it here):
  • next publish - fix commando (1-2 months before release to live servers)
  • next publish - fix jedi (1-2 months before release to live servers)
  • next publish - fix pilot (1-2 months before release to live servers)
  • next publish - fix entertainer (1-2 months before release to live servers)
  • next publish - fix crafting (1-2 months before release to live servers)
  • etc.... (1-2 months before release to live servers)

It takes far too long to fix the problems this game has, by then, all the veterans in this game will be gone. We have been screwed over too many times.

Come on, this game is almost 3 years old and it's worse than a beta in some ways. The servers are empty, dont deny it please. Player cities are abandoned, starports are empty except Theed and Mustafar. Nobody is on Lok, Endor, or Yavin. Maybe one person in the Geo cave.

This game used to be thriving with people. Where did they all go? Please get them back.

What people are saying 'you' (meaning LA and SOE as a whole) have lied about is thing such as
The fact when the starter kit was revealed it was pushed away as an incorrect posting
How the devs refused to admit there would be a new sweeping change (NGE)
And instead of being honest to the community about some of these true rumors they have been cast aside and labeled as false which brings outrage when they become true

this IS something I think that needs addressing. It also had an interesting side effect that I have to say we didn't think about (well at least not enough anyways) - this combat system got rid of a lot of multi-box players. That sucks.

will we ever see any better animations for combat?..yes the combat is fast, but an animation can be played if you hold down the mouse button and run through that animation while it is dealing damage?..or an animaion finishes if you either take your finger of the button or the opponent is dead / incap

Sir, I am a person who believes in if you do not have anything good to say then tdo not say anything at all.  This is my only exception.

SOE & LEC continue to say that "Oh the people who hate it are the vocal minority" which you are only making true  by squelches/bans on your
depressing forums.  I hope this post alone can bring to your minds the thought that players...most players hate the cahnges taken place.  I understand that
SWG was failing in its past state.  I also do believe that your dev teams were just too lazy to balance all of the items requiring attention.  All these lies have driven
me into a great hate against SOE & LEC.

I myself am not a developer and have no room to make a comment about your developing skills, but by seeing other dev teams at work......You guys suck & are
horrible developers!  Have a great day your dreaded loons!

Sure - I'll elaborate.

What exactly was the difference between most of the combat professions? There really wasn't one unfortunately. Adding meaningful content for over 30 professions just wasn't something we were capable of. We bit off more than we could chew. Also, the fact that a person who had seen the movies won't know what most of those professions were presented a real problem for aquisition.

Smed

But, with the upmost respect, where's that content now?  I keep hearing that this was done to add meaningful content, yet we've had no major content additions, publishes have slowed right down, and what they're adding now is stuff the NGE took out.

With the removal of the template style profession system, I now actually have less to do than before.  I don't want to sound rude, and I honestly appreciate you coming on here to face things head on but could someone from SOE please tell me where this content is or when we can expect it?

Will we ever see Clothing and Armor Attachments drop again? Crafters right now are getting screwed because they can't get any more experimentation points since they aren't dropping.

Someone from the dev team please answer this question.

Smed

That's not the only point about attachments to be made.

Looted modded clothing is 100% more likely to be used in combat than crafted clothing from a Domestics trader. If attachments came back, then players would be able to modify player crafted clothing to be *more* effective than loot but not necessarily excluding the use of loot clothing. Plus, there will still be the modded jewelry that Domestics traders cannot replicate so that leaves demand for the loot.

Armor would benefit as well, being able to have higher modifiers than loot but only if the combat player is willing to obtain those tapes. Right now, players have a choice between 160 more health and 40 more action (+20 constitution modifier on looted armor) or 1500 more armor resistance rating (on crafted armor.)

Just to max their modifiers, most combat characters would choose the looted armor.
