This is an assembled Frequently Asked Questions (with answers) for those questions commonly asked in the Jedi Forum.

Special thanks to those who have supplied material to this FAQ, especially SciCabbit.

Jedi Forum FAQ v3.0
by Borion (borion@tetanalliance.com)

Q1: How do I become a jedi / unlock my force sensative slot?
A1: Evidence strongly indicates that you must master professions to unlock your slot. That's it. Essentially, just keep mastering professions until your slot unlocks. The most popular of current theories is that you must master 5 specific professions, randomly assigned to your character at time of creation. This is generally referred to as the 4+1 theory, as holocrons will hint on up to four of the professions, leaving one more (+1) to be mastered without a hint. This post is an official statement of the randomness of the professions selected.

Q2: What are the odds of opening my slot (assuming the 4+1 theory is correct)?
A2: You have a 50% chance of opening your slot by mastering 18 professions (with a silent holo, ensuring that you've correctly mastered your 4 professions). You have only a 25% chance by mastering 11 total professions (with your holo silent). It is technically possible that you would have to master all 32 professions to unlock your slot, although 96% of people will unlock on 31 or before (with silent holo). On the flip side, without using holos at all, you have approximately a 1 in 200,000 chance of unlocking if you just master five professions (without using any holocrons). That's a 0.00050% percent chance.

Q3: What's generally regarded as the fastest way to open my slot?
A3: Pop your holocrons as early as possible. Master those professions. Master as few of the "easy" professions (all the starters and entertainment professions for example) as you can. Try to finish professions with similar pre-reqs (such as doing Combat Medic as a next profession if you had Doctor, or doing Ranger and Commando if you had Bounty Hunter)

Q4: How does a holocron work?
A4: You "use" it, by double clicking or selecting use from the radial menu. The holocron then gives you a specific profession to master ("...you must master Musician" as an example) and the holocron is consumed (disappears). If you use two holocrons back to back without mastering the profession you WILL receive the same message, thus wasting your second holocron. For more holocron details, check out this writeup

Q5: Are sith and blue (aka "jedi") holocrons the same?
A5: Yes. There are no differences between the two. This has been extensively tested and documented.

Q6: What are holocron shards?
A6: When the "real" holocrons were released, all of the existing holocrons in the game were shattered "by a distrubance in the force" and turned to shards. These are now display items.

Q7: What is a silent holocron?
A7: When you have completed your four holocron hint professions, upon trying to use another holocron your holo will go "silent", giving the message "...the ancients knowledge of the force can no longer help you...". The holocron is NOT consumed in this case.

Q8: Can holos be sold? Traded? Are they tied to the person that looted them?
A8: Yes, they can be sold or traded. No, they are not tied to the person who looted them.

Q9: Is there a pattern to the profession hints that a holocron gives you? Is there any way to figure out your hidden 5th profession?
A9: SOE has stated that the professions are random. Furthermore, no one has found a pattern or combination of patterns to help find the profession to unlock. The statistical data compiled so far strongly confirms the random distribution of holocron professions with zero solid evidence of any patterns or hints in game.

Q10: Does anything else matter? Theme parks, badges, POIs?
A10: It really appears that its just "master more professions until your slot unlocks". It was all but confirmed in the following developer post : click here

Q11: How do I master x profession?
A11: See here or here or here for profession grinding tips. Also check the forums for each profession, most of them have a "guide for holocron-ers" message stickied at the top of each forum

Q12: Why can't I find anything when i search these forums?
A12: You MUST use an advanced search. The basic (default) search does an "OR" on the operators you supply and is worthless. Click the advanced search option and use the "AND" search. Also restrict your search to the specific forum you want to search for greater accuracy.

Q13: What are Krayt Pearls? Where can i get them?
A13: Found inside the belly of a Krayt Dragon, used in lightsaber construction much like krayt tissue is used in weapon construction. Pearls have statistics that are only visible upon examination by a jedi. Either a pearl or a crystal is required for saber construction (beyond the basic "training saber" which only requires resources). Krayt dragons are found on Tatoooine, in an area called the Krayt Graveyard. There is a waypoint for the Krayt Graveyard in your POI tab.

Q14: What are crystals?
A14: Real "force" crystals are used in the construction of jedi lightsabers in the same way as pearls. A normal single crystal is titled "a crystal" and is identified as a melee weapon component with no accompanying text or description. As with a pearl, crystals have hidden statistics viewable on examination by a force sensative. In addition to the single crystals, there are dual crystals which are titled "a dual crystal" which are used by high-level jedi in the construction of dual-bladed sabers (like the one used by Darth Maul in TPM).

Q15: What drops crystals?
A15: It seems like any NPC can drop crystals. Best for farming are low-level NPCs which statically spawn near towns, like Meatlumps outside Coronet Corellia or thugs in cities on Talus.

Q16: What are "a rare artifact", "nightsister crystals", a "sith altat", or petrified avian eggs used for?
A16: Decoration, so far. These have all been examined by jedi and no use has been found.

Q17: How do i build a macro?
A17: see here for an excelent macro guide.

Q18: What's the deal with jedi bounties?
A18: Currently, using your force powers in the presence of others and especially using force powers on other players seems to raise your visibility. Once your visibility hits a certain level of visibility, you are placed on the bounty hunter terminals by the empire. Your bounty is for 150k credits (and a precious 3000 bounty hunter xp) and lists your name. At this time, Bounty Hunters cannot use normal means of locating you (tracking droids - however the devs have stated that the tracking droids will work on jedi at some point) so they must physically locate you in game. A bounty hunter must have Investivgation III to see and accept a jedi bounty.

Q19: Can a jedi be resurected by a doctor to save a death?
A19: No. You loose a life upon deathblow, not upon cloning.

Q20: Do all force-sensatives start as rebels?
A20: Yes, covert rebels. Only once you hit Jedi Knight and choose to fall to the dark side can you join the Empire, if you wish to do so.

Q21: Is force-sensative and jedi really the same thing?
A21: Yes. The terms are used interchangably. When you unlock your force sensative slot, you are a Jedi Initiate.

Q22: What does the jedi skilltree look like?
A22: see here or here

Q23: Can politician count as profession required to unlock jedi?
A23: No one has posted proof of politician being required. So until we have extroidanary proof, the answer is NO, politician is not a factor in unlocking your slot.

Q24: How can you master 5 professions? Can you drop professions after you've mastered them?
A24: Yes, you can drop professions after you've mastered them. Think of it as a checklist - master the profession you've been told, then you can use another holocron, and drop the first profession to master the second if you want/need to do so.

Q25: What happens when you unlock your slot? when do you get the message?
A25: You will get a system message 15-60 seconds after you have unlocked thats says, "You begin to feel attuned with the power of the Force. Your Force Sensitive character slot has been unlocked " You can now create a second character on the same server - your jedi!.

Q26: What server can you create your force-sensative charater on?
A26: Only on the same server which unlocked it. And incidentally you cannot have more than one force sensative slot per account. An official statement on some of this information is here.

Q27: Didn't SOE publish an official jedi FAQ?
A27: Right here.

Q28: Are sabers tradable? Can they be powered-up with normal melee-weapon powerups? Can they be sliced?
A28: No, they cannot be traded (or dropped in a house). They cannot be powered up with melee weapon powerups. They can be sliced, if you can get the saber in the hands of a slicer.

Q29: What do i need to craft sabers?
A29: A high-quality weapon crafting tool (use this instead of your lightsaber crafting tool). Metal, chemical and gas are the saber ingredients. Shock Resistance (SR) is the only stat that matters for saber construction

Q30: What damage type are lightsabers?
A30: They are kinetic damage, and are medium armor piercing.

Q: How do I find holocrons?
A: Check out this excellent holocron hunting guide for more details.

Q34: Can i delete my jedi character and start over?
A34: Yes. You can delete your force senstative character and restart them. Deleting your character which unlocked your slot is not recommended at this time - sketchy reports indicate that deleting the primary character may remove the ability to recreate your force sensative character. See here.

Q35: What exactly is permadeath? What happens when i die three times?
A35: Permadeath is a primary way of keeping the jedi population in check (bounty hunters being the other). When your jedi dies three times (you get an extra life at Jedi Knight and another extra life at Jedi Master) you suffer what is called permadeath. Your character is reborn with same looks, name, and starting items. You loose everything else that your jedi had - items, experience, skills, everything. The only way to delete your jedi character is at the character select screen and to actually type delete name.

Q36: How do I create the Jedi character when I unlock the message?
A36: Sit down, /logout, and click the create button. Once you get the list of servers, click the server you were just on and click next. You will go into the character creation screen and see a message saying you have unlocked the force sensitive slot. From here, you choose how your character will look as if making a normal character but you dont get to choose the starting profession.

Q: After I create the jedi character, where do I start off at?
A: Same as a normal character, you can choose from the normal set planets and starting locations.

Q: Is there a Hidden Planet that I've heard rumors of?
A: No, there is no Hidden planet for only jedi.

Q: How do I find my jedi trainer to learn from?
A: At the beginning of your character, you will get an email stating that there is a command called /findmytrainer. This command will locate your personal trainer that could be on any planet and city including player cities.

Q: What does my jedi trainer look like?
A: The Jedi trainers look like any other starting profession trainer. When you talk to the trainer he/she/it will normally say, "I know why the force has brought you here. "

Q: Can my jedi learn other professions?
A: No, when you start off, you have 0/250 skill points which will prevent you from training in other professions.

Q: What can a jedi make?
A: A Jedi starts off able to make 3 things. a Refined Crystal Pack, Lightsaber Crafting Toolkit, and a Training Lightsaber.

Q: What is a Refined Crystal Pack?
A: a Refined Crystal Pack is used to make a training lightsaber. The Training lightsaber will use two Refined Crystals. The Crystals are made with 10 units of Steel, 20 units of Gemstone and 6 units of Copper. There is no Experimenting stats for this crystal so any material that fits the requirements will work.

Q: Can the items that a Jedi make be experimented on?
A: No. Althought you are able to make Schematics and mass produce the items.

Q: What is required to make a training lightsaber?
A: 15 units of Minerals, 1 Refined Crystal Pack, 14 units of Metal, 17 units of Chemical, 1 Refined Crystal Pack, 20 units of Gas, 14 units of Metal. The Materials require Shock Resistance for best quality. But dont forget Overall Quality is also a Factor for any item that is made.

Q: What are the generations of lightabers?
A: There are 5 generations of Lightsabers. The training saber (novice) then 1 generation of saber for each box of the lightsaber tree. Each lightsaber will require the Previous version of Lightsaber with Gas, Metal, and a Force Crystal or pearl where applicable.

Q: How long does the TEF last?
A: 5 minutes. That's five minutes from when you used the last attack or force powers.

Q: Speaking of Harvesting, can Jedi Harvest Hide/Meat/Bone from what he/she kills?
A: No. Jedi have no Scout skills or any Skill Points to buy novice professions.

Q: Can Jedi heal themselves?
A: Yes. When you go up the Healing Limb of tree, you will gain the ability to heal your own wounds and damages. The area's include Health, Action, and even the Mind. At novice initiate, you even get the ability to heal your Fatigue. Later on in the different tree's, you will also be able to heal others as well as poisons and diseases.

Q: Is the force regeneration as slow as I hear it is?
A: Yes. Force power Recovery is 5 force power points for ever 5 seconds when you start off. Your Force power recovery will go faster as you gain skill in the Force Power line.

Q: Is the Lightsaber's Decay broken?
A: Lightsaber Decay is equal to any other weapon you would use on your main character. Jedi use the lightsaber a lot more then any other profession out there.

Q: What kind of weapons are Jedi Certified to use?
A: CDEF Carbin, Pistol, and Rifle. Heavy Axe, Light Fragmentation Grenade, Lightsaber, Republic Blaster, Stone Knife, Survival Knife, and Wood staff.

Q: What type of experience does the Jedi learn?
A: Ligthsaber xp and Jedi xp.

Q: What is Jedi xp?
A: Jedi xp is basically the same as Combat xp. You gain 10% of Jedi xp from your Lightsaber xp. Using a Lightsaber in combat will give you a 5 minute TEF. (*Temperary Enemy Flag*)

Q: Is Jedi xp only gotten from your Lightsaber xp?
A: No. Using the Force powers or Lightsaber Special moves will gain you Jedi xp. Using any force power will also give you a TEF.

Q: What are the current issues with Jedi?
A: One pretty comprehensive list is here.

Q: What is this /jediforage idea I keep hearing about?
A: Simply put its the idea that Jedi should have some better way to get their hands on saber components than killing NPCs by the hundreds or spending hundreds of thousands of credits on the materials. Posts on the idea are here, here and here.

Q: What is up with this (community proposed) idea of Jedi regenerating a life?
A: Many feel that the ultra-hardcore mode of jedi permadeath should be balanced with the very slow regeneration of a life over time. A thread on this topic can be read here.

Q: I just unlocked my force sensative slot! Now what?
A: Read SciCabbit's excellent Jedi Starter Guide.

I know of at least three people who have tested with holocrons used right before rollbacks. They popped one, let it roll back, then the next day used the other holocron. Same message.

We also have reports of numerous people unlocking using a mix of holocrons, and numerous people using one of each to receive the same message.

This is an avalanche of evidence. Do you have any facts or data or anyting more than the elloquent argument of "BS", or are you just trolling the boards again?
