Q: First, your biggest question as someone who knows nothing about a holocron is: What is it, and why do I want it.
A: A holocron is a device which gives information in the star wars galaxies. You can access your personal holocron at any time in game while pushing ctrl+h. The holocrons that are being talked about are Sith or Jedi Holocrons. These Holocrons reveal information about how you will attain your Force Sensitive slot. If you do not know what a force sensitive slot is, read the FAQ at www.starwarsgalaxies.com . People want this of course so they can attain their slots and become Jedi. Jedi information can also be found in the website above or on these forums.
Q: Okay, I wan't Holos (Holocrons), where do I go to get them.
A: Dantooine is the location of most of the force sensitive mobs in the game, and Ive heard about ewoks and other things on Endor dropping them too. First you must consider your faction.
Imperials: Go to Dantooine, Go to the Imperial Outpost, Take missions for 8k-9k with the tag "a large Rebel base", however the picture will not be a huge generator, it will be a little base. Note: There are other areas of course to attain holocrons, however personally I am only speaking from what I know for a fact drops Holocrons.
Rebels: Go to Naboo, head to lake retreat and take Dark Trooper missions. Holocrons drop on dark troopers here. (Im not a rebel, and have only read about this, if someone wants to expand on this if need be, Id like it)
Neutrals: About 7km NW of the Mining Outpost on Dantooine, you will find a cave. Inside this cave (which is highly camped by members of either faction, or other neutrals) you will find most of the force sensitive mobs on Dantooine. Also, randomly around the planet of Dantooine, random FS mobs will spawn, these also drop holocrons. A place of less random pops of FS mobs is to the SE of the Agro Outpost, about 700m on Dantooine.
Q: How do I get to Dantooine or Naboo or Endor?
A: I didn't know this and Ive been playing since release. Theres a little button on any spaceport terminal when you go to buy a ticket which says "Show Galactic Map". If clicked, it will reveal which planets have space ships running to which planets. Find the one from your current planet and map out your trip.
Q: Okay, this sounds soooo easy, whats the big fuss?
A: Holocrons are EXTREMELY RARE, I've killed about 1000 missions before I found my first holocron, the rate of drops on Dark Troopers is rumored to be higher than on Surface Marshalls, but this is probably another biased opinion by someone who lacks knowledge. As for the force caves or the randomly popping FS mobs, these are EXTREMELY HARD TO KILL!!! Unless you have a CH who is a Commando, you WILL have a hard time killing these. AT-ST's also come in handy as tanks due to insanely tough armor and HAM. The resists on these mobs is roughly 70-90% to everything. The chances are you will die, get frustrated and stop hunting Holocrons.
Q: Why are people selling the holocrons for so much!!!
A: Due to the rareness of these holocrons, the laws of supply and demand have come into play, as people can charge practically whatever they wish for them. 5 Million Credits is the current base line price for most Holocrons, so don't be fooled if someone is selling one for 7 million credits, know when you should let it go, and know when you should stick it.
Q: Do I know everything about Holocrons now?
A: Of course no 1 player knows absolutely all aspects of this game, and anyone who wishes to add to this FAQ on any subject is free to, however I will be unaware to confirm these posts. You will have to trust whoever posts any new information, as Im sure theres lots. I bet theres lots of information out there, you just have to experiment for yourself sometimes and find out whats true and whats not.
Q: I saw a Holocron on ebay, its only 50 bucks Im buying it!!!
A: This is a bad idea, if the devs find that anyone is exchanging items over Ebay or any other exchange service from SWG, they have the right to shut down any and all accounts which violate the ToS (Terms of Service... aka, the thing you always click Agree to before you enter the game).
Q: Why can't the devs just give us all Jedi, that would make the game so much better wouldn't it?
A: No, due to overwhelming demand for Jedi, everyone and their dog would become a Jedi, thus making this game no longer Star Wars, and turning it into Jedi Wars. This is not what the devs want, and if you think about it, you don't either.
Q: What does using a holo do?
A: When you use a Holo, you will get a message saying something along the lines:
To continue your path to absolute power, you must gain knowledge in the _____ category.
The"____" will be a profession, either basic or elite.
Q: Can I use holocrons forever?
A: Heres the theory, it takes 5 mastered random professions which are generated at player creation to open/unlock your FS slot, You can only use 4 holocrons to help you figure out which 5 these are. 4 of these professions are available from holocron knowledge, the other one you must guess to get. These never change, and therefore it is possible to get a holocron that says to master something, and when you master it, your slot is unlocked right away!
Q: How do I know when Im done with my holo's?
A: The holocron will "go silent", this means it will give you a message saying It cannot help you or something.
Q: Will it waste a holo if I try to use one, when my 4 holocron professions are already done?
A: No, you have no idea what your 4 holocron professions are, and you could have mastered them on accident on your way to getting to an elite profession or whatever. Thus if you use a holocron and its your 3rd, and you've already mastered all 4 holocron professions needed, trying to use a holocron again will simply provide a message where the holocron states it can no longer help you.
Q: Can I just use 4 in the same hour and get all of my professions?
A: NO DO NOT DO THIS. Each time you use a holocron it tells you 1 profession you need to master. If you use one, and it says master Architect, do not use another one until you have mastered Architect or it will just tell you to master it again!!!! CAREFUL!!!
Q: Im an artisan, how am I supposed to get a holocron?
A: Chances are, you're going to have to master an artisan skill ANYWAYS, so just drop that skill and get some weapons and armor with the money you've made, and start building skills. I recommend Commando/CH as a great Holo Grinding profession combo
Q: What about other Surface Marshalls I encounter, or other mobs which have previously dropped Holos?
A: REBEL Surface Marshalls will drop holos, and according to Fellstaff you can find these in any rebel controlled base. Logic only proves that Dark Troopers in an Imperial Controlled base would also drop Holo's.
Happy Holo Hunting!!!
