Friday Feature

The devs have heard your pleas.

Note: ONLY the things in bullet points are on test center and will be coming with publish 6. The rest of the changes are not coming right away. So if you want to be a Jedi now, you can continue what you are doing, if you want to wait for the changes, we do not have information on when it will actually be changed.

This week's Friday Feature discusses the upcoming jedi revamp.  Here is the text from today's Friday Feature (since it takes a little bit to appear on the website):

Changes the the current jedi sys.

I would like to start this post by saying thanks to everyone for the long and heartfelt conversations about this hot topic over the past few months. It is an issue that is very passionate to everyone involved. We have been reading the boards, reading email, listening to people who spoke with us and have had many discussions internally.

It has been agreed that the development team should revamp the Jedi system.

This process is going to take some time, so it will happen in several phases. The first phase is to make some changes (where possible) to alleviate some short term discomfort with gameplay. The second phase will be to rebuild the Jedi system to be quest-oriented; and to include the familiar elements of Force Sensitivity, Jedi-oriented quests, as well as many other elements the developers and the community feel should make up the process of becoming a Jedi. (It should also be noted that players who have put in work towards becoming a Jedi will not lose their effort. Some sort of recognition of players' efforts will be included in the new system.)

The first phase is for short term and those changes will appear in Publish 6. They are as follows:

  • The permadeath system is being removed and changed to a skill revocation system based on deaths.
  • Deaths will decay from the death counter after one week.
  • Deaths after a buffer (3 to 5 depending on advancement) will have a skill revocation penalty.
  • Skill revocation will be slight at first, but will increase in penalty as the player accumulates more and more non-decayed deaths.
  • The skill revocation penalty will increase as a player advances up the skill tree.
  • The skill to be revoked will be randomly chosen from the last skill earned in each of the 4 skill branches.
  • No more than one skill will be revoked at a time, though players can get to a state where they lose a skill each time they die.

This is all of the information that is available at this time. As additional developments occur, we will post more information.

Now I just hope that I finish my grinding before they change the unlocking system. I would hate to have wasted all my time and countless credits crafting my professions. =(

Please ensure they hear our pleas to treat those of us who are not jedi fairly as well.  Some of us have grinded many, many professions, and if we have not achieved the slot by the time the new system is in place, all of that effort could be for naught.

It was mentioned that effort would be rewarded, please ensure for us that the reward is as significant as the effort has been.

Permadeath being gone is fine... but it never was permadeath.  it was just all skill loss.  i think it should stay that way personally.

Don't worry, any progress you make will directly carry over I'm told.  So whether you unlock it now, or just complete part of your professions, your progress will carry right over into the new system!

I'm glad to see they are rethinking the farce.

A good friend will drive 30 miles to jail to bail you out at 3:30 in the morning, a best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "That was f*ckin' awesome!"

Wrong!! It will drop by a few angry powergamers and then rise by a ton because playing out a Star Wars fantasy includes Jedi for most people!

SOE will see more new subscriptions than cancelled, I'll bet on it!

As soon as i get new crystals i am making my wookiee, i know it will be slow but that is what i wanted to hear. I would  rather loose a few skills than all.

Thank you

I am not a dark jedi.
I am not a light Jedi
I do not see the light or the dark, it is all blended into grey.
Balance is the key, without it we would not be in harmony.

When we grey jedi get acknowledged then the real fight will start all of you upstarts will fall and balance will be restored.

So the way I read this I can die a max of 3 deaths a week with initiate then my 4th death would suffer the random skill loss.  This gives me a few chances at a PVP raid on the imps until I have to lay of and wait until the next week.  I can live with that.  I would like total removeal and no penatly but this is much better than the current system.  Finally we will be able to PVP.
