You want a pistol that does a lot of damage? Enhancers are probably more important for pistols and pistoleers than any other class. There's no reason a Master Pistoleer shouldn't have at least one enhanced weapon.
First, you need to know what enhancements are available out there. This is taken from the Weaponsmith forum, and cut down to only include pistol-related items.
Some of these are hard to get like Krayt Tissue, but others are much easier.

Now for what weapons they go in, and how many. Your favorite weaponsmith should be able to help you out with this process, but it's nice to have an idea what you need beforehand. There are two classes of pistols, projectile and blaster which take different enhancements.
Projectile pistols take one projectile feed and one projectile pistol barrel. One or both components may be enhanced/replaced by the above items. They include: FWG5 Striker Launcher Tangle (Feed only) Scatter (Barrel only)
Blaster pistols take power handlers and one blaster pistol barrel. One or both components may be enhanced/replaced by the above items. Some pistols require multiple powerhandlers as noted, so those versions need more enhancers (of the same serial) to produce the final gun. They include: D18 [1] DL44 [1] Scout Blaster [1] DH17 [1] Scatter [1] (Handler Only) Power5 [2] SR Combat [2] DX2 [4] Republic [2] Geo Blaster [4] (Requires 1 Cube) DE-10 [2] (Handler Only)
Note that when creating a pistol with more than one handler, the wepaonsmith needs to 'burn' one component to make the schematic! To make a power handler enhanced DX2, you'd need a minimum set of 5 identical enhancers. If you had a set of 7 powerhandler enhancers, you could get a DX2 and a Republic made: 4(DX2) + 2(Republic) + 1(Schematic)
Projectile pistols can take "one enhancement of each type"?
Does this mean I can make a FWG5 with one power handler, one projectile feed mechanism, and one barrel?
A Geo stun blaster can take multiple power handlers, one projectile feed mechanism (or not because it is not a projectile pistol?), one barrel, and one power cube, right?

Actually, it's just one projectile feed mechanism, and one barrel for an FWG5.
Geo MUST have two identical handlers, and cannot take a projectile feed mech.
My selections of FWG5 and Geo were just random choices...didn't mean to make more work for you. Well done!

I've gotten some spider fangs (geo cave loot/projectile feed mech enhancer) that were +46 damage -.295 speed and -10 health cost. They made some very nice Featherweight FWG5s.
The biggest issue that I see as a master weaponsmith with loot is the general confusion between loot than enhances the performance of a crafted part vs. loot that replaces a crafted part.
For loot than enhances, you can generally just add the +modifier of the loot to the approprate stat of a "regular" crafted weapon of the type you want made. So krayt tissue that is +30 damage, -.3 speed will increase a scout blaster's max damage by 30 and make it be .3 faster (assuming all experimentation goes perfectly).
For loot that replaces a crafted item (the pistol barrels, scopes, blade vibro units, proj. feed mechs etc etc), you have to compare the stats of your weapon smith's crafted component with the stats of the looted component. So the looted projectile pistol barrel with 20-25 damage -.7 speed compared to a crafted projectile pistol barrel that is say 20-20 damage, -1.07 speed. You gain damage but lose speed.
