We seem to get a lot of the same questions here, so I was wondering if we want to start a FAQ, links could be included, but there are still a lot of questions that are not in any of the stickies
or....ask your questions, if they are not answered, maybe we can help
I will get things started off here, and try to update this post if there is response/interest
1. I just mastered armorsmith and I am completely lost and do not know where to start, help?
If you seek information here, there is tons of useful information and guides here. Read the guide to armorsmithing and browse through the stickies, many of your answers will be found there (from justapilgrim)
2. What should I grind to master armorsmith?
the holosmith guide was taken down, but the grind is pretty simple. If you want the "quickest" way, the standard grind is mabari chestplates the entire way. You will need about 6k snyth cloth from tailors so get a few factories and schematics before you start. If you want to do it with less resources (like cloth and hides), grind AUK to personal armor 3 and do ubese shirts the entire way (less xp than mabari chests, but easy to get resources) [note: for artisan grind, just grind tools till you can do presonal harvesters, then make those till novice armorsmith] (from justapilgrim)
3. I just got personal armor 3 and am standing by a crafting station, why can I not craft ubese shirts?
You need a private crafting station, not the public one (in a house or private residence) (from justapilgrim)
4. I just looted some segment enhancers, what are they worth?
there is a guide to looted componets in the stickies that will give you some info on what they are and how usefull they are. What they are worth varies greatly server to server, please try your local galaxy forum for more precise pricing. (from justapilgrim)
5. I just checked all the planets and there is no Kiirum steel or Colat iron on any planet (or insert named resource)? how am I supposed to craft? is this intended?
Not all resources may be "in shift" at once. Sometimes it can be months between spawns of specific resources and even longer between spawns of great stuff. There are lots of sites, but www.swgcraft.com is the bread and butter for finding current and past spawns of resources. (from justapilgrim)
6: Why don't people make different colors of composite?
A: Because you can quickly, and easily, change the color of composite armor on your own. The devs left a system, for composite only, that you can access by holding down your curser on any unequiped composite armor in your invetory, allowing you to change it's color in a smiliar way to changing the color of a swoop or a droid. The devs had only intended for it to be a temporary fix, but because of it's popularity, they left it in. (from Okram2k)
7: How does slicing effect armor?
A: Slicing has two random options that can happen to armor, either you get a reduction to encumberances, or a boost to armor resistances. The amount of change varies on the skill of the smuggler, but a master smuggler can give a bonus of up to 35%. One important thing to keep in mind, is armor that is sliced for increased armor resistance, does not increase any special protection stats. Armor that is intended to be sliced generally has very few special resistances so that all damage types can be increased. Also keep in mind, sliced armor, just like sliced weapons, has less of a chance of being succesfully repaired, so when your super sliced helmet falls into pieces, don't get angry at the person who fixed it. (from Okram2k)
8. What is a "12 point smith"?
Answered in "Okram's Complete 12 point guide for everyone from noob to master". Basically, a master armorsmith has 10 points worth of experimentation when reaching the experimentation stage of crafting. Additional points can be obtained, up to an extra +2, by wearing clothing that contains the "Armorsmith Experimentation +x" modifier. 10 points of bonus Armorsmith experimentation correspond to one additional experimentation point, so a 12 point smith is wearing +20 points of Armorsmith experimentation in their clothing. This is also different from Force Experimentation, which increases the chance of an amazing success when experimenting, but does not have any effect on the number of points you have to work with when experimenting (from baccarat)
9. What is highest possible stun resists?
for triple layered composite the theoretical max is 45% stun with 100% experimentation. Actual crafted peices on servers max is 39-42%. Tantal CAN be experimented over 45%. tantal can only take one layer and the segment enhancemet, depending on your resources, you will need about +20% to get to 40% base (stun is in base) and more than that to get above 45%. Stun can be sliced higher (it is in base) on tantal armor
also psgs have stun in base, highest i have seen is 48% base. These can be sliced to as hugh as 62% base (that includes stun)
10. My psg doesn't work, it isn't offering any better protection what is going on? what about stat shifting?
Psgs work, but they are a little tricky if you don't know what is going on. Sometimes psgs "don't work" and don't offering any protection and last forever. This is usually caused when you shuttle, log out, or cross server boundries. Unquipt it, than reequipt it, should work fine. Taking shuttle, logging or crossing server boundries can also cause the stats to shift. Good advice is to leave it in the crate till you are ready to use it, then pull it out and equipt it
Yes stats shift, in particular Light Saber resists WILL shift out.
11. Is there a crafting apron for Armorsmiths?
no there is not. Devs have not given any indication that they will ever get us one, so don't expect it
The RIS helmet can only be worn by Humans, Zabraks, Twi'leks, and Sullustans. The remainder of the suit can be worn by everyone but Ithorians and Wookiees (Trandoshans can't wear gloves and boots of course). The list of helmet wearing races may change in the future. (from baccarat)
14. What is the best place to put my Armor Attachments? What are "Prenerf" and "Postnerf" Ubese shirts and bandolier? What about Mabari belts?
Before getting nerfed, Ubese shirt and bandoliers were considered armor, but they had no condition, so they were an ideal place to put AAs (armor attachments). Now they all take CAs (clothing attachments), not AAs, but prenerf ubese shirts and bandoliers continue to be conditionless, while post nerf, they have 1000 condition, like other clothing. Mabari belts still accept AAs and were not nerfed, so they last forever, but if you wear one you cannot equip a personal shield generator (PSG). [note that padded belts also take AA]
If a mabari belt isnt an option, then there are two options. Option #1 is to pick a piece of armor that is rarely hit (bracers and biceps are the best choice), and use that for your attachments. Ideally it will be a piece of armor with 4 sockets, high condition, and HIGH RESISTS. This is because the amount of damage armor takes when hit is related to the amount of damage that gets through, NOT the amount that is blocked. However armor that is vulnerable will take no damage, so bone armor could be an option (except condition is low and energy damage will be a problem). Best bet is to get composite layered for an unusual damage type (heat or cold possibly), slice alot of them to get a 90% piece with 4 sockets, and use that, or use a high condition, high base looted rancor or acklay padded segment (even better). When your armor reaches zero condition, the armor will continue to provide the attachment bonus, however it will create an "armor hole" allowing damage to get through at that location.
Option #2 is to choose a valuable armor piece (a helmet is a popular choice), and use the new Anti Decay Kit veteran reward on it, making it permanent. In this case a piece of armor with 90% resists is very desirable (and possibly stun as well, don't use stun for option 1).
please add, or ask, and we will see what happens with this thread

Good stuff skinny. There is a MAS grinding section in the JaatoWaals stickie, but it's buried pretty deep.
