Mr Smedley,

I for one enormously appreciate you responding directly to us.  And I can completely understand why you wouldn't respond to threads here that are nothing but flames and trolls. But I think that part of why it got to that level was simply because we had no idea what was being implemented.

I'm very happy to see your top five list, and, though you've never (to my knowledge) actually apologized to us for the way the NGE was implemented, it does seem like you are taking responsibility.  I'm very glad to see you admit that the game isn't what it should be.  We were all afraid that you thought the game was perfect as is, while clearly, the player base does not agree.  So thank you so very much for that!

Now for my question: could we please have camps back and some skills from the CH/BE/Ranger lines?  Those were fantastic.

If you continue to communicate with us, I think you'll find the level of respect going up.  You'll still have the haters, but I am immensely reassured by your thoughtful discussion *with us*.  Heck, I might even resub when my account expires!

NGE: I'm still not over it and never will be. Guess it's time to go. Way to ruin a great game, SOE.

A couple of questions:

1) When can we expect the 'Ongoing Storyline', mentioned in the Gamespot artice with Nancy MacIntyre? It was supposed to start in Feb and go into the winter.

2) When can we expect to see collision improved? If you want to stick with the present combat system then you REALLY need to make sure that both players and NPC's cant stand on top of each other.

Smead, Unfortunatly the painful truth is that a rollback will make people happy..that is it, plain and simple. I do like much of the NGE and there are parts that I do not care for so much. But to the posters...give these guys a break..I mean I can not imagine what the environment in the SWG office is like..your dragging them down with negative posts and crazy rumors. The NGE was a bad decision yes but lets try to build on what we have here instead of making these guys feel like crap. Would you post or reply to posts like these baiting ones if you were them? No.

1. Bugs

2. Content/Stop dumbing it down

3. Expansions

Good luck to you Smead and SOE, I hope that this gets better for you guys quick.

2) There will be additional skills for each profession, but not like the system before. I realize this is contriversial but there it is.

Why can't we do these things?

1) Target lock - Believe it or not we talked long and hard about this one. If you seriously sit down and think about the nature of the NGE style of combat, it means that people need to be able to use actual skill to hit. If you take that away you need to go back to the more turn based system we had before. It just plain wouldn't work. Now you can make a legitimate argument that we shouldn't use this style of combat. I have no defense against that argument because nearly every other MMO out there uses that style of combat and clearly it works. What we are trying to do here is create a new style of gameplay. Does it work? Well.. for some people it does, and for others it doesn't. That's the truth. For myself, I prefer it to the old combat system which I personally found dull. But that's just my personal opinion. The reality is we've changed to the new system and we're moving forward. It isn't that we can't add target locking.. it's that wer'e not going to because there isn't a way to do it that wouldn't reduce the skill level needed.

2) The more rigid profession system we've switched to just doesn't lend itself to a skill system that's like what we had before.

Right you guys better amp up your servers then to handle this FPS game then=/. Cus the current style just sucks.

Mr. Smedly,

I have an idea.  Once a week you (you personally as well as the other red names) have a Question The Devs thread.  It would be a one-hour time period where the developers would actively monitor one single thread and answer directly as many questions as possible posted by players to that thread.  It would be direct communication, easy to monitor, easy to get the players involved and easy to implement.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks for stopping by the forums today.  I could use a break from all the negative posting I see these days.

I agree...that will go a long way to ensuring great communication and quelling the rumors.

This is Joodah of Corbantis, and I am deeply involved in the greater gcw on our server since the beginning My question is, has there been consideration to ramp up the GCW sooner than later? I can tell you on our server that if a gcw system was back in place we'd have whole guilds returning on the drop of a dime. Would you agree that the gcw is one of the core hooks of this game, that is to say, integral to the well being of the game? The gcw publish seems so far off and we are still losing people daily because they've done all of the pve they can do and pvp has no purpose other than one quick fight and no objectives... Woof?

Smed,

The loss of admin on harvesters has made things difficult for many crafters as sometimes it is neccessary to use multiple characters and move them to varying different places in ordere to colelct resources. Could we perhaps get an adjusted admin system where its account Admin rather than Toon admin. By this i mean, my alt the trader places a harvester that my main jedi can collect frm but not any other accounts. That kind of gives us a bit of extra ease. It would have been a less suttle change than removing admin alltogether.

Wow. An offical representative saying the game is hurting. This does give me hope. Not much. But some. We have seen in the past that what is said may not come to pass. Be aware Smed, the community will hold you to the above statement.

The SWG community has been voting with it's feet since the NGE came about. Either we end up being right about our ability to turn the ship around and make a game that's BETTER than it was before, or we were wrong and we fail. Either way we were losing subs before the NGE and believe it or not, we are losing them at a slower rate than before. I'm not going to pretend we didn't lose a bunch of subs from this. We did. And I don't think the game is where it needs to be yet to aquire new subs. But it's getting there with each and every publish.

At the end of the day there are a lot of people in this community that wonder why we did this? Why did we "deliberately" try and piss people off. Obviously that wasn't our intent. This is a business and we needed to improve the results of the business. Did we make a mistake? Maybe.. but only time is going to tell on that one. One thing is certain. We made a mistake with how we presented it to the community, and for that I'm sorry. I still think it was a needed thing though. It's not as simple as "you should have just fixed the things we were complaining about". That doesn't address the very real fact that what we had was a hardcore game that wasn't going to attract the mass audience that the Star Wars IP brings to the table.

But what about a "lock on" system like what is already in place for space?  It doesn't prevent you from missing a shot at all, it just makes it a LOT easier to tell if that's really your target in your sights.  This would also fix the "non-combat targeting", as it would let you move the specific object you're locked on to when decorating.

You have this system already for space, I'd think coding something similar for ground would at least have a basis to start from.

Are there currently any plans at all to allow players to individualize their characters' capabilities? Specifically, will we see some sort of skills, talent, and/or specialization system from which we can select? Cookie cutter is extremely stale.

Mr. Smedley,

First of all, I think it's good that you finally jumped in to a thread like this and seriously answer player questions. It should have happened a bit earlier and probably a bit more often too ( a regualr bases maybe) but it's a start.

My question would be the following:

After NGE went live, you (or I think it was you) said we should see the NGE fully operational in about half a year (eventhough in some interview it was said SOE never brought out an unfinished product, but that's an other thing). 4 Months have passed since launch and we only have seen 2 publishes so far. With the current pace, how much longer will it take until we have a fully funcional game again, including object collition and all?
