Forum Awards and XP
April 28, 2011

Community Relations

Due to the recent discovery that forum awards and XP have had a negative impact on the the web server's performance (mainly on the server's RAM), forum awards and XP have been turned off.

This will most likely remain the case until our web server is upgraded. At the moment there is no ETA on when the web server will be upgraded.

Because of all this, we probably wont be able to give custom forum awards to winners of our "What is SWGEmu?" - Community Writing Contest (http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10898), so we will more than likely make custom user titles instead.

Forum XP was a neat feature.

But faster forums is more important.

Watching too much porn in the staff forums is probably the biggest factor.

It's ok. You're still in the exclusive 8 bar club.

Is this related to why the reputation is suddenly borked?

Does this mean we can no longer unlock the forum Jedi?

With the recent reintroduction of the forum XP bar, I am again noticing a decrease in forum performance (at least from Europe). It seems to be the same sideeffect describe above as a performance increase with the disabled xp bar, but in the opposite direction.

I would like to count myself into the faction having more interest in a better performance of the forum rather than having this additional forum features. I doubt, that they serve any important purpose.

The to me most important feature, the ability to rate the content of a thread, was enable all the time anyway. With this, the users are able to express their opinion on what is said in a value rather than having stats on who is making any statements.

Many personal stats mapped in a forum have next to no real meaning. The commonly know "forum troll" user is able to gather post numbers as well as forum xp even more effectively by delivering hardly any constructive addition to the discussions than the normal forum user trying to make important statements.

I am aware, that "forum trolls" are a species with not danger of suffering extinction, but I doubt, that forum features even fueling their pointless activities and causing performance issues are a necessity.

I'm with Sortas on this one. I'd prefer a fast forum over the awards.

Forums are running nice and smooth now. Would rather have that then slow loading etc etc.

Have a great day!

Well, forum XP was turned off, server upgraded and then XP was turned back on. Lets see how it goes this time.

Time to close this one.
