  • Entertainer - Handy Entertainer Guide .6

    Ok handy Entertainer stuff:

First and foremost: Always form or join up in a band. This may seem obvious but being in a band working together the benefits are far too great vs not joining. When you first arrive ask if you may be invited to the band. Battle Fatigue is big stuff and with a team effort it will melt it down very quickly.

    Get a bigger bar!
If you did not know already the short cut bar at the top can be dragged down a bit to make it 2 layers deep. This will be very handy later as your bar can get pretty crowded. Also set aside a whole bar for your entertainer stuff. It really keeps the confusion down. So you just switch to #5 bar when you are ready to entertain etc.

    Get your flourishes handy:
Press Control A and then click Other where you will find a list of commands you can do. You will see musical notes for flourish 1 8. Drag each one of these up to your bar. I find keeping them in order of F1 F8 helps for /flourish 1 - /flourish 8 when I glace up at them. Now if you want to do a quick flourish just click or press the function key. Also while you are there, drag the /startdance and /stopdance icons as well. Having that extra room on the bar is already starting to help.

    Scripting:
Press Control A and then click the Macro tab. Then click new macro. Type in the name of the macro, you cant use spaces but you can use - dashes. Try to keep the name as descriptive as possible because if you script a bunch, after a bit they all can look the same.
Then pick an icon. Next follow the below steps:

First script is to perform the fantastic ability that the devs added awhile back. Just type in the macro text box:

    /changedance rhythmic

    And then press ok

For musicians the instructions are the same just replace it with or /changemusic and the available songs for you. Example: /changemusic starwars1

This will shift your current dance over to rhythmic. This is handy as a way to shift gears up or down for higher or lower level dances. You can /changedance to any of your currently available so for an example:

    /changedance basic
    /changedance popular
    /changedance lyrical

Next is how to write an actual dance routine. Same method is used for musicians just replace the dances with music. This is more complicated but definitely worth the effort. Just take your time and work your way up. Dont worry about messing up because it will do no harm. Also this may seem to be a lot of work but it will be very helpful later in your entertainment career if you choose.

Lets start with a small one:

    /changedance rhythmic; /pause 6; /flourish 8

Ok so the above script will shift you to rhythmic then wait 6 seconds, then perform flourish 8. The key is to start small and work your way up as you perfect your script. Add a bit, test it, add a bit more.

    /changedance rhythmic; /pause 6; /flourish 8; /pause 6; /flourish 2; /changedance popular; /pause 2; /smile; /flourish 2

Now the above script will shift you to rhythmic then wait 6 seconds perform flourish 8 wait another 6 seconds perform flourish 2 then shift you over to the popular dance and then flourish 2. Notice I added a smile in there. You can add any type of /command in there. I found that usually its best to avoid speech because it will sound repetitive after a bit.

Lastly if you keep your dance routines short you can mix and match short routines so to keep it interesting.

The same trick can be used for Musicians:
    /changemusic sw1; /pause 3; /flourish 2; /pause 5; /flourish 7

These above routines are handy so that you can keep the party going and type away at the keyboard chatting with new arrivals at the cantina, hotel, theater etc. This is great stuff and a good chance to keep things even more fun and interesting for all involved

Later at higher levels entertainers become Dancers or Musicians we can put on a real display with /lightshow /distract /smokebomb etc. that can really give your display some extra punch.

So imagine a group of entertainers running a script all together has potential for putting on a real show. So the group lead says Ok on five we start Jam session 1. Everyone has a copy of the script for Jam Session 1 an away they go! Neat huh?

Ok good news! The above part was the most complicated portion for entertainment scripting. If you are still having trouble dont worry, it takes time a patience to get it down but when you do, it can be a lot of fun afterwards.

Also here is an idea on creating your own unique name:
    http://www.zoolander.com/flash_site/home.html

Then click on Get your International Model name.

Enter in the data for your home state and then favorite band.

Its pretty fun and easy way to help get the creative juices going for entertainer names.

    Make it personal!

I hate mistyping or misspelling someones name. Its embarrassing and can sometimes bothers the player you are speaking with. Some players put a lot of thought and effort into their names.

Ok follow the previous steps to open and create a macro. This time lets name it Greeting 1.
    Type:

Hello %NT grab a seat and let the healing begin!

If you go to http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/beta/manual_detail.jsp?id=51626 You will find at the bottom the reference to %NT. Basically it will print the first name of your Target when you speak. Getting familiar with these commands and others like %TT can be handy even out in the field. Look out! Its a insane looking %TT heading our way! Targeting your friends and doing this is fun as well hehe.

    Be helpful!

We see everyone. And I mean everyone will come though our doors. Every class and profession will drop by the Cantina at some point in time this is a real blessing because you get to hear it all first like the adventures, quests, issues of the day, etc. Good players and good entertainers will chat during the down time. We learn as much from them as they will from us.

One of the things that will be very important when SWG goes live is new players will come to see us with the common questions:

How come my health is not getting better, How do I heal my wounds, Why is my Battle Fatigue now going down, Where is the bank, how do I find X? etc.

Ok dont get RSI typing the same answer over and over again. And please dont get frustrated with them either. We were all there at one time or another.

    Make helpful message macros:

    Here is an example:

Hi, %NT if you click and target an entertainer and /watch dancers or /listen to musicians your Battle Fatigue will slowly start to heal up after a few minutes.

Hi, %NT you need to go to the Hospital and /sit there to heal up. Also if a player medic is on staff they can heal your wounds there even faster.

Hi, %NT press Control V and then on the right panel click on the item you want. For banking click it to open, select the city you are in and then right click create waypoint. This will add it to your data pad as a waypoint.

And many more. This will save you the time, effort and possible frustration later while still being helpful.

    *holds up a sign*
Will entertain for food, clothing, etc.

Tips, any type of gifts, etc. are always appreciated but should never be expected. Doing it this way keeps the game fun for all involved.

Players can now /tip playername amount bank to issue funds directly from their bank at a 5% transfer fee. Its great stuff because you can /tip from across the galaxy.

Also having extra clothes, items are always handy to keep you looking fresh and new. Good players will offer clothes and items in place of tips a lot of times. Big burly Bounty Hunters will usually have no use for red slippers, fancy dress shirts etc.

Any generosity offered from players is exactly that, kindness in show of appreciation of their Battle Fatigue down time wiped away in a blink of an eye.

    Medics are always welcome!
Invite them in the band if you can. Having a medic standing around healing your action wounds allows you to keep the party running hard and the medic gets fantastic experience along the way. It is a very good relationship.

Lastly, I hope you enjoyed the guide as much as I did writing it. I hope to see you all out there! Keep the party going!

      /stopdance;
      /pause 5;
      /healdamage self;
      /pause 5;
      /ui action toolbarSlot02

For the dancing macro with healing you have to make sure you have a lot of smallstims B or better and first aid IV, if you don't have first aid IV you will need to heal yourself more times or else you won't be able to do many flourishes

Some friends of mine finally convinced me to buy SWG (which should arrive Monday), and in the meantime I've been doing research to try and decide what I'd like to do.  I finally decided to go for an Entertainer, but I have a question about race:

I know that the Twi'lek gain certain bonuses as the Entertainer profession, but I'm actually quite fond of the Zabrak and Rodians and was considering trying one of those races instead. Does this help at all to stand out as an entertainer, and would you say that doing so is worth sacrificing the bonuses?

Stop asking for tips, I get tells from patrons when my band members ask for tips, I get the hate for it because they see my Master title and they ask me to shut you guys up, but you never listen, as a result you scare away the patrons and you end up spamming your tip messages more.

Don't ask for tips, don't even hint at tips as described in this guide, it's bad form and patrons really get turned off by it.

To gain Musicianship XP, you have to perform Flourishes.  I should warn you, it goes up REALLY slow (unless they've changed it since my last play time). If it hasn't been changed, it's about 5 XP per flourish. Since I'm a Twi'lek, I have a TON of Endurance, but if you're not, you may end up resting a few times.

As for my question, has Musicianship XP been going up faster?

Also, just as a comment, since I don't seem to make much in tips, don't forget kids, helping another Entertainer in learning skills may just be the ticket to good friends and good equipment =).

That's not quite right there Soori (though you posted a long time ago and maybe it's just changed since then).

When you flourish it starts a very short timer, and while that timer is going you get musician or dancer experience in smaller and smaller amounts.

So: I do a flourish and almost straight away get say 5 exp, then next cycle I would get 3 exp, and the cycle after that I would get 1 exp.  After that I would get no exp until after my next flourish.

At musicianship II playing 'Rock' with a Fizz in a full group, I get 13 experience to start the timer, which then decays as 13,9,6,3,nothing. If you play two flourishes in fast succession you get more experience still (22 through to 25 for me at the moment).

The amount of exp you start with goes up as you get new songs and instruments, which is why you often see people forming separate entertainer groups for advanced musicians. It is also affected by how many people there are in your entertainer group (more is better) and I think (can't confirm this) that more people listening to your group has an effect also. The most I've seen in this group today is 15 (for a single flourish), but when I logged on after server up and joined four other people I was only getting 7.

Because of the way the timer works, it's worth flourishing a lot.. but obviously this will run your action down faster and you might need to take a break or get healed. The ideal balance is to flourish twice just before the second wave of experience hits so you're getting maximum points each time without wasting any action on flourishes before they're needed. I find a /pause 12 with a /pause 2 between the two flourishes does this perfectly for me.

        Hope this helps,

I am fuzzy on the details, but by watching the Master Dancer/Musician you can get your mind pool buffed, and it lasts about 20 minutes.  It isn't an earth shattering amount, and the dancer has no control over it. I found a short discussion on it on www.galacticscouts.com PA forum. They did have more info on how to do it there.

I have an Entertainer on Ahazi server and I can tell you, you should make REALLY GOOD FRIENDS with a Master Doctor. He enhanced my action last night to well over 3k and added similar amounts to my Health and stamina. I was able to dance non-stop without any downtime with every flourish, lights, sparkles and whatever else known to man going for way over an hour and a half. I finally just went to bed before it wore off.

Yeah, it should be pointed out that the amount of exp you get for Entertainment Healing and Dancing/Musician is DIRECTLY RELATED to the number of people performing in the band and the number of people watching. The more people in your band, the more exp you get!  The more people being healed, the more you get. Sure our profession is about helping people, about performing, looking and sounding good... but to us it's also about getting EXP! So don't walk into a cantina and refuse to group and solo, you're screwing yourself over as much as anyone else.

Just do not target anyone and type /watch if you are dancing, or /listen if you are playing an instrument and you will heal yourself.  Note that you can only heal battle fatigue in a cantina, concert hall, hotel, or your own private residence not in a camp. In camps you can only heal mind wounds.

I've noticed that certain combinations of flourishes will give higher xp on the tick. Usually these are three or more flourishes in a row but I have also noticed an increase with certain two flourish combos. I am a musician in the game and an amateur musician in RL. It seems to my ear that the flourishes that get the most xp would also sound "correct" or resolve themselves if playing a peice of music for real. I'm not about to show my limited knowledge of music thoery in the venue but if you have a half decent ear you can usually tell which flourishes sound better if stuck together and in which order they should be played. I hope that helps a bit.

No, you cannot change someone's apparent race or gender.  You can however change any appearance setting that you would choose when creating your character as well as allowing for some additional hairstyles, etc that were not selectable in the original character creation process.

You can either make them yourself using a general crafting kit or a Weapon, Droid, General crafting kit, or have another musician craft them for you.  The ability to craft musical instruments is based off your musician level. There is another guide on here that covers musicians only.

I think it's worth mentioning, that the Fanfar and the Kloo Horn do not have distinct sounds, but are simply different-looking, identical-sounding variants of the Slitherhorn and the Fizzz.

They do give much more experience, especially on lower songs. They're great if you have to play StarWars1 and Rock because you have less experienced entertainers in your band.

Oops, after posting this, I found Martyn's Musician's guide... forgive me being redundant. :)

I have a corection for the previous about like-soundinng instruments. The Kloo horn and the Fizz are the ones that sound alike. Although i do not yet own a Slitherhorn I would bet that it sounds identical to a fanfair. I hope that saves you some credits in the bazaar.

Well, you could always add up your tips up when you guys are done and split it evenly between everyone, since you are in the same entertainment group and all.

This guide was really helpful.  I started an entertainer last night, went to the Mos Eisley cantina, joined up with 2 other musicians and 3 dancers, and had WELL over 1000 exp in Musicianship in about 10 - 15 minutes and about 700 something in Entertaiment healing as well. It was fun. As you said, the only frustrating part is when people try to tip you, but they don't know how All that is say is "Type /tip (amount) to tip your dancer or musician. Tips are not needed, but greatly appreciated. Have fun!" The only problem is that everyone was tipping the female Twi'lek dancers (Come on, admit it, that is every guys favorite part of Return of the Jedi. I know it is one of mine . )
