  • Applejack's How to Load a Macro Text File

    I'll try my best to clarify how to load in a macro text file and run it in the game. This method lets you create very complex, very long macros. Much longer than the ones you can create in-game. However, it DOES NOT allow you to create looping macros. Looping macros are now impossible in the game, FYI.

    If you follow these directions exactly, you should be able to load and run macros from text files.

    STEP 1: CREATING THE TEXT FILE
    Run notepad or any other text editor. Begin by typing in the following macro text. Don't just cut and paste from this posting, because it's possible for you to unknowingly copy special characters, which will cause SWG to not read the file correctly. So type. By hand. I'll surround the text with a line to indicate the beginning of the file and one to indicate the end of the file, but DON'T TYPE THESE LINES. These are just for your reference here, and shouldn't appear in your text file.

    ----< BEGINNING OF FILE - DON'T INCLUDE! >----
    testmacro: /wave;/pause 10;/cheer;/testmacro2

    testmacro2: /wave
    ----< END OF FILE - DON'T INCLUDE! >----

    Make sure you type this EXACTLY. Note the spaces, punctuation, etc. If it's not exactly right, SWG won't understand your file. Now, save the file somewhere you'll be able to find it. The desktop, or whereever. Save it as "test.txt" - the .txt extension is important.

    STEP 2: MOVING THE TEXT FILE TO THE RIGHT DIRECTORY
    Now that you've created a text file, it's time to move it to the directory where SWG can access it. Normally, this is C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies. But you may have installed SWG in a custom directory, so you'll have to determine this yourself. It's the same directory that contains the file SwgClient_r.exe. So if you search for this file, you'll know you've got the right directory. Copy the test.txt file into this directory.

    STEP 3: LOADING THE TEXT FILE INTO SWG
    Start up SWG. If you're already running it, quit and restart. Now in the chat/command entry field where you'd normally type commands or chat, type:

    /load test.txt

    No quotes, just like above. Make SURE you include the ".txt" part. You should get a response:

    Aliases loaded from: test.txt

    If you get any other response, you've probably accidentally done something wrong. Go back to the beginning and double check all your steps. It's also possible that there's some unusual issue with your particular machine, in which case all I can say is sorry

    Once you get the "Aliases loaded" response, your macros are now loaded into SWG. What's happened is that SWG has read your text file and learned two new commands: /testmacro and /testmacro2. These will now be treated like normal commands just like any other command (until you quit the game, at which point it'll forget them).

    STEP 4: RUNNING THE MACRO
    At the command line (where you'd normal enter chat or commands), type:

    /testmacro

    Your character should wave, pause for 10 seconds, cheer, and then wave again.

    What's happened is that /testmacro has issued the /wave command, then the /pause command, then the /cheer command, then the /testmacro2 command. /testmacro2 is a new command you just loaded in, and when executed will issue the /wave command. Here's the text file again for your reference:

    ----< BEGINNING OF FILE - DON'T INCLUDE! >----
    testmacro: /wave;/pause 10;/cheer;/testmacro2

    testmacro2: /wave
    ----< END OF FILE - DON'T INCLUDE! >----

    STEP 5: REAL APPLICATIONS
    Ok, so waving and cheering isn't very useful. However, now that you know how to make a macro text file, you can do useful stuff, like using the supersampler macro posted earlier. Or creating a custom music macro to do flourishes and earn you musician XP while helping people heal. Here's an example music macro:

    ----< BEGINNING OF FILE - DON'T INCLUDE! >----
    musicjam: /flourish 2;/pause 13;/flourish 6;/pause 10;/flourish 3;/pause 8;/flourish 6;/pause 13;/flourish 8;/pause 13;/flourish 8;/flourish 3;/flourish 5;/pause 24;/flourish 1;/pause 8;/flourish 5;/pause 15;/flourish 6;/pause 10;/flourish 3;/pause 14;/flourish 4;/flourish 3;/flourish 3;/pause 18;/flourish 5;/flourish 1;/pause 18;/flourish 1;/flourish 6;/flourish 7;/pause 15;/flourish 2;/pause 13;/flourish 5;/flourish 4;/flourish 8;/pause 24;/flourish 6;/pause 10;/flourish 7;/pause 8;/flourish 8;/flourish 3;/pause 20;/flourish 1;/flourish 5;/pause 20;/flourish 1;/pause 16;/flourish 8;/pause 10;/flourish 1;/pause 12;/flourish 6;/flourish 1;/musicjam1

    musicjam1: /flourish 3;/flourish 7;/pause 10;/flourish 7;/pause 8;/flourish 2;/pause 10;/flourish 8;/flourish 2;/flourish 3;/pause 23;/flourish 5;/flourish 2;/pause 19;/flourish 3;/flourish 5;/flourish 5;/pause 23;/flourish 6;/pause 17;/flourish 1;/flourish 2;/pause 20;/flourish 4;/pause 16;/flourish 2;/flourish 6;/flourish 1;/pause 12;/flourish 1;/pause 9;/flourish 2;/pause 14;/flourish 7;/pause 16;/flourish 8;/pause 15;/flourish 7;/pause 8;/flourish 7;/pause 11;/flourish 5;/pause 13;/flourish 8;/pause 16;/flourish 1;/flourish 6;/pause 18;/flourish 6;/pause 12;/flourish 3;/flourish 1;/pause 10;/flourish 8;/pause 9;/flourish 3;/pause 17;/flourish 5;/pause 14;/flourish 6;/pause 12;/flourish 3;/flourish 7;/pause 10;/flourish 4;/flourish 1;/flourish 5;/pause 14;/flourish 5;/pause 11;/flourish 6;/pause 12;/flourish 4;/pause 10;/flourish 4;/pause 8;/flourish 6;/pause 12;/flourish 6

      /flourish 7;
      /pause 10;

      but since this is about loading aliases from I figured I'd stick with the topic with that last post...

      Also if this is all completely bunk let me know and i'll edit/delete/or take back everything I said =)

      //begin (don't include)//
      Alias1: /flourish 3;pause 10; /Alias2;
      Alias2: /flourish 7;pause 10; /Alias1;

      sure it may keep loopiong and be unbreakable... but as long as you're at work for 8 hours and macro-dancing anyway who cares...  just quit and restart the game when you get home =D

         Looping a macro is alot easier then most peeps think, I will give an example of a simple macro looped.

      U actually need 2 set up 2 macros, but that is not much more work. Here is how to loop a command (This is just an example):
      Name(Macro 1)- JumpUpandDown
      /jump
      /pause 5
      /ui action toolbarSlot02

      Name(Macro 2)- Repeat_JumpUpandDown
      /ui action toolbarSlot01

      Obbviosly, place Macro 1 in the first slot and Macro 2 in the second of your toolbar. U may have to change the /ui action toolbarSlotXX command to fit your needs.

      I hope this will help : )

        It's simple, well, if you have programming experiance.I'll give the nickel tour.
        The / symbol is a command line interface, like in C:/ for DOS. It simply tells the program that the next line is a command, not to be spoken words. The ; is taken from C programming language, it simply means next line, or end of command.

        So, let's say I want to create a macro for healing massive wounds after a battle. The commands would read like this:
        /healwound health;/pause 16;/healwound action

        OK, what I did was told the program I was giving a command by using /. The words "healwound health" makes the program (SWG) have my character heal the Health Wounds of whoever I was currently targeting. Next, the ; key tells the program that that is the end of the command. Next I told the program to expect a command, / key again, this time the command is pause 16. Pause 16 tells the program to wait 16 seconds. Then I told it I was finished with that command using the ; key again. The next command was for healing action wounds. So on, so on.
        A looping macro is almost unnecassary with this type of macro. You can make the macro as long as you like by simply "Copy and Paste" series of commands. Type the first few, Copy them to the clipboard (control+C) while the text is highlighted in your text editor, then Paste it (Control+V) in the very next space after the last command. You just need to be careful of a few things.
        1- Spaces count! We get very used to hitting that Space Key. A space is a character. Extra characters are bad. IE, "/healwound health" will heal wounds. "/healwoundhealth" will return an error message.
        2- Make sure you use the right keys. / and \ ARE NOT THE SAME! Neither is ; or :. I know, hard to tell the difference, but very important.
        3- Capitalization is also important. We english speakers like putting certain things in capitals based on what our 3rd Grade English teacher taught us. The computer, or SWG for that matter, doesn't read english. E and e are two different things. Sure, many programmers write tolorences for this into their code, "HEALwound HEALTH" will work. But it's better to follow EXACTLY as you are shown.
        4- I haven't tested it, but I'm sure .doc files won't work, like Microsoft Word uses. Only .txt files will work. They use completely different alphabets on the code level. I know, you can't see the difference, and Word can open both. But make sure it saves in .txt format. Trust me, a .txt letter A, and a .doc letter A are not the same. A good .txt file creator is included in all Windows systems, Wordpad. Look in Start/Programs/Accessories. Word can save files as .txt too. But it's safer to use Wordpad.
        Using this process you can create Macros in minutes that will run for hours. All they are are loooong text files. There might be a limit too how long a Macro is allowed to be, ie, a 50Meg text file loading during play may cause a problem. But for most purposes, simple as pie.

          One more tip on the finding the right schematic using that particular macro. The schematics are number as per the order you have received and they don't change as long as you don't give up skills and get it back. So, the schematic numbers are different from person to person. Depending on which skills you have trained, the latest ones you trained will have higher numbers.

          So, if you know the order of the skills you have trained, check out which set of schematics you have received from each skill. Then, if you find the number you have chosen gives you a schematic from earlier trained skill that what you want, increase the schematic number gradually until you find it. Reverse the process if opposite is true.

          I hope this helps.

      Quite to the contrary, real entertainers *do* use macros.  Like any tool, macros can be used or abused by the people employing them. I've certainly seen plenty of Dark Entertainers AFK and grinding away while they're off doing something else IRL. I've also seen Light Entertainers using macros to minimize their key-mashing while they talk to customers, help out newbies, make jokes, converse, and otherwise really *entertain* thier customers in the truest sense, not just acting as BF-healing vending machines. (Besides, how many people bother to tip the AFK guy, as opposed to the guy who just gave you a few helpful tips and helped train up one of your skills, hmm? Think about that.)

      I have to admit that earning Entertainer XP can be as boring as watching paint peel. Also, not everyone is interested in talking to people or RPing, and just want to earn their XP and move on. Somedays, I can sympathize. However, just because some of us aren't insane enough to want to type "/flourish 2" 720 times an hour, every five seconds, doesn't mean we aren't *real*. Please don't generalize us.

      My guess is that unless the use of dance/music/craft/survey macros becomes highly abusive or unbalancing, the EULA won't be used as a club against either honest or dishonest players. It would be too much of a hassle otherwise. It's there to cover all the legal bases. So don't give SOE a reason to sic their lawyers on us; play actively, be nice, and don't pet the Wookies. ^_^

I heard there is a way to macro slots from other then current toolbar. If U know how please post. & don't say I'm trying to abuse - there is no way I would have time to double-click 9 times to put armor on & 6 times for clothes. I have 3 sets of armor I switch'em in the battle depending on situation all the time. If I were playing a Krayt Dragon it would be OK but I'm not.

      in game:

      /loadm

        Probably, but I dont see why you wuld need to. All the commmands and macros you need can be loaded in one file. There is no need to create a second (or third) file for more macros. Therefore, no need to complicate things by loading more than one file.

      Is anyone else having issues with ingame popups interrupting their macros.  While harvesting I get spammed about a 'high concentration' area of resources and until I answer no other actions take place. Is there a way to set up a macro which will clear this text box?

      <RANT> I use macro's to harvest materials basically because I don't have a lot of time to play. When I do play I would rather spend time crafting. I make macros that I can set and forget to collect resources. Then when I have a couple hours to play I can make stuff. I was hoping that Star Wars would not become such a time sink as other MMORPG games can be (read EQ). It was posted that SWG would be enjoyable to even casual players but in order to be a casual Artisan I have to log each night to check harvesters, reload power and maintenance pools, ensure resources are still available, run missions to get money . . . blah blah blah. I don't have this kind of time, nor will I until all my kids are grown and out of the house (16 years at least). I guess this is just another way to ensure customers spend as much time as possible in front of the SOE banner.

        Look at the site cloudy.cloudy.biz  Yeah, stupid domain name but it has a "script generator" for both dancing and music. It just sets up up to 30 aliases in sequence that starts the specified dance, does 16 flourishes. (timing etc based on the action oints avail for the char used for testing) Then sits down and rests and repeats. Also generates the aliases to stop it, so the if you want end the aliases run, load the alternate file and the most time you'll have to wait for the end of the run is 16 flourishes and the regen pause at the end.
        Leave any suggestions here. :)
