    Author: Cyras "TK608" DeValera

The updated version of this text can be found at http://phreakre.idlegames.com/theden/retreatmissions.txt .

    I. Introduction

The Emperor's Retreat sits upon a hill at +2400 , -3900 on Naboo. It is just west of Moenia, which also serves as the best place to shuttle and cloning if you wish to have easy access to these missions. At the present time, the ending of the mission set is gated or perhaps it's trigger remains undiscovered, but the NPC's that give out these missions (in order) are Chamberlain Kaja Or'Zee, Inquisitor Loam Redge, Lord Hethrir, Captain Thrawn, Colonel Veers, The Emperor, and Darth Vader. Additionally, after you complete Darth Vader's tasks for you, he sends you back to the Emperor. However, at the time of this writing, the Emperor does not say anything except that he cannot use you now and you should go hone your skills more.

I recommend having 1500+ faction points before trying this if you want to get the "gifts" and also having no negative thug faction. If you have -5000 thug faction like I do, METHOD 1 is very important to you. If you do not have enough faction every mission complete will say "A gift was placed in your backpack" but it really wasn't, don't worry, you can go on.

    II. Definitions

One person is defined as a single person with 200 Imperial Faction Points, but is *NOT* overt, possessing a specialist level combat skill and a decent (150+dmg) weapon that they are reasonably comfortable with. This person is capable of giving and receiving orders from others in his group, can run when necessary, can avoid red spots on their radar, and is comfortable retaining agro and not gaining that much experience. On a lot of the later missions, 1 person is also defined as possessing an assault droid (ProBot) or having some pets capable of helping them.

A group is comprised of a set of these "one person" type people. All specialists who are comfortable taking orders and are *NOT* overt.

    III. Think Covert

I repeat that not overt part because it is very important and a matter of courtesy to others doing their missions. An Overt soldier will die a lot more often during these missions as they spawn creatures that are almost always hostile to overt imperials and killing someone else's mission target will *not* give them a successful mission, resulting in them having to start over. Being Covert will enable you to travel around the retreat easier and pick off your mission mobs with a lot less difficulty. I think I expressed the necessity of covertness.

    IV. The Methods

    Method 1 : The Absent-minded Kiter

When I mention "Method 1" I am referring to the ability to engage a creature and not result in combat. You will approach a likely hostile creature, let him engage you, then run around with him in very close proximity until he breaks contact. At that point, you will turn around and engage him in conversation as if he didn't just chase you 150m or more trying to kill you. This is an important method.

    Method 2 : Assassination

This method consists of using other members of your group or your pets as fodder while you concentrate on killing the mission target, then escaping as soon as it pays out the experience.

    V. Failure

Failure is good. Infact, failure is not something to be afraid of. When you fail a mission, simply deleting the waypoint from your datapad and returning to the NPC that issued the mission will allow you to restart your mission as if nothing happened and the Naboo Queen's Handmaiden didn't actually die when you were supposed to escort her to the Emperor.

    VI. The Missions (long)

    VIa. Kaja Or`Zee

Kaja is located at the door to the Retreat, you can't miss her. She's an ugly old hag that you will grow to hate, she's also the only one who can let you into the main rooms of the retreat, so treat her nice to her face and do what she wants. Kaja will give you five missions, two escort and three destroy..

    1. Escort the Governer (1 person)

This mission will randomly spawn a very lost governer in the nearby wilderness which you must go out, talk to, and let him follow you back to Kaja. You are only required to talk to him then return to her, if he dies enroute, thats his problem, you still get paid.

    2. The Rebel Sympathizer (2-3 persons recommended)

This mission will randomly spawn a rebel sympathizer plus two or three (I've had both) Rebel Corporal's to guard him. They are all white to a group of three with specialist level skills, but if you eliminate the Corporal's first, you can then engage the Sympathizer alone.

    3. The Assassin (2-3 people recommended)

This time, the Hag wants you to go kill an assassin that has been reported to be in the area. He is white/yellow to a group of three specialists and will put up a good fight. Bring a buddy or two and kill him.

    4. The Droid Programmer(s) (2-3 people recommended)

This time, droid programmers are your targets. They made something naughty and Kaja wants them destroyed. There will be 1 -or- 2 Droid programmers plus two or three Rebel Corporal's to guard them. They are all white to a group of three and the programmers love to hang out with the local snake population so be careful, the snakes whip groups fast.

    5. Retrieve the lost Droid (1 person)

This is an escort mission. Head to your waypoint, talk to the droid and bring him back to Kaja. You'll be doing a lot of this. After you successfully complete this mission, you can enter any part of the Retreat.

    VIb. Inquisitor Loam Redge

The Inquisitor is directly inside the main hall to the left. The wall skillfully hides the door, but it will slide to the side when you enter. Soon as you pass the place you formerly couldn't because Kaja was being a pain, turn left, he's standing right there waiting to tell you what to do.

    1. Apprehend a Noble (1 person)

There is a noble who thought he could help the rebellion and escape imperial notice. He was wrong, head to the waypoint, talk to him, and get him to come back to the Retreat to complete this mission. (You can kill him, but I never actually had to)

    2. Bring a Rebel Leader in for Questioning (1 person)

This gentleman will spawn when you accept this mission. Go talk to him and drag him back in for questioning, he'll come quietly.

    3. Intercpet the Slicer (1 person)

This slicer is easy, you walk up to them and kill her. It took one shot.

    4. Capture the Leader

This slicer is the leader of the group you've been bringing to the Inquisitor. Head out to the waypoint and use METHOD 1 to talk to him. After you do, head back to the Retreat.

VI-c. Lord Hethrir, Procurator of Justice

The Procurator is on the otherside of the Emperor's Elevator from the Inquisitor. Much like the Inqui's door, Hethrir's is skillfully hidden. Walk up to him and his broken bot named Bug and he will start bossing you around immediately..

    1. Locate a counterfieter (1 person)

The first thing Hethrir wants you to do is locate an information counterfieter and buy the information off of him, then eliminate him. Well, you really only have to eliminate him. Don't even bother talking, let your blaster do it for you. Easy kill.

    2. Eliminate the Owner of a Rebellion Meeting House (1 person)

This gentleman owned the place where that counterfeiter met with the rebellion. He must pay. Locate him at the waypoint provided and eliminate him. Its easy.

    3. Eliminate the Leader of the Rebel Group (1 person)

This was the person who met with the Counterfieter at the Meeting House. Go kill him. Another one hit wonder. This is getting to easy.

    4. Deliver a HoloDisk to a Holonet Broadcaster (1 person)

Locate the Holonet Broadcaster at your waypoint. He will attack you, use method #1 to communicate with him, then wander off. Killing him will result in a failed mission, make sure you get away w/o doing it.

    5. Bring a Serial Killer to Trial (1 person)

A serial killer thinks he is being brought in for questioning by the Procurator of Justice. Go out into the wilderness and find him at the waypoint then escort him back to see Lord Hethrir. Easy mission.

    VI-d. Captain Thrawn

Captain Thrawn is on the balcony inback of the retreat. You access it by going through the door right next to Lord Hethrir's door, then going down the hallway and making the first left at the fork the going straight out the small door. He's standing (currently naked and blue) next to Colonel Veers outside. He's a bit nicer, but in a mean way..

    1. Escort A Commander to Safety (1 person)

Captain Dolman's shuttle has been shot down. You head out to your waypoint and pick him up, take him back to the Captain for a nice reward. Easy escort mission.

    2. Bring Back the BlackBox from the Shuttle (1 person)

This is a mission to go find a black box that really doesn't exist, a Thug has already picked it up! Kill the Thug (be slippery about it, use method #2) and slip away before his buddie's find out. This was an easy mission.

    3. Deliver the plans of a secret rebel weapon (1 person)

A rebel base has been discovered in the emperor's backyard and it possesses a weapon capable of downing shuttles! You must deliver the holodisks you recently aquired from a Thug to an analyst named Geg Winthasen, after visting the Captain in between, of course. Nice reward, Geg is a bit fat for a stormtrooper.

    4. Kill a Fambaa for his blood (5+ people, bring help, lots of it)

There are currently four ways to do this mission. It is the most difficult mission in any set in the Emperor's Retreat. It consists of travelling to your waypoint and killing a very large very tough dinosaur looking thing called a Fambaa.

    A. Kite it. Old fashioned running and gunning. I did this, it took 35 minutes.

    B. Get the Rebels to kill it! Run around the fambaa a bit and look for NPC humanoids (517 used rebels) and kite the Fambaa into them and they will help you kill it. This is a modified version of A.

    C. Use the snag bug. Run the Fambaa around until he lodges in a tree (similar to how some people kill Kimoligas solo) then shoot it to death. This bug is still in the game.

    D. Bring lots of help. At 5 specialists in your group, this thing turns yellow. With 3 in your group, if you're good and all have warning shot, you can use that to mix up body/head/leg shots together and chase it off when you get low on HAM bars.

    5. Pickup a painting brush from a seller (1 person)

This is a breeze compared to the mission before it. This lady doesn't know you're an imperial, feel free to kill her once she engages you.

    6. Destroy the Cell responsible for the Cannon (2-3 people)

This is the first step in vengence for Captain Dolman's Shuttle crash. Destroy the cell located at the waypoint provided, its a nice little bit of experience. They're pretty easy if you have Probot at this point forward. Though a red commando will do serious damage to you if you go unprepared, so bring a buddy.

    VI-e. Colonel Veers

    1. Destroy the Rest of the Rebel Base (1-2 people)

There is a set of rebels located at the waypoint. Kill them all, return to Veers for more instructions. If you have a Probot, this is easy.

    2. Rescue the Stormtroopers (1-2)

A group of stormtroopers is pinned down at the waypoint, though I have never found them. Go to the waypoint, kill everything even remotely thug or rebel around it and your mission should be complete. Another fire mission that isn't too hard if you're a specialist with a pet or have a buddy.

    3. Clean the Shuttle Debris and get the Manifest (1-2 people)

The manifest for the shuttle is important to Colonel Veers, make sure you pick it up from the Thug after you waste him. These Thug's are very good at searching through burning wreckage.

    4. Capture Borvo the Twi'lek and bring him in (1-2 people)

This is an easy mission as long as you DO NOT SHOOT THE TWI'LEK. I missed that handy part the first time around. Borvo is yellow on your radar, the rest are red and will engage together. Kill them all, then go talk to Borvo. If you shoot him, you may need to use METHOD 1 to calm him down.

    5. Destroy the Real Borvo and Clean up the Stragglers

Colonel Veers is going to clean out Borvo's base with some ATAT's, which you will never see. You will proceed to the waypoint and eliminate the fleeing "REAL" Borvo along with all his lackies. Kill everyone, failure to do so will result in a failed mission.

    VI-f. The Emperor

Congradulations, you've made it to an audience with the Emperor. The Emperor is accessable from the elevator between the two royal guards in the main room. (like you haven't already been up there soon as Kaja let you in the building). He is impressive, kneel before him like Vader and utter "What is thy bidding, my master?" Its neat.

    1. Capture the Thug Ringleader (1 person)

Emphasis again on the "capture" part. Use Method 1 on the Thug Ringleader at your waypoint and he will come with you for execution by the Emperor.

    2. Deliver the Plans to Ringleader 2 (1 person)

This is pretty much an exact clone of the first mission with different storyline. You deliver some plans that don't exist to a Thug Ringleader that you have to use METHOD 1 on to talk to you.

    3. Kill the Security Guards (1-3 people)

These guards are tough. Bring a buddy or two to take them out. They guard the Queen's summer home, though you don't see the home when you do this mission, just a "security officer" that you have to kill, then head back to the Emperor. Its tough doing his business.. no, not really.

    4. Escort the Handmaiden to the Emperor (1 person)

This is a simple exec-protect mission. Run to the waypoint, talk to the snooty little handmaiden to get the "finish mission" waypoint message, then lead her into a group of rebels and let them kill her, because she's so high and mighty. (She will kneel and use a blaster to defend herself, its funny.. especially when he congradulates you on returning her to him unharmed).

    5. Elminate the Rebel Cell responsible for the assault on the Queen ( 1-3 people)

These rebels are a shadow compared to their compatriots. Kill them all and show the world what it is to defy the Emperor and the Queen. She will watch you doing this remotely and become disgusted. These are a set of three rebel troopers, an easy kill.

    6. Deliver the Queen's Message to the Parliament Courier (1 person)

Take a recording of the Queen's speech to the Parliament courier for the Emperor, he is standing at the waypoint waiting for you in typical snooty fashion.

    7. Assassinate the Rebel General ( 1-5 people)

Depending on how "thorough" you are, this can take one person and a probot or five really skilled people. Standing around at the waypoint for this firemission is a yellow general and four white colonels/specmarines. The General is the target, I used METHOD 2 to kill him and ran away, suffering huge wounds in the process. My probot put up a good fight, long enough for me to eliminate the General and make my escape.

    VI-g. Darth Vader

Vader is located by where you went to see Colonel Veers and Captain Thrawn. In the hallway there, instead of making a left towards the balcony door, proceed straight, then make the first left, then immediately a right through a pair of large machine doors. There will be two stormtroopers there waiting and you know you have the right room. Walk directly across the room towards the curved part in the wall and once you are standing almost right on it, it will open and Vader will be standing there. He's a tall **edit** and has a job for you to do..

    1. A Rebel on Naboo (1 person)

Vader uses his magic spidey sense tingling to detect a single rebel on Naboo. Go kill him.. he doesn't really say why. Proceed to the waypoint and put a bullet in his head, then return to Vader. Easy kill.

    2. Retrieve the Master's Agent's Information (1 person)

This is a small delivery mission with one bonus, Mara Jade. The agent for the Master is actually Mara Jade. Check her out in a rather neat looking leotard with red and grey web pattern. She even has the facial scar.. is she supposed to? Who cares.. its Mara.. *purr*.

    3. Meet the Rebellion's Courier and Kill him (1 person)

Find the Rebellion's Courier and put a bullet in him. He doesn't take more than one shot and falls down like a little girl.. such is the plight of the rebellion. Return to Vader afterwards for a neat reward. (I got grenades)

    4. Meet Lord Vader's Information Broker (1 person)

This is part one of a two part deal with this information broker. The first mission is a simple delivery mission. Approach him, talk to him, return to vader. Easy enough.

    5. Kill the Information Broker (1-4 people)

This is the second part of a two part deal with this information broker. You know Vader doesn't like loose ends, so you are dispatched to kill the information broker who reported on the "battle at the cantina".. one can only infer they are speaking of the Obi-Wan incident in the Mos Eisley Cantina. Once you come within sight of him, an assassin and a mercenary will appear out of nowhere, both yellow to a group of three specialists, and start attacking. Ignore them, kill the information broker and make your escape, METHOD 2 is important here. If you have some buddies, kill them all for **edit**s and giggles.

    6. Kill Kaydeer, Obi-Wan's Friend (1-2 People)

Kaydeer is a friend of Vader's old nemesis and teacher, ObiWan Kenobi. Kill him with a few shots. He likes to hide out around gangs of Maulers (who will inflict serious injuries in you if you get close enough) so shoot him from a distance, then make your escape while you have a successful mission. After you complete this mission, Vader is done with you.

    VI-h. The Emperor (Part 2)

Vader sends you back to the Emperor, saying he demands you present yourself to him. When you do, he says that he has no use for you at the current time and you should go hone your skills. I have tried different faction levels and different ranks, nothing I can do will make him talk to me anymore. If you know how to activate him at this point, send an email to Cauchemar@charter.net and tell me so I can update this guide. Thanks!

    VII. Closure

There is none. This ends very quickly on a mission that is just starting to present a very interesting storyline. If you are really into storylines and roleplaying like I am, your character is now responsible for tracking down and killing two rebellion cells, a thug one, rescuing a group of stormtroopers, including two captains and doing numerous favors for both the Emperor and Darth Vader involving Jedi. Have fun, I did. =)

If you aren't a roleplayer, you just got 1871 faction points and probably got a promotion and a nice pet or two out of this deal. Additionally, you're set up for what will probably be a series of Emperor Gift missions that have been talked about for a long time. I hope you enjoyed it.

    VIII. Updates and Errata

    -None at this time-

Also Captain & Colonel R heavily bugged in every possible way. EXPECT to leave at some point & come back next day to avoid frustration.

The part of "probably got a promotion and a nice pet or two out of this deal" completely escapes me I didn't get any promotion nor any pets. Just some crappy weaps half of those I couldn't even use. I started with 4k faction. Due to bugs I hed to leave Retreat couple of times. Last mission from Vader I started with 8102 FP. Got Flamethrower. I must have looked like Commando to him. Broke & naked Commando since Flamethrower was worse then any other I've seen or heard. Again do not expect anything besides FP & feeling of acomplishment to avoid frustration. I didn't. Good luck.

I'm just guessing but maybe when Vader sends you to the Emperor AND if at that point you have unlocked your force sensitive slot (or have reached the requirements for it), you could become a dark jedi?

Does anybody have an idea of what you need to do to unlock the force sensitive slot cause this still seems to be a mystery (cant find any info on it)?

      Anyway just my 2 cents
