    Sabbath's Fishing guide

Well to fish your gonna need a fishing pole right?

    Lets make a fishing pole

    Step 1 get the resources
a.Fishing-rod requires 7 units of inorganic
b.Fishing-line Guides requires 2 units of metal
    c.Fishing-line requires 4 chemical
d.Fishing-rod reel requires 5 units of metal

Step 2 You will need a generic crafting tool

Step 3 make sure all the resources are in your main pack and open the tool

Step 4 go to the generic items

    Step 5 choose fishing pole

then just follow the steps to create it.

Your gonna need some bait for those fish to bite so lets find some fishing bait

Step 1 find a scout, if you are a scout start foraging

These fishing rods need to be loaded to fish so lets load that pole with some bait

Step 1 Open the radial on the fishing pole.
    a. Hold left mouse button down on the fishing pole till radial opens
    Step 2 Open

Step 3 drag the bait into the containter

You can also just drag and drop the bait onto the rod icon.

    choosing your bait

you have 3 types of bait that I have found so far
    #1 Worm-bait this is foraged

    #2 Bugs-this is foraged

#3 chum bait-this is what you get from filleting the fish

Once baited your going to want some water with some nice weeds or rocks.
This is just my paticular favorite fishing location type, I don't think it really matters.

Walk out into the water, about knee deep.

type /fish or make a macro for it. You can also use the radial to cast your fishing line.

once your bobber is out in the water its time to wait and watch your fishing menu

    The fishing Menu

    Status- Waiting,Nibble,Bite,Caught something
    Bait Status-Fresh,Soggy,Mush
Line Range - The furthest I have cast with a rod I made my self was 9.78m
Next Action- Tug up,Tug Right,Tug Left,Small Reel, Stop Fishing

Status tells you what is going on with your line and bobber
Bait Status tells you what condition your bait is in.
Line Range shows you how far or close your bobber is to you.
Next Action shows you what you need to click on to preform the next action.

you will get nibbles and bites and sometimes they will just steal your bait.

I have found that the best time to do one of the rod actions is right after a bite.

    your rod actions are

    tug
    tug left
    tug right
    small reel
    stop fishing

Once you have your fish you can filet it and get fish meat and more fishing bait from each fish.

The larger the fish the more meat you get.But it vaires greatly

above all else have fun and make up good fishing stories.

i tried this and had 0 luck. now have more questions.

I've gotten the onscreen message "you cast your line and begin to fish" now how do i get the fishing status menu to come up?

Does it only come up when you get a nibble? How long does it usually take to get a nibble? I don't see the bobber in the water. Also there were a few fish swimming right near me but they didn't bite. Which bait type gives the best success?

Also when crafting a fishing pole what are the best minerals (or properties to look for) to use? i've made a few and the best i can get (i'm master artisan) is 63% after experimenting (though I had experimentation points left over). Is 63% the max?

CLARIFICATION ON HOW THE NIBBLE/TUG SYSTEM WORKS:
The correct way to fish is to cast your line and wait for a "nibble" result. After you get a nibble, tug in one of the three directions(right, left or up). If you choose the right direction, you will get a "BITE" result. Again, choose another direction. If your second choice is right as well, you will get a "CAUGHT SOMETHING?" result, after which you should do a short reel-in. Then you will be treated to a sometimes dramatic conclusion to your catch(either you will catch it or it gets away). Moving closer to the bobber does seem to help improve success.

There is always a two-tug combination when you fish...that is the secret to it, figuring out that combo. so if you tug right first(i usually start with right, seems to be the first one more often than not) and you get a "BITE" result, you know the next will be either another right, left or up. If you do not choose the correct tug the process will start all over again, your line will be drawn closer to you and your bait status will recede. But it seems to determine the tugging combination when you cast the line, so it's sort of like a memory/guessing game, and will stay the same until you either lose your line, reel all the way in or catch your fish.

Also, in development notes declared that fish will be changing a bit, namely different planets will have different colors :) Pretty nice, considering the limited kinds of fish there are so far....

This is Feather Tal'Len from Tarquinas Server.

I've caught so many fish. I have them comin' out my ears. My mon cal husband decorated my shop with them and we call it the 'fishbowl' but I want more! It seems that the fish are the same on ALL the planets =( I have, with the help of my friends as well, acumulated over 50 fish but they are all the same types:

      A Faa
      A Laa
      Blowfish
      Blue Fish
      Black Fish
      Stripped Fish
      A Ray

And that's all of them that I've found so far.

I've had the best luck with this stratagy. Tug one direction until you get a bit then tug the oposite direction to set the hook. After you see 'Caught Something!' flash on your screen select 'Small Reel In' on the menu to bring the line just a bit closer. (the closer your line is when you catch something the less fight you have reeling it in. And they will fight you.)

I usually get good results with Right, Right, Left, Small Reel In.  Or just Right until you get a bite then left and you should catch. Then the computer takes over for the reel in fight.

Another trick is to move closer to your bobber to reel in faster but don't get too close! Or your line will go slack and you'll loose your fish and your bait.

If your character begins a swim animation because you moved into water that was too deep you will also loose your fish and bait.

      Hope this helps =)

I'd have to agree you don't have much choice in fish, which is a shame. There should be species of fish for every planet, and they don't need to use different models, just name them something new.

Once you get the message "Caught Something?!" you don't need to do any more actions, because the computer takes over when you get the message, and any action you do doesn't actually do anything.

I'm seriously thinking about starting up a bait shop somewhere to sell bait, fishing poles, and fish. I figure I can decorate the place with a bunch of fish I catch, and park the shack near a lake somewhere.

A bio-engineer friend of mine is totally thrilled at all the fish fillets I give him. I guess its the material hardest for him to get so if for no other reason keep in mind that this is an A1 trading item to get a pet with.

Although I do have a secret spot where I can pitch camp close enough to the river and earn Scouting XPs while reeling 'em in. Just cast and wait. From what I have learned, the various controls are for novelty value only.

I can't remember where I read this, but this should help all your Fishing Needs:

        1) You have an increased chance of getting a fish if you cast on a pocket of fish seen in rivers and lakes.

        2) After you get a bite on your pole, you'll see your bob move around the water.

        3) When it gets roughly closer to shore, physically MOVE to the bob and attempt to pick it up in the water.

I was told the success rate is MUCH better.  And it makes sense too, if anyone here actually fishes in RL, you'll know you need a net and DO NOT pick the fish up out of the water with the hook and line or the hook will come out of it's mouth and you'll lose the fish.
