The only problem I can see with duel wielding something like swords is the fact that people will duel wield stun batons and it will effectively double the damage a fencer can deal in PVP. They are already by far the best PVP profession, and if you notice pistoleers and fencers have high defenses, but low damage. I think if this is implimented then the carbineers, swordsman, pikemen (a little) and rifleman (somewhat) need their defenses improved to be on par with the professions that can now deal as much or more damage then they can.

I very much so love the idea of which hand being dominent because, I myself, am left-handed and I'd like to see my character be left-handed too.

bad thing about speed being the main hand wep, slice wep in main hand for speed, slice  wep in sec hand for damage,  i smell exploits coming i think  each wep should be considered as per its stats.

For one handed swords they could allow a main hand sword and a smaller weapon on the off hand (have you ever really tried to  wiled 2 swords?  saber and  main gauche techniques and katana wakizashi(sp?)  were popular because they were way more useful than 2 cutlasses or 2 katanas)

add off hand delay  speed starting at 3.0x 2.4x, 1.9x, 1.5x, 1.2x 1.0x (novice to master progression)
add off hand  accuracy penalty as -70 -45 -25 -15 -5  0 (novice-master)
add damage penalty on melee weapons in the same way as the previous progressions (numbers for damage should be tweaked with care)

modify center of being and berserk in melee (maybe one handed lightsabers too i hate jedis but fair is fair ) so that you can choose to use off hand to raise defense or to add damage , thus players could use more fighting styles.

as per holsters i think it is a good idea (lightsabres should not get that because then there would be no way to ever land a blaster hit on a jedi ever unless they would suffer delay as if they were not held and then auto held, ... autoheld your lightsaber may not be a good idea in the middle of coronet if you could avoid it so jedis beware of your holster)

you should apply for new content coordinator   your ideas are at least fun to read , i for one would subscribe to your SWG:AED version

The star warsy feel needs to be brought to the surface as much as possible. The holsters and dual wielding would help do that.

Take a vote...who wouldn't like to have the low slung holster hanging off their hip like Han Solo? Who wouldn't like to narrowly escape a jedi with the speed of dual blasters like Jango Fett? Who wouldn't like to have their lightsaber hanging menacingly off there belt hook like Qui-Gon Jinn?

IMO the dual wielding should not take a damage or speed penalty, but a huge accuracy penalty (and obviously, doubled HAM cost). Taking into consideration the recoil and lack of stability using one hand for blasters, and the danger to one's self using two swords. But Jango is incredibly fast with his two blasters, and I doubt if one of those blaster bolts caught Obi-Wan upside the head it would do less damage because he's using two. I also like the idea of a dominant hand, like the dual wielding system in KOTOR.

Every thing should have a holster, sling or hook of some sort. EXCELLENT IDEA. Pistols should have holsters, lightsabers a belt hook, rifles (and heavy weapons), a strap to swing over the shoulder and carbines, a sling (like the 5 point sling used on MP-5's and other CQB weapons). The one handed swords should have belt sheathes and two handed, back sheathes. But they should ALL take a slot. The holsters take the belt slot, the sling or back sheath take the back pack/bandolier slot (not to say they shouldn't be socketed). A holstered weapon has that quiet coolness to it..."mess with me and you're toast", where as the blaster in hand seems gung ho or like you need to compinsate for something....short man syndrome.

Glzmo, this is a GREAT set of ideas. I instantly got the image of my commando wearing a Flamethrower and a Rocket Launcher strapped over my Bandelier with my Launcher Pistol holstered, wearing my usual spec ops commando garb....

Yes, this is a really cool idea, but I could see how it might be too difficult to pursue without a major overhaul.  Besides the loads of brand new code that would have to be written, they would have to create new animations for the models.  This may seem like a small task, but honestly, there's a lot involved.  They may even have to rebuild the models.  The new weapon stances will have to integrate seamlessly with current animations/emotes.  As for the holsters, there's another animation, that could get fairly complicated.  Because if you could holster a weapon, but it just appeared on your back/side with little to no animation, people would cry and complain that it looked dumb, so the developers would have to spend quite a bit of time on that animation, which wouldn't just include the character model, but the weapon model as well in order to make sure it looked good, with as few problems as possible.  Also remember that there's something like 7 or 8 races, which would all have to have the new animations.

it's just a GAME.  And I thoroughly enjoy this GAME and apparantly so do you, so please if you're one of the many, stop your complaining, or if you must continue, please do so in a thoughtful, well organized, constructive manner.

What the hell do you think that we all pay our subscription fees for?? For the devs to sit around scratching their asses?? Personally i'd like to see some more "content" in return for all the cash they swipe off of me every month! Its not the amount, just the principle! We all pay subs to play, and it'd be nice to see the devs putting a little more creative thought & effort into the "developing" such as this post suggests! Not just some crappy "Combat Update" & "Veteran Rewards", big wow! Yes the CU will probably be good. but it shouldn't big the next big thing!! It should be an expected, mundane kind of update thats needed rather than wanted! Now if they were to put a new planet into the game etc. thats exciting new content!

Too be honest I don't know why i'm playing another $OE game! Yes they make great games "initially", but i have to say that their development & design ideas post retail are quite poor! I played another $OE game from beta before this, "Planetside". It was an absolutely fantastic MMO-FPS game, but $OE's development really f**ked it right up! I think hundreds of veteran players made for the exit door after some truely awful design decisions! I just hope that the same design team isn't now working on SWG!

But it just seems to me, that after he retail goes on sale, $OE seem to have finished with the "effort" of developing the game, and are happy just to sit back and let ppl pay just to play every month with no return! And probably now with EQ2 out SWG will get even less attention than before!

But hopefully the likes of WoW might spark some more mundane content to come our way soon!

I quite like the ideas posted!  And, yes, hostered weapons do maintain atmosphere, rather than every player walking about with guns in hand...

clapping to music with guns and rifles...

just standing about and talking...with guns firmly grasped in fist...

riding a swoop...with one hand out and a pistol firmly gripped...

...or worse, a rifle.  Then you're riding the bike hands free.

Holsters would be an excellent idea, and quite doable.  It would be nice to see wookiees with a bowcaster on their back.  A rifleman sitting at a cantina with a T-21 shoulder slung.  A pilot awaiting repairs on his ship, nerviously tapping at his holster pistol.

The brief moment of eternity before a fight, when both players snap...and draw weapons!!

I would so LOVE to see this...

who do i bribe?

This all sounds nice and all, but the thing that gets me the most is: It's been done. Almost every game out there, you can dual weild or use a sword and a shield (or one polearm, etc). What good does that do us? How would adding these features enhance SWG as a whole?

I think we need to stop looking at how we can make SWG look like other games, and start looking towards how we can make it more unique. Then again, we're not devs, so what's the point.
