Kanglar’s RIS armor guide
I know there are already a few RIS armor guides out there but most seem to be out dated. This guide will be kept up to date. I wrote this guide so I can inform people about about RIS and how to obtain it. I know, having gotten a the helmet myself, it’s a long process hunting down all the creatures and getting the parts yourself. I look down on people who buy RIS because you should have to earn it.
RIS (reinforced insulated sheath) armor is one of the rarest types armor in the game. The trick is you need to get 4 rare loot drops from 4 rare creatures. After you get those, you have to find a master armorsmith who has completed the RIS quests from the npc on Dantooine. (-6806, 6022) This guide is about hunting the creatures and not the quests or crafting.
These are the 4 things you will need to get:
Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragment Giant Dune Kimogila Scale Peko Peko Albatross Feather Reclusive Gurk King Hide
Remember all these items are loot, not harvested from the creatures. All the parts will look the same, being in the generic hide container. But these creatures will not drop these loots ever kill, you may have to kill several to get a drop. However they may drop several loots per kill. I takes 9 of each for a full suit although peko feathers are optional as they are used for making layers. the parts are helmet, chestplate, pants, boots, right/left bicept, right/left bracer, and gloves.
Hunting guide: this guide is based on my own experiences hunting these creatures.
Woolamanders are relatively weak. Harrowers are the strongest type, with around 10k HAM and 35%-60% resists. The Woolamander temple on Yavin4 is the only place they spawn. 20 wollas spawn at a time. 9 regulars, 3 gatherers, 3 harvesters, 2 harrowers, and 3 stunteds. They respawn on a 1 hour 7 minute timer to the second.
The harrowers are the only ones that drop the loot needed. They drop the bone fragment 1/7 times I estimate. They spawn to the far right of the temple if your facing inward. You should come buffed, however a mid-level melee profession with armor and medic skills can do it without buffs. I also found riflemen can easily do it with conceal shot. Either way be careful, they have a potent poison attack.
There are 4 locked containers in the temple which open on a 2 hour timer and usually contain +1 armor and clothing attachments. If you harvest the woolas in the temple, you will only get 1 unit of hide/bone/meat. You can lure them outside before you kill them to get the full amounts.
Defiantly the toughest RIS creature, the GDK has 85k-98k HAM, medium armor, and 100% resists to heat and acid. It spawns at Kimogila Town on Lok and also has random spawns in the wild. If your looking for wild spawns look in the deep south east of the imperial outpost. They do not spawn out of lairs. (Just so you know, Kimo lairs are always “pile of bones”)
After publish6 the GDK that spawned at kimo town was bugged and did not drop the scale, but it was fixed after publish8. Thats where all the rumors came from about the drop rate being insanely high, as high as 1/200. They also fixed it so you cant get it stuck on the wall and shoot at it from the top of the hill. But thats old news now.
If your looking for wild kimos and see different kinds but no GDKs, search the area for them. kimos are often in large groups. Theres usually a GDK in there somewhere, just look. Every now and then you will find a loner. Look for other kimos or pirates nearby, you can get it to fight them and it will die faster. If you cant find a wild one, try killing all the spawns in the area and one might appear. You will be able to kill it 3 times before the spawn moves. Check Mt. Chaolt too, its a kimo spawn hotspot.
If you’re a mater of any elite combat profession you shouldent have trouble tanking it with buffs and 80% kin comp. It will take awhile so you should also take 2 brandy and a canape so you can spam specials. It does go faster with a group but I suggest to go it alone because of loot stealers. Had some bad experiences with this myself. Its sad you should even have to worry about this, but I guess when the potential loot is so valuable people cant help themselves. I only hunt with my closest friends now.
When you do loot a GDK, make sure you get the scale used to make RIS and not the scale segments for bone armor. The difference is bone armor kimo segments look like armor segments and have stats. The scale used to craft RIS has no stats and is in the generic hide container, as are all RIS components. (They now have serail numbers too)
Id say GDKs drop loot about 1/10 times. This may not sound so bad, but remember over half the time the loot is armor segments. Also, GDKs have a attack called Plague Strike, a potent AoE disease that can black bar you in a minute. Unless you have a tank of some kind, have buffs and brandy and it will only wound your stats to their original unbuffed numbers.
With around 80k HAM, Albatross are tough. They have medium armor with 100% resist to kinetic. They can sometimes be found in pairs, so you can get them to fight each other. To do this lure one from 64m with a rifle, then burst run or get on your bike and head towards the other peko. It should disengage in combat with you and start attacking the other peko when it gets near it.
The hard part is finding them. They have a reputation for being notoriously difficult to find, as they have random spawns all over Naboo. I have found them around rivers most of the time, and most sighting have been reported north of Theed. I have found some along the coastline in the deep south when I take the time to look. If you see giant pekos, there maybe a Albatross nearby so look around.
Albatross have a KD/dizzy combo. If your tanking and you have ranged support make sure your ranged buddy is armored and ready for melee action. If it KDs you and someone is shooting at it, it will focus its attacks on them.
They also have the highest drop rate of any RIS creature, estimated at 1/2.
Recluse Gurk King- (-3755, -3462) and (700, -3300) Lok, also from wild gurk lairs
The Gurk King is the weakest RIS creature. While it has the same HAM as a woola harrower, around 10k, it only has 35% resists and no powerful special attacks. The difference between the king and regular gurks is the king can deathblow and has more HAM.
It can be found on my favorite planet, Lok at the two static spawn points in the deep south. (-3755, -3462) and (700, -3300). Hope your server has a city with a shuttle close by, it can be a long drive from Nym’s. The spawn times here are between 1 hour to 3 hours. It can be a painfully long wait if you insist to camp it.
The Gurk King will also spawn out of wild gurk lairs. They do not spawn out of mission lairs. You can tell if it’s a mission it will say “a gurk lair” and if its wild it will say “a nest”. And dont tap the lair, the gurks respawn naturally. After you clear out all the gurks and start attacking the lair the lair may spawn a Gurk King and 3 crazed gurk destroyers. The gurk destroyers are as strong as the king and have a intimidate attack. The king will not always spawn, except when the lair has 2 feral gurks. Lairs with one or no ferals may still spawn a king, but try to find them with two if you can.
The king drops about 1/5 kills. Its not so bad if you go to both spawns, and maybe take the time to kill a lair or two on your way. You should be able to get a hide within a day.
Extra info on RIS- RIS used to be bugged and the stats shifted. Everyone complained about the worthlessness of RIS because of this. I can honestly say the stats never shifted on my helm when it was bugged. Maybe im just lucky.
My helm has 61% kinetic resist 37% base resist and the ecumb is relatively low at 40/40/191. It was made before the interwoven ackley schematic was in the game so that was not an option at the time. It was also the first piece of RIS the armorsmith had made so I didnt expect it to be great anyways. Today, the stats of RIS widely vary. It can be as high as 90% with the interwoven segment, a good experienced smith making it, and a good slice. (Interwoven segment drops off ackley in geo caves on yavin4) Also with the interwoven segment it can be made with acid and stun resists, so its only venerability will be lightsaber.
Who can wear RIS helmet- This has been a controversial topic recently. The majority of species can not wear the RIS helm. This can be very frustrating for people who find this out after they get the helm made. The other species restrictions still apply for the other parts. Trandos cant wear gloves or boot and wookies cant wear any.
Can wear RIS helm- Human, Zabrak, Twi’lek Can not wear RIS helmet- Trandoshan, Mon Calamari, Rodian, Wookie, Bonthan
*points to guide* stats have never shifted on my helm. they have remained constant at 62% kenetic and 37% base. not too bad but composite is much better. it was made before there was a optional extra layer, otherwise i would have put it in and gotten better resists. ive seen them up to 80% resists and with lower ecumb than composite.
I think what should have been noted by you fellows on those legs is the HAM costs. 33/0/0 for composite level stats AND an extra 10-15k condition? That is a friggin nice set of armor.
Though, the fact that it has no stun is a bummer, especially for the work that goes into a set.
The only set I've seen on my server has worse stats than Mabari, and in fact it wasn't a full suit, they used mabari to help fill out the look (had it sitting up on display).
And as far as looks go, the suit is incredible, definitely the coolest armor in the game. Although, I WILL have to reserve final judgement on that till I try out my second and third sets of wookiee armor, hehe!
