serious question - why do people do this with the large font things? I don't know about you guys but it just annoys the crap out of me. It doesn't make me read it (he says in response to a big font post)

Well Smed... I must say - I don't "know" you, therefore I can not "like" or "dislike" you as a person - My parents always told me "Treat everyone you MEET with respect, and maintain that respect unless it is no longer EARNED". I'm 38 years old by the way..

I've been reading your posts for the better part of today (while running my store - New Moon Comics, LLC in Wayne, NJ) and I must say that I find your dialog to be a breath of fresh air.

Being a native New Yorker - I much rather deal with someone that will give me an answer rather then blow smoke up my...

Here, you've done just that - Provided direct answers...

Except to the "Big Font" question that you replied to.. ROFLMFAO!

Which, if you re-read your post, you did, indeed, ignore it. But, it's a good question that our large-font friend asks... When next you speak to LucasArts, please have them update their SWG site/product Info page. It's rather outdated.

And, "Yes!" Crafters, Smugglers, Creature Handlers, and many of your customer base is quite "Pissed!" at this time... I'll be here until you shut the lights out, but if ThunderHeart calls me and my fellow players "Exploiters" for running a mission over and over, by it's nature and dialog is designed to do exactly that, again... I will leave.

Perhaps it does not bother you... But being called a "cheater" for playing the game EXACTLY as it was desinged to be played, is RUDE, UNFAIR, and deserves an apology by you and Grant... My mid-level character was NOT exploiting the game, John. I received the mission, completed the mission, and chose to continue the hunt. Where did we exploit?

In regards to the combat system and the responses therein, I know my biggest problem is the inability to hit a moving target.

It's like shooting a running womp rat from a speeder at 50 meters, even up close. Granted tho I don't want them to just stand there and eat what I throw at them.

I know that when I run and do the HK or any of the droid factory instances with my guild, I always experience problems targeting and hitting even the regular HK-look-alike droids when they are on the move.

I know this is a loaded question, but I think the community deserves an answer.  I know this is one of the things I've been upset about for a while.

Yes it's a loaded question, but I'll answer it. I think people that believe they are paying for a beta quit. Am I happy with the state of the game? No way. Do I think it's entertaining for a lot of people? Yes, or we wouldn't have subscribers. Is it good enough? Not yet.. no.

So no, I don't think people are paying for a beta. Again, I'm sure by the very nature of the question that you'll disagree.. but there it is.

Smed

I would like to respectfully disagree with you.  I myself am one of these people.  I know of many others that feel this way too.  If you don't believe me, do a poll on it.

ok. Maybe you're right. I think what you're saying is "I'm a loyal customer that thinks the game isn't in shape to where I should be paying". Is it entertaining you?

Smed

Right now, no. Like many people I have a subscription that hasn't run out, and am holding on to the hope of some improvement. Read all the "I'm bored" posts to get an idea of how people are feeling. Many people were expecting an expansion to be announced in the near future. When they read today's post that no expansion is in the works, many people will not renew their subscriptions.

Fix the bugs. If you want an FPS style game, make the specials work. Offer some meaningful content with each publish. Fixes of existing issues are not enough of a carrot long term. Also, development plans along the lines of personal favorites are not the same as offering the content the community continually asks for.

Improving our communication is going to be a critical part of achieving this goal.  We recognize that our success is determined in large part by our ability to listen to players, ask for feedback, initiate research and stay true to the brand. We want your continued support.  Your input is critical to our process and we will continue to bounce ideas off the community, put new content on our Test Centers and probe for your ideas.  Together we can take this game to the next level of excitement.

This year, our commitment to you is to bring back the spirit of Star Wars with more focus on the “wars”, the characters, the adventures, and battles that hearken back to the movie adventures.  We have a lot of fun planned, a lot of quality improvement, and a lot of bug fixing – so get ready for an exciting year that will remind you of why you love SWG

We are almost thru the first quarter, and outside of 1 week the communication has actually been much much much worse then 2005 and there has been not even the slightest hint of the spirit of Star Wars returning.

I'm going to call you out on this - I'm going to say you are flat out incorrect on this. Our communication has been terrific. I can't say you neccessarily like what we've been saying, but I think our community people and our devs have been much more active than before. I never liked that system of correspondents before (they did a great job..don't get me wrong) but I prefer direct communication.

Smed

so just to reiterate...... when the servers go down AFTER they have come back up from a reset on an unannounced day, and we only learn WHY 2 hours AFTER they come back up again......this is the terrific communication we are to be thankful for?

Publish fixes being announced 2 hours after SOE installs them.....

Servers going down for hours and only after 1200 posts have been made does SOE post saying there is "an issue"

I am sorry, but I am calling you out sir..... you are flat out WRONG........

I will not pretend I know all of the instances you're talking about.. however if this is indeed happening (and I will look) then this would be an example of extremely poor communication. We usually tell people way in advance when we're doing publishes. That is the policy. Hotfixes are another story, but still noone should be surprised and the communication from the operations people here should be clear. If it hasn't, I apologize.

Smed

I am also one of those customers who would respectfully disagree with you.   In answer to your question "Is it entertaining me" the answer is NO.   I come here and post.  Lot more fun then current NGE game.  Or I play WoW etc.  During PreCU I palyed WoW just enough to get a feel for it then came back to PreCU SWG and stayed here.  Till the CU.  Started playing WoW more.  Then the NGE and my play of WoW went up and I restarted my play of EQ2.

I do want SWG to become big again so I continue to subscribe even though I could cancel and still post here because I also have a all station pass with my old EQ account.

On a side note I am one of many SWG players that would REALLY like to have our SWG accounts under all station pass but couldnt because of software bugs in the origional login and the transfer options offered by customer support are to delete either our EQ,EQ2 accounts or our SWG account and start over under the all stattion access

Last Thank you all for taking time to talk to us in this thread and to actually try and read and keep up with all the questions.

I have 10 accounts which have all been fully utilised, and all chars from these accounts are fully templated.

Since the NGE, I have been unsubscribing and resubscribing from time to time, and only activating one account. Before NGE, I had at least 8 accounts active all the time. I just don't find the game worthwhile paying $120-$150 per month, before CU it was, plus I've got 2 accounts which haven't gone anywhere yet, and 2 more new accounts not active, making a total of 14 accounts, and pre-CU or CU, I found it worthwile paying that much, and even more. Game isn't worth paying a single cent now, admitedly I'm having fun with just one account, but it just seems a waste having more active now, its really depressing.

SWG was my life, it was a total addiction, and the NGE kicked my habit

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're out of time, SOE The whole 2.5 months shouldn't have been. The game was fine up until Nov 15th. If the CU was worked on, instead of devoting time to the NGE (including the many months prior to November), the game could possibly be totally bug free by now.

My account cancels on 2nd Feb, which was a waste as only played game for 1 day to get the life day gifts, will be resubbing when creature handler, Bio-engineer, scout, and ranger return, oh and the FS village.

Ok... moving to fast to read everything... so I will just post my big three concerns and see if a response can be made

1) Is there any way to get a combat AND a non-combat skill on our characters? I have a back story for my main that goes back far before SWG. It is of a jedi/musician (ie. Tionne of the Jedi Academy novels). Allowing a combat AND a non-combat skill (entertainer/trader) would create diversityin our toons. It also would help return the number of traders and entertainers that have dissappeared.

2) Can we please get the old CA's and AA's converted to something useful under the new system. Even a temporary NPC that would evaluate the old ones and turn them into current stats would be great.

3) As a mayor of a major city I have a HUGE problem with the nerf to the Medium Naboo house footprint many months ago. This did not solve the problem because other types of houses can still be used to create 'walls'. Besides, there is no way to fill gaps left by these houses as no other house can fit in the space which drastically cuts the available building room in a city. Please return the footprint to it's original size and do not punish all the cities that did not use these as an exploit.

I still don't understand you folks and I mean the playerbase.  If you seriously thing that "Smed" and the Dev team really care about our opinions and suggestions then you need medical attention.  Quite simply put, Everything the players didn't want in game was placed in SWG, furthermore the polls clearly show that players don't want certain things added to the game and when you look at the pulblish plan  you will see that they will put them in anyway.

Face it folks, Smed is merely posting here to look good and make the image of a concerned rep. For those people bending over and pucking up to Smed are truly sad people.  I want to see results and true fixes not just posting and getting the folks high hopes up here and Smed if you think you folks have good subs, please look again at your servers.  Server population is not what it was back in Pre-CU and CU days. Admit you folks screwed up big time with the NGE and don't know where to go.  I feel your team cannot even handle the 9 so called Iconic professions.  I was a beta tester, I reported all my findings and posted tons of suggestions , when the game went to CU, I stuck to it and kept going and reported issues I saw.  Tiggs and I never saw eye to eye because I am a straight shooter , I don't jump on band wagons, I don't get down on my knees like other players here and worship the devs or the mods. I go by the quote "I don't impress easy" and I sure don't go around and kiss rear ends, I tell it like it is because I am paying to play this new "beta" called NGE.

I know you have seen, read and heard about all the Anti-NGE posts and stories, face the facts the only people that like the NGE are people whom couldn't cut a good complex and engaging game like SWG (yes SWG and NGE are in my opinion two separate games) but you should see that the majority of the community wanted the old system back because of that said complexity and diveristy. But now we have come to a point where we cannot go back without making classic servers, for this I simply say the game is truly broken and I have no idea what your Dev team is actually doing but I have a suggestion here, do what Star Wars.com do when you subscribe to the hyperspace section. Set up a webcam and let us see that your team is actually doing something and not just goofing off, this will make them truly work.  I personally don't care if they post on the forums or not, that means nothing to me, I want to see results in the game and see positive things come to the NGE. Until you do that and they do that and don't break more things than fix, I won't praise you or the team.

I am in no way cruel or mean, I simply want to see a game I beta tested and enjoyed become a game I enjoy again. Right now its just a fancy MMO Chat room with more kids running around it.

Good luck John , your going to need it.

We recognize that the current profession system doesn't allow for any real level of character differentiation.  As such, we're currently working on an "Expertise" system, that grants the players "points" to spend on specialization.   The expertise system gives the profession system a similar feel to what we had pre-nge as far as character customization goes.  The tech for this system is being developed for the next publish (this won't be visible to you guys).  The publish after that, we're looking at pushing out the first two professions's worth of expertise trees, with two professions targeted for every publish after that.  Generally speaking, we'll have three trees for each profession to choose from, including a GCW tree and a "path" tree that will hold things like "dark" and "light" side powers for Jedi, for instance (or droid specializtion, vs poisons for Bounty hunters - for instance).

That's the plan.

Cliffnotes for those new to this thread are as follows.....

Smeds a redbull junkie with sleep issues, and is trolling like mad - theres no roll-back - rumours are untrue - crafters may be getting some love - No expansion anytime soon (they ditched it after we cried too much) - if your a programmer for a swg emu then send Smed your cv - Smed called for back-up after community baffled him - back-up has arrived and is baffled at Smeds increased post count - everyones about 2 pages behind the convo......

Smed,

Please post your top 5 concerns from the player base.

Thunderhart has posted his, we would like to see if you understand what the main problems are in this game.

ok. Here are my top 5. Keep in mind, this doesn't mean this is the order things are being done.. just my personal ones and what I see being big issues with the community.

1. Crafting - I know crafters are pissed.. we're working on a system that I hope will be a good balance between the crafting centric system we had before and the loot drop system we have now. The truth is this needs to be balanced.

2. New quests for the mid-levels - there's not enough of them now. The team is cranking on it.

3. PvP - Not nearly enough of it - I don't like what we've done to faction bases. Personally I think this is a big part of what this game needs to be about. Then again, I'm personally a PvPer so that's a big deal to me.

4. Entertainers - I realize a lot of people don't like the idea of entertainers being in combat. To a lot of people this IS why they went into entertaining in the first place. I like where we're going with it and want to make sure it's balanced properly.

5. Higher end content - There's a lack of really interesting high-end content in the game. A lot of the vets have maxed out and we need to make sure there's still enough to do.

Smed

There's an understatement.  You realize the longer you leave the economy broken and players reliant on loot instead of crafters the harder it will be to fix, the more pushback you'll get from l33t d3wds who don't want to take 15 minutes from dueling to shop for a gun, and the more of your playerbase you'll lose.

Traders are the second most popular after Jedi  Do you really want to lose that big of a chunk of your customers?  Heck, I've almost gone back to UO because of the crappy way Crafters have been treated.

You guys need to aligh your priorities.  Enough Jedi love... fix crafting while there's still crafters willing to wait.

No decay + uber loot = /spit on crafters

Fix the economy and give crafters their $$$ worth... give us real revamp.

Remember... to Cancel you have to go to Register Expansion in the Launchpad.
