I know how you guys feel Holocron, I may not have to look after multiple servers serving a thousand users, but when my Exchange or File server go down, I can tell you theres nothing worse that users who are either ignorant or just don't care that you are not a god and can't fix everything within 5 mins. I for one will stand behind you and hope you guys don't have to stay up all night, I've done that myself. Good luck and God Speed.
I think we should all pitch in and buy the devs and other support staff some "I Survived SWG Launch Day" t-shirts.
Honestly, good job guys. I know how bad a bad day can get, and yours ranks right up there. Keep you heads up. For all those who complain, more appreciate.
All servers are still down, 'cept for starstrider. I have made a vow not to sleep until I at least make my avatar walk on his own. I picked this game up at 10 am EST, got registered at 10 PM EST (No joke, 12 hours) made a char and could not get past the saving char loading screen.

Master Lightsaber - Master Force Defense - Force Healing
That's the crux of it there Wynn, no disrespect but this is NOT Beta having lived thru 5 months or so of it myself. I find it a bit tough to swallow this "outage" after rushing this game to market against the pleas of most of us on the Beta boards.
Regardless of that, right or wrong it's launch day and after paying my money and forking over my credit card number I am now justified in voicing my displeasure over the situation.
I fully support the Devs and think they are doing a great job, my ire is more directed at the "powers that be" who made the desicion that this game was "ready enough" to go live.
Marcelleus - LM Jedi and crappy rebel pilot Camrux - MBH / MR / MM and also a crappy rebel pilot
I've been a part of a similiar roll out failure before... I worked for one of the largest data processing companies in the world, and on more than one occasion we had very similiar problems to the ones described in our first hours of subjecting the server to real world conditions (one particularly memorable event saw a major credit checking bureau go down for a couple of hours).
The load tools are nice, but they simply can't provide the data crunch that likely led to this in the first place. This (in my opinion) doesn't stem from a failure to plan, as in my experience it's something that is quite difficult to test without simply subjecting the servers to this exact sequence of data transactions, under this load. I'll leave it to you to decide whether that level of testing was possible...
Am I happy? No, not really. I am, however, tremendously empathetic.
Well, I have very few comments on the issues at hand: **bleep** happens, you can't always plan for all the possible **bleep** that CAN happen.
i for one am going to rest now. i will probably dream about playing the game, and i have enough knowledge of the look and feel for it, that ill probably convince myself in my dreams that i actually am playing.
and i hope that the problems will be ixed overnight, but i doubt that will happen.
jon
p.s. listen holo, all i ask is that the game is playable before july 28th, cuz im going to boot camp for the navy then, and G-d knows when ill get to play once i join the military
Well I as well am not sleeping until I hear some news, weather its servers are down for night or they will be up in 3 hours. I trust the devs, they did a great job in Beta and got things fixed, dont count on them heading to bed anytime soon
After reading pages and pages of rear end kissing, I find it funny that you only address the positive comments made. No attempt to even answer those that have put long posts up.
It completly baffles the mind on how you guys/gals can run EQ with no real problems. But SWG crashes hard on the first day. Sure, you guys are busy, and the servers are overloaded. But wasn't that the point to a limited release? I know some of the people are saying EQ was worse... I can tell you it wasn't. Atleast in EQ you could register and play the game within the first day.
This was by far the worst release of a MMO, IHMO. What irritates me the most is the way that SOE posts the messages for updates. With things like "due to unforseen traffic". You knew EXACTLY how many copies were out there. You knew how many people would be hitting the servers. Hell if you did the research you could have even known the time zones people would hit them. Lets face it, you know when UPS/Fed-ex drops.
Flame if you wish, I don't care. But, when it took me 7 hours to just MAKE the acct, then be able to play for about 20 mins. Only to log back in to a character (artisian) with no kits and surveys and back in the newbie area. Very disgusted.... Very Poor.
Woo
Whoa! Hold up a moment here. You're actually wrong about EQ. When EQ was released, it had such a high demand, that supposedly the entire internet was shut down in that part of California. If that isn't worse, I don't really know what is.
And if you think this was the worst release of an MMO, you obviously didn't play UO this past February when they released Age of Shadows. We couldn't log into the registration server for weeks, and the actual game itself was down for three days. And that game has been around for 6 years now, so it didn't have any excuses.
Tygress, Master Dancer, Starsider Galaxy
AFK Auto-Response: The Tygress system has become overloaded, and has been taken down for emergency maintenance. Please try again later. If Baribie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?
Today was really bad. I didn't expect things to go really smooth, first days aren't generally easy, but this whole day which I expected to play the game at least a small amount of time, is wasted. I expect more from this team. The thing that keeps me here is, of course an interest in the game, but the dev's,(especially Holocron), being very forthright and honest about what has been happening, what is happening, and what is likely to happen. They know it was bad, we know it was bad, and they dont lie to us about it. I don't think I've ever played another game where the developers had that respect for the community. Thanks, guys. Thank you for letting this day go as not charged against our accounts, also.
Thanks for giving us info and responding to posts. chin up guys, you're doin your best. Those of us in IT know and feel your pain. Murphy's Law right?
I'll be staring at server status bars for as long as my eyes will work.... I'll probably fall asleep at 10AM and sleep the whole REAL launch day away wish me luck. Oh scrw that i wish you guys the best of luck!
At least Ren & Stimpy returns tonight! That should keep me distracted for a bit.
Camrux, of course this is a beta. Do you really think this is a final product we are running on our PCs? I was in beta too, and this is just plain public Beta. No ifs, ands, or buts. Just acknowledge that this is not a real product, this is a beta, and deal with it. Why we agree to pay $50 for a beta is beyond me.. we're gluttons for punishment I guess.
