They're not going to no-build around the POI's (nor would we really want them to, and what about future POI's).
But they could easily make No-Ban No-Warn zones around the POI's without moving any existing cities.
If a city's radius engulfs a POI, that city can't /warn or /ban. Period.
i like this idea of a "safe zone" around POIs. They just neutered the militia and therefore player cities. There has to be a better way! More importantly, there has to be a why, and i would like to hear it? why hasn't a Dev posted on this yet? They could even have put something in the patch notes about why, and if this is permanent, or if they're just trying things out. i'm so scared! ^_^

That is a great idea. Funny thing is; the Devs couldn't come up with something similar so they just get rid of /citywarn altogether. Maybe 5% of the cities are using this exploit so the Devs decide to punish the other 95%. Why not just punish those few which the fix in the quoted above post would do?
I honestly don't think this game has an Ideas Team. You see they didn't need one since the game was based on stuff already known. They didn't have to come up with ideas like what should we call the planets and what should they look like. I wonder what races we should have. Everything in this game was laid out for them idea wise so I guess they probably don't even have an idea team.

being one that was griefed killed several times by this I can see why it's being removed, but it's a hasty fix that will take away more contact and options from the game that's so much needed already. A time limit of use on one person would be a better route by far.
whomever came up with the idea of making a safe zone around poi's... i appluad you.. instead of whining like most others are about this.. you actually came up with something useful.. maybe if we all did this the devs will have some new ideas to implement.
also.. maybe the devs are already thinking about this and are trying to implement it. cut the devs some slack for a few days.. good lord.. they shut down /citywarn to stop the poi city griefers and probably other reasons.. let them figure out a way to stop the griefers and they might put it back in. crying about it like spoiled 15 yr old brats wont get it back in.. ill gaurantee that.
funny thing is.. most of the people that are complaining are probably the ones using the grief tactics in the first place.. i didnt see anyone cry about the IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN of mission terminals when the mission terminal exploit was used to get millions of credits (i never saw.... oh lord... dont turn of missions.. how can i make my money for the day? whaaa whaaa whaa).. everyone took it well... trusting in the devs to do their jobs.. let them do it.
Jelios...tempest
untill the devs come out and say.... citywarn is permantenly gone from the game and will NEVER come back.. you wont see me throw a hissy fit (although thier lack of telling us anything is kind of dishearting). come up with solutions not whinning and maybe you will see the stuff you like about this game prosper.
Why do we all have to pay the price for the griefers?
SOE needs to grow some cajones and actually start suspending accounts and banning people from the game based on their conduct.
Griefers? Out.
Exploiters? Out.
Cheaters? Out.
Don't Dev-grief the legitimate players. Now I have to file a CSR ticket when someone is harassing my city's citizens? Maybe I'll get a response within a week, maybe I won't. I don't even use the ticket system anymore because their track record is total crap. And of course now, come to find out that they'd rather turn off the system that bothers them than fix it. This is the same sort of solution as turning off the offending servers when there's a bug.
You really don't understand what you're doing here and it's plain to see. You've cut off your nose to spite your face again. How often are we going to see you throw away workable systems and ideas in favor of the simplistic, boring, or just plain *wrong* solutions? You ruined the FS system and now you're screwing with the only system that allowed players to be self-policing?
Congratulations, another win for the griefing powergamer we all hated in every game we've ever played. They get a slap on the wrist (maybe) and we get castrated.
Give me a shadowed forest into which I might disappear. Give me a terrible foe and stack the odds against me. Give me friends and creatures with whom I can share my adventures, my losses and my gains. Let the gales blow and the world be torn asunder but don't make me stand alone against the tempest.
I believe that part, and probably not all, of the issue was that player cities could be used to block access to PvE and static content. By placing a city near a PoI one could use /citywarn to prevent other players from accessing that content which was a big source of grief.
Well then that is on the DEVS..not us...we didnt develop this rubbish, they did. Why should we suffer a fun and needed part of this game. Right I can see it know, St. Louis, New York, Detroit, New Orleans, Los Angeles....with NO law enforcement....BS!
Just cause the DEVS dont have the foresight to see the problem of People putting cities too close to PoI does not make it right for them to punish us for their lack of vision.

Because its being used as a widespread, horrible exploit to:
Prevent players (all types of players) from getting to cool, fun content in the game.
Its being used as a horrible grief tactic to just waylay and kill unsuspecting players. Even players who have _zero_ interest in conflict or PvP.
Remember that one of the main philosophies of this game is if you do not want to play PvP, you do not have to.
Put it back in,
Warn players that when they enter another Player city this may happen.....there's only a 500m radius...they can walk around it...show the radius on the global map to help players find ways around it.
Players shouldn't be able to walk into another town and nothing happen to them..He'll I can't walk into Compton, CA and not be scared to death.
Maybe a better command to put in would be a /citykick
The person would be instantly teleported outside city boundaries. They can walk back in, but you can just keep kicking them. It would annoy the person and after awhile the person that you don't want harassing people in town would leave just stop coming in to harass you.
Of course if nobody is around to kick somebody, then that person can walk through town.
/citywarn needs to be fixed, not removed. Make it unexploitable.
Removing citywarn makes it far too easy to grief in the other direction. City Militia and the mayor need to have some means of removing people from their city, or at least making it very uncomfortable for unwanted visitors.
One suggestion would be to have the timer stop counting down for as long as the warnee is moving away from the city hall. No one should be in danger of getting attacked if they are making a real effort to leave.
